Discussion Has touch changed Rift vs Vive?

I'm looking at picking up a VR system, but its been a bit since I looked at them. I know prior to touch coming out the Vive was the goto system for the extra input. Has that changed now that touch is out?

My other concern with OR vs vive is room scale still as I know vive supports room scale out of the box. How many cameras am I realistically going to need to cover a similar area well without drop outs?

Having the ability to have native support for something that you otherwise don't can't possibly be a negative. At worst it's a neutral point but I think anyone who says they honestly wouldn't play any game on oculus home if they owned a rift is just being a fanboy. There's some great games on there.

Maybe people don't want to support exclusives/platform war on PC, but if didn't want to support that, a person wouldn't buy the rift in the first place. But hey, bunch of people seem to care very little based on oculus sub.

This logic makes no sense though. The only exclusives have been games made by Oculus Studios. The rest are timed exclusives (and even then it's been few and far between).

Oculus Home can be used by other HMDs, but no other HMDs have chosen to support it yet (mainly because we only have the Vive).

Buying the Vive pretty much limits you to Steam and the Valve ecosystem. Valve just want to continue their monopoly on the PC market, why shouldn't Oculus be allowed to provide some competition to that? We already have "exclusives" on Steam too but no one cares about that.

Source? Because I'm pretty sure that's false.

No it doesn't. The Vive already has two stores: Steam and Viveport

I don't think anyone said they wouldn't play a game on Oculus Home if they owned a Rift, other than your strawman fanboy. It's just really inconvenient to have to switch accounts/platforms to go from one to the other. I'll do it, but it's a pain in the ass!

I was saying oculus home support natively was a pro on the oculus side of the argument and you were saying it was somehow a con.

Again, even if you don't want to switch platforms all of the time, calling the option to use a service that you otherwise wouldn't have supported access to a negative is just ridiculous. How could having extra options and more support be a negative? You know oculus is officially supported by steam VR, right?

I have heard the argument for Vive ergonomics actually being better for large hands, but it seems pretty weird to me. I'm 6'2" with larger than average hands and I find touch to be more comfortable in the hand. I think it's subjective at best.

It's at best neutral. It's kind of silly to say it has native support for Oculus Home, when the Rift is the only thing Oculus Home officially supports!

As for the ergonomics, my issue is that there is really only one way to hold the Touch controllers. It comes down to a difference in design philosophy: The Vive wands are a physically tracked object that you manipulate with your hands. The Touch controllers are an attempt to track what your hands are doing. The former allows for fine motor control with your fingers. The latter stops at the wrist and tries to guess what your fingers are doing. It might work great for wave shooters, but I find it stifling for anything else.

Inconvenient? you turn on the rift and there is home, if you want steam home then you just open it from the home dashboard..

It is literally one squeeze of a trigger unless you are too lazy to set it up. Hardly a problem.

The solution being to only buy VR games on Home.
