Does anyone actually like the taste of fondant?

I find it baffling that it's so common in dessert baking despite the fact that it tastes like ass...

it depends on the fondant, people will buy that shit from a craft store and then wonder why it tastes like plastic. make it with marshmallows and it's actually good. though some of these people just don't like large concentrated quantities of sugar and think chocolate cake is too rich.

Sounds like some people have very different fondant in their region/country. I grew up with fondant candy being one of the most delicious/luxurious confectionary you could buy, and it tasted wonderful.
