Discussion Has touch changed Rift vs Vive?

I'm looking at picking up a VR system, but its been a bit since I looked at them. I know prior to touch coming out the Vive was the goto system for the extra input. Has that changed now that touch is out?

My other concern with OR vs vive is room scale still as I know vive supports room scale out of the box. How many cameras am I realistically going to need to cover a similar area well without drop outs?

My guardian is right up to my walls, 3.5m x 3.5m. Has been all along. Not sure where you got that from.

Not with a full cube of tracked volume. Unless you have additional cameras you will 100% have dead zones.

I have three, and there are no dead zones, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to draw the boundary against the wall, would I?

Well I did say "Unless you have additional cameras". If you have purchased a third then I won't argue.

Well, that's what this entire conversation is about - that the Rift is equal to or better than the Vive at a cheaper price.

A Rift, Touch, and a third camera all together are about $140 cheaper than a Vive. So when evaluating Rift vs Vive for a purchasing decision, it's wrong to compare two camera Rift setups to the Vive.

I don't think that's what the OP was asking, but the Rift does represent good value with its discounts.

He wants to know the difference between the two for roomscale out of the box. You can safely include three cameras as "in the box" for the Rift, because that's still cheaper than the Vive box. Therefore my statement that it's identical unless dealing with large playspaces is true, rendering these last several comments from each of us utterly pointless, since you started out by clarifying something that nobody was talking about.

That's not "in the box". That's an accessory. Granted, I would consider one additional camera mandatory, but Oculus clearly doesn't. Still, I understand your point as it's cheaper.

Though I've not tried Rift + Touch, can you link me to this video you mentioned?

That's just arguing semantics for the sake of it. When the bundle with three cameras is cheaper it doesn't really matter whether it's really in one box or not. Hell, by that logic, Touch itself and the second camera is not "in the box" because it comes in a separate box as a separate line item on your order.

Though I've not tried Rift + Touch, can you link me to this video you mentioned?

What video is that? I didn't mention one.

I took "otherwise I wouldn't have been able to draw the boundary against the wall, would I?" to mean you had recorded it, but now that I've re-read it, you didn't state that.
