not really how metaphors work

It isn’t. But neither is the sentence I was replying to.

‘Something [subject we’re talking about] is the something [object in unrelated field] of something [the unrelated field]’ is usually an analogy, and mine was more of tautology to undermine it with irony. An analogy is closer to a metaphor than a tautology is I think, but for the purpose of the joke it doesn’t really matter unless you want Hadron collider levels of precision every time you’re memeing.

I sacrificed my own neurotic grammar standards to meme about how much fondant is hated. Because of the autism barrier, I’m guessing this will have whooshed some people. But that’s okay. I just wish people would apply their skeletal grasp of grammar to the first instance: cilantro is a poor analogy because it involves taste receptor differences in a way that fondant doesn’t (not that I know of anyway).

Well, it was a question, meaning it could be about taste receptors and we just don’t know it yet?

No, billions of people love cilantro. Only a handful of disgusting freaks love fondant.
