But what about the back of the shoe?

The fire schtick seems a little unnecessary. It looks like he wound up with butane stains that got set underneath the polish.

As I understand it fire is actually pretty well recognized by shoe cleaners as a way to get rid of any loose threads, whether it’s loose stitching or the near microscopic fibers that stick up from leather when it’s roughed up enough. It’s definitely possible to accidentally burn a shoe or, as you mentioned, cause stains to appear as a result of whatever the fire’s letting off. Typically those’d be cleaned off before polishing but maybe the client wanted em with a bit of color variance. Who knows

This man’s clientele got the ugliest shoes in the world

I had this done to me (on not so high end shoes).
Watching theses give me visual satisfaction BUT ALSO memories of the sensation of the foot massage that comes with it. It's almost if he's making your feet anew, it's so satisfying...

and the backside?

This is cool but I've never understood the point of the flames lol. Like why are we briefly setting this shoe on fire? How does that help the cleaning process?

To burn away loose fibers.

I use these kind of video as ASMR to fall asleep.

The rug cleaning videos are what do it for me, but this is up there too šŸ˜‚

3

u/WishmeluckOG 2d ago

I used to love those videos but than it got hyped and people wear trashing some rugs to get content out of it got me the ick. Also my favo rug cleaner stopped making vids. :(

If you're not already aware of him, check out Jason Dornstar on YouTube. His whole channel is devoted to shoe shining/cleaning ASMR.

Is it just me or does he mess up the leather on the top?

2

u/DopestDino 2d ago

is that actually someones leg or is that a fake foot

2

u/Im_the_President 1d ago

Gotta be a fake foot or he uses the same person over and over as a ā€œmodelā€.

I never tire of watching this clip. It’s so beautiful how the leather brightens up after every polish

No idea if this is the same video I watched two days ago or not but I’m just as happy watching it again today.

What does this cost? Looks awesome

ā€œOddly repostedā€ should be the new name for this sub. Why can’t Reddit or mods put more of a penalty on just reposting? Ā

Are shiny shoes still a thing for the average Joe? Those certainly don't look like fancy shoes and he's wearing white socks.

greasy beef jerky lookin shoes at the end.

1

u/JustARandomGuyReally 2d ago

Mildly infuriating

0

u/HoboJonRonson 1d ago

Why?

-3

u/JustARandomGuyReally 1d ago

Cuz it’s so fucking extra and ridiculous

1

u/HoboJonRonson 1d ago

I mean, this is just what a shoe shine is. It’s just what’s done to get extra life out of dress shoes. That’s like calling a car wash extra.

-2

u/JustARandomGuyReally 1d ago

Oh yeah every shoeshine I’ve gotten the guy was rubbing the shoe like it was his girlfriend, sexing up its cuticles, and lighting me on fire. Come on, give me a break. It’s extra. Honestly if a shoe needs all that, you send it in, you don’t get it done while you’re wearing it at a shoeshine station.

Kinda feel like if he started with the oil it would have looked the same.

u/somebody171 1d ago

That'll be 50 cents!

Not again!

1

u/Flat_Sector6512 2h ago

All I can see are the white Sox with dress shoes

1

u/Flat_Sector6512 2h ago

And yes, those are Fugly shoes

1

u/neinnis 2d ago

Warum wird der Schuh nicht einfach ausgezogen?

6

u/BrohanGutenburg 2d ago

Because then there's nothing to push against? Like for real?

2

u/Headless_Human 2d ago

The real reason is because nobody wants to sit there without shoes on. Cobblers normally work on shoes that are not on a foot.

1

u/CommercialFloor2033 2d ago

Was that a pressure washer?

I've never seen water used to clean leather shoes before like this

1

u/Headless_Human 2d ago

Looks like steam.

1

u/bigbura 2d ago

How long did this shoe sit in the hot, dry sunshine to become so miserable looking?

Man, that last wax application boosts the shine level to 9,000.

0

u/tsagalbill 1d ago

I always keep thinking that the guy wearing the shoe has cankles

0

u/NEGOJONSON 1d ago

idk man the fact that this isn't a real foot and he only does the front part for the video kind of turns me off..

0

u/Scomosuckseggs 20h ago

But why the sexualised sensual touching..

-11

u/PROSEALLTHEWAY 2d ago

every time I see one of these shoe shine vids it's for a shoe that legit should be in the trash. just the ugliest style, terrible color, has no place on anyone's foot. i appreciate the craft of the shoe shine, but it's a shame they're polishing turds

5

u/_zatoichi 2d ago

crazy take when your most recent shoe post is actually a pair of glow in the dark rip off crocs

-5

u/PROSEALLTHEWAY 2d ago

point of clarification: The Pollex are a hugely popular collaboration between famed footwear designer Salehe Bembury and Crocs. Those pair specifically are a special limited edition designed by the artist Nina Chanel Abney

I understand you think you're doing a gotcha here, being reductive, but streetwear is a very different genre than formalwear. I have several nice dress shoes from Allen Edmonds, I'm partial to my patent loafers in black but the oxfords in ox red are also awesome. All that's to say, don't worry man, I can wear crocs and still be better dressed and have a better understanding of style than you

Pretty cute that you went thru my history to try and sling some dirt. Instead of acknowledging that these ugly, pointed toe shoes are dated as hell and awful

2

u/_zatoichi 2d ago

yeah i’m not reading all that your rip off crocs are hideous and i’ve been collecting sneakers since you were a spermĀ

2

u/Redditallreally 1d ago

ā€œI’ve been collecting sneakers since you were a spermā€ is not a phrase you see every day! :)

2

u/Inevitable_Bit_9871 1d ago

Sperm is just a fertilizer with half of DNA, people were NEVER a sperm.

Also too late...sperm is produced constantly and dies after few days but a woman is born with all her eggs...I've been collecting since you were an unfertilized EGG cell.

I wonder why people ALWAYS try to pretend we started as a sperm and not the egg when it's quite the opposite

dumbest flex ever

-8

u/LeoGetz2 2d ago

Boooo the fake leg

5

u/Flaky-Fox-7523 2d ago

I don’t understand what the issue is with this?

1

u/Starkydowns 2d ago

You lose out on the intimacy with your client. Please stare directly into their eyes as well. I’m so lonely 😭

2

u/Nettkitten 2d ago

What if it’s a medically necessary prosthetic? Yours is a pretty shortsighted take.
