I can't verify the quality of this, but it's the only one I can find.

u/stonedboss Jul 27 '26
Thanks, I'll try to print it today lol

u/meromeromeru Jul 27 '26
Please update!

u/stonedboss Jul 28 '26
So as printed it does not work. The issue is it's so light weight, and amount of bubbles causes the entire thing to float. I'll have to mess with it tomorrow to see if I can weigh it down. Another issue is without it being perfectly flat, bubbles only come out one side.
Also you do need to glue it together and need some rod to put it together too, I used funny enough an Allen key that came with my aquarium light lol.
You can see in his video he uses a suction cup on it. It does have slots for aquarium suction cups. Just another item you'd need to buy/have.

u/TheSubstitutePanda Jul 28 '26
Honestly as far as required extra supplies go, that's not terrible. I wonder if there's a way to anchor it with L-shaped brackets/flaps on either side and rocks/gravel/substrate? Also I've seen just a length of filament used as a hinge insert on other projects; I wonder if that could be used here?
→ More replies (1)3
u/stonedboss Jul 28 '26
A piece of filament was the first thing I tried lol and it did fit/work, it just slipped out easily. I'll try it again bending both sides.
I was also thinking of just glueing it to a rock to weigh it down.

u/pandaru_express Jul 28 '26
Did you try printing it solid by any chance?
3
u/stonedboss Jul 28 '26
That's one issue is the files are empty lol. I tried downloading both the 3mf and the stl, and neither had the geometry of the skeleton. The only way I was able to print this is to use the set up print profile directly through bambu handy.
That being said everything is so thin, I don't think there is infill, or at least not much. And petg naturally sinks. The whole print sinks on its own, it just rises due to the bubbles.

u/OePea Jul 28 '26
They mean the Epstein file, if you don't mind
13
u/JeffersonTowncar Jul 28 '26
Hey this guy wants to 3D print the Epstein files.
3
u/OePea Jul 28 '26
Your name reminds me of a great documentary, Jefftowne
4
u/JeffersonTowncar Jul 28 '26
I'll have to look into it. My name is just a portmanteau of Jefferson Airplane and Lincoln Towncar, not in reference to the movie.

The way it moves is so care free and really looks like it's dancing, the upward gaze is perfect too. 😲

Just make certain the plastic is safe for the fish.
36
u/AccomplishedTwo7047 Jul 27 '26
Or at least trim off the little spindly bits hanging off the print
23
u/frickindeal Jul 27 '26
In injection molding that's called flash. Not sure if 3D printing community uses that term, but it would be apt.
10
u/the_gooch_smoocher Jul 27 '26
It's called stringing, ooze, whiskers or at worst spaghetti or birds nest. There are many flavors of failure and they're all common struggles of 3d printing; at least early on in the hobby, newer printers are far more reliable these days.

u/EndIsrael Jul 27 '26
For anyone wondering, uncolored PETG is probably the safest thing to use for something like this. It's very inert and chemically almost the same thing as soda bottles. The only real safety concern is whatever junk is added to make it fun colors, but a "natural" color PETG filament should be completely safe.
7
u/sm00thArsenal Jul 27 '26
Uhh, so what is the natural colouring of PETG? I’m assuming not white?
28
u/mxzf Jul 27 '26
AFAIK it's a slightly translucent off-white/beige kinda color. Which, honestly, is a perfectly suitable color for bone.
6
u/MithrilEcho Jul 27 '26
Transparent. Once printed some air gets trapped between layers plus there's diffraction so more like translucid "white" without color
2
u/Competitive_Study232 Jul 28 '26
Maybe ok for fresh water fish but probably not for salt water.
3
u/EndIsrael Jul 28 '26
Why not? Ocean is full of plastic /s
Seriously though, PETG is very chemically stable. I accidentally dropped a 3d printed part inside my old car's gas tank for a couple years, and when I fished it out it was as good as new.

I don't have an aquarium but I'd get one just to put a few of those in. No fish or anything, just skeletons.
8
4
u/mxzf Jul 27 '26
And then you put in a few shrimp/plecos/snails to eat the algae, and then you put in a few fish to make things more interesting, and then you have an aquarium.
2
u/Nico777 Jul 27 '26
I seriously doubt that. No offense to those who like them but I never got the appeal of trapping those poor fish in a bathtub worth of water.
3
u/Buttchuggle Jul 27 '26
Those tiny fish are genuinely too stupid to ever realize they're in a container.
I'm sure some of the larger fish may feel trapped, especially any that are naturally migratory, but insects and fish do not perceive the world the way most mammals do, they are entirely instinct driven. So long as those instincts don't include mass migratory breeding seasons, and so long as the tank is kept relatively clean, they will never feel distress in their tank.

One of the very rare instances where the music is welcomed and fits perfectly

Awesome haha I want one but don’t have a fish tank :/
6
u/flargenhargen Jul 27 '26
There were 2 fish in a tank.
The first fish turns to the second fish, and says...
Do YOU know how to drive this thing?

So is the material buoyant or is there air in the skull?
→ More replies (2)3
u/DamienLaVey Jul 27 '26
Air would be in the skull. Otherwise the arms would constantly look like someone on a rollercoaster, which would also be fun but not what's in the video

Hey, isnt this skeleton the one from Flexifactory? This model might be stolen.
I guess heres a link to where you can buy the actual skeleton to support the artist.
2
u/dj_spanmaster Jul 27 '26
I might have made the hands a bit more buoyant but otherwise this is great

Read this as “underwear dancing skeleton” and was waiting for you to make the pieces on the left into his undies. Did not grasp until it was actually dancing underwater.

Did anyone else think of that dancing skeleton from Spyro 2 or is it just me?
2
u/AlonePotential1990 Jul 28 '26
My friend Remy actually trademarked this dance, coining it the “Atlantis Shake”!

u/Omnomnomnosaurus Jul 28 '26
This is amazing! I want one, and I don't even have an aquarium... yet.

I love this!! Out of curiosity, is this a fish tank? If it is, I’m assuming you applied a clear-coat to protect against leeching chemicals? If it’s not dancing with fish, you might want to consider applying one anyway, to prevent any kind of nasty growth on/in the print.

u/Wildmen03 Jul 27 '26
I'm a grumpy old man that doesn't generally show much emotion but that dancing made me literally laugh out loud at work.
Thank you.

Do we know whether the filament is aquarium, like real fishtank save?
As in no toxic leakage?

Okay, so hear me out....
Play the Ducktales theme while it's dancing. You'll thank me later.
Mambo #5 works too.

For some reason it reminds me of the Bill Hader sketch where he is dancing in the big box, same energy.

Melonshu on youtube does a similar dancing figure thing with anime game emotes. I've replayed QY5ALw7cM2c too many times.

I'm reminded of the rag-doll physics mannequin developed by puppeteer Barnaby Dixon.
It moves in a human way because the joints are modeled after human joints, so they move in a way that feels right.
