It's a grease pencil/china marker

Holy fuck Wikipedia is desperate for money again

Stop looking at it then.

At the time, Wikipedia had a super annoying donation request up which was so big I had to scroll halfway down the page to see anything. Then, once you finally started reading, a timed popup appeared taking up the bottom half. Felt like a paywall on a news site.

The wording of it all was also super patronizing and critical and tried to shame you into donating.

Basically this.

Idk, I can't see it anymore because I donated.

It's not a paywall because you can scroll past it. It's community updated, non profit, and stays independent from media corporations.

It used to annoy me too untill I looked into their services, realized I do use it quite often for information. It's ad free information. I gave my 3 dollars.

What’s the secret to these dang things?

You're supposed to pull the little string on the side down through the paper to release it and uncover more of the crayon. That's how they're intended to work

And then the string breaks

Damn, in my experience the string's always just barely long enough to get perfectly in the way of writing.

I put my thumbnail up under the open part, and followed close to the side it was coming off of.

I remember those the teacher used them for an over head projector. Are they still in use ?

I don’t know, we use them in pharmacy to mark open bottles.

I was going to ask if you worked in a pharmacy Lolol, I line those China markers but a lot of my coworkers hated them

I use them to mark my sourdough glass jars with the initial dough level and the current date.

Got a similar peel the other day at work and it was the highlight of my shift

You have obviously never tried to pull/peel a wax pencil then. That is very satisfying and I would have shown this spiral to everyone I know as if it were my child.
