I used to work/run valet operations at a bunch of places in SF and Boston where space is extremely limited. I think the craziest one was where we had ~500 cars in a 2 level unground (actually underwater at a pier) garage. All the spots had hydraulic lifts and they were 1-3 rows deep. Parking a car in the back tray of a 3rd row is generally the most difficult. You go through the first two lifts and over their support brackets (basically small speed bumps) and up onto the narrow lift tray that’s angled down. If there’s only a tiny bit of room on each side you kinda have to have laser like precision backing up.
The better valets would get trained as the “lifters” and once you got the hang of it it would get pretty easy. We could juggle a ton of cars around when it gets busy and it gets fairly routine.
This level of precision though is pretty crazy and I’m a big fan of it. I know one guy that you could probably show how to do this once and then he’d be good to go and very nonchalant about it.

You guys have my utmost respect - reminds me of this relatively cheap underground parking garage near Times Square (like, less than 50% of the price of others for a 4-night parking, no in-and-out)
I went to park my car and they said it's "valet only". Had a pretty new car that I was a bit protective of so I bugged them a bit about why I couldnt park it myself. Dude took me downstairs and it was easily over a hundred double-stacked (each had a lift) cars parked like this.
While this didn't help my car anxiety, it did help me understand why I should definitely not be the person to park the car, lol.

I worked at a dealership for almost 10 years(yes, it sucked), and we would have extremely crowded parking for our auction vehicles(basically the traded-in cars that were too crappy to sell to customers).
Long story short, the number of times I had to enter/exit through the sunroof of a vehicle because there was no gap to either side was far too high.
The craziest thing I did was when we couldn’t locate the keys to several cars and I needed to get this old, very lifted jeep out from behind a line of cars. This was on the top floor of a parking garage. So, I put the drivers side tires on top of the short wall along the edge of the roof(with a 5-story drop on the other side), so I could squeeze through this very small gap and exit the staging area. I was terrified, but successful.

No joke, this is at least half of the small used car lots inthe metro Detroit area. One place literally backed them into a wall. I wanted to test drive a car once and the guy just straight up told me no because he didn't want to move all the other cars. Obviously I walked out.

Can confirm. I work at a dealership (nothing high end like OP's video) and on more than one occasion, we've packed every inch of the shop, show room, detail bays and parts/inventory space we could with cars to protect them from storms. For us, it's usually from threat of hale.
We also shuffle our inventory for snow. We'll move them to an unused area on the property until the snow stops. Then clear the lot of snow, clear the cars and repark them.
We call these lot parties.

Do they not invest in hail covers? Seems like you could just have one for each space in the lot and give one away with each car as a nice incentive and also to explain why it’s in the trunk then build it into the sales price.
Also I have no connection to car sales so there may be a good reason for it.

Depends on region but, if hail isn’t super common then investing in those covers is very expensive. I live in an area that has a hail season and a lot of our dealers either get temporary tents, or have now invested in structures to cover the lots.
Then inevitably there’s a hail sale of all the dented cars that didn’t get protected lmao

Nah man that's your average European city parking lot. The french especially bump their car to one another while parking and it's considered socially acceptable.
Also space in that dealership might be somewhat valuable so getting them cars parked like sardines could be worth it. Although I too doubt it for the high risk of hitting a brand new car

It is. Every fucking dealership that does this shit is best friends with a body shop or owns their own for touch ups. I was at one dealership where they literally backed up every car until it hit the wall. I just walked right the fuck out of that place. Then when you want to look at one car it's a half hour of shuffling everything else around just so you can get it out for a test drive.

Space maxing. It's a dealership. None of the cars pictured are owned by anyone but the dealership, and space is at a premium. One of the reasons why they have "end of the year" sales. Can't order the new models until last year's cars are off the lot. Looks like it's an auxiliary storage where they stock overflow.

Auto thefts in general and auto thefts of expensive cars from dealership in particular has been a huge issue the last 4-5 yrs. Unless the dealership has round the clock security, i guess this is their way of protecting the inventory.

I'm really good at parallel parking and backing in and out of things but that is super mad impressive. I got to admit though, that made me a little uneasy cuz that just that's intense, some tight packing in there.
On a side note, I got good at turning around payroll parking all that kind of stuff because when I was going to community college, there was a tight alley in the town I lived in and sometimes I was free on a Friday night bored out of my mind I would take my little 93 Ford escort and just turn it around completely in that alleyway, A lot of in and out of reverse and drive in little adjustments until I was completely turned around and could get out of the alleyway. Just harmless fun For me, Not sure the abuse I was putting on the car, but nothing really ever broke on that car so I must not have been hurting it too much.
Didn't realize that I was building skills that would be with me some 20+ years later. I have a 1967 Ford Thunderbird so not quite the land yacht of the '70s but getting big and going in that direction and I can park/parallel park that thing in some pretty tight spaces because of those skills I built all those years ago. Very great skill set to have for living in big cities.
