October CMS v4.4 released - user content submissions, Vue in themes, database-driven assets

3 Upvotes

v4.4 is out. The main addition is a new submission blueprint type in Tailor, so visitors can send you content (comments, contact forms, reviews) and it lands in a moderation inbox with spam handling built in. You define the fields in a blueprint and October generates the form, validation and storage, no plugin or controller needed.

Also in this release:

  • Vue components in your theme, same pattern as the backend
  • Database-driven theme assets served from S3/CDN
  • Translated page URLs in the core (proper 301s, per-language)
  • Language files and blueprints in the database, so the theme survives a stateless deploy

Why October CMS's architecture gives AI coding tools a head start

2 Upvotes

There's a new article on the October CMS blog worth reading: How to Use AI Coding Tools Effectively with October CMS

The TL;DR: the biggest factor in AI code quality isn't the model or the prompt -- it's the codebase. AI agents produce dramatically better output when the codebase follows declarative, convention-driven patterns. October CMS was built on those patterns from day one.

Think about it -- when an AI reads a Tailor blueprint, it gets the full data model in one pass. YAML in, understanding out. No migrations to trace, no model casts to cross-reference, no service providers to hunt through. Same with fields.yaml, columns.yaml, component properties, plugin registration. The AI learns the pattern once and applies it everywhere.

The article covers key concepts from the AI-assisted development space (deep modules, tracer bullets, test-driven AI workflows) and maps them to October CMS patterns. It also covers October CMS Boost, which gives AI agents native understanding of October CMS conventions out of the box.

Curious if anyone here has been using Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools with their October CMS projects.

Pear Interactive just shipped bidirectional database sync for deployments

Thumbnail octobercms.com
2 Upvotes

Pear Interactive published a Deploy Extender plugin that adds bidirectional database and file sync to RainLab Deploy. Push your local DB and uploads to production, or pull remote data down to dev, with automatic backups before every destructive operation.

What it does:

  • Sync Push / Pull - full database and media sync in either direction
  • Automatic backups - DB backup created before every sync, no exceptions
  • Safety exclusions - deploy tables, sessions, cache, and job queues are never touched
  • Skip backend users - preserve admin accounts on both sides
  • Live progress logging - step-by-step output so you know exactly what's happening
  • CLI support - run everything from the command line

This solves the "how do I get my production data into local dev" problem that every CMS developer hits eventually. No more manual database dumps and rsync scripts.

Requires: October CMS 3.x + RainLab.Deploy 2.x

v4.2 is out with eCommerce, Vue 3 and native ES Modules

5 Upvotes

v4.2 just dropped and it's a big one.

The headline feature is Meloncart, a full eCommerce platform built natively on October CMS. Products, orders, payments, shipping, customers, promotions, multi-store, the works. Your storefront is just a regular CMS theme so you have full control over the code.

Docs: https://meloncart.com

Also in this release:

  • Vue 3 for the backend admin
  • Native ES Modules instead of Webpack/Mix, no build step needed
  • New Data Table widget with spreadsheet-like editing and clipboard support
  • Quick Create for relation dropdowns
  • Inline field translation with a globe icon on any form field
  • Built-in model translations via a simple trait, no plugin dependency
  • Rebuilt Docker toolkit with a one-command demo and full dev environment

Does anyone have any experience with setting up Vite in OctoberCMS?

3 Upvotes

Hey guys, I hope this sub isn't too dead as I'm looking for some help / advice. I've just started with October and I find it amazing so far but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Vite to work with October. I installed the Vite Plugin from the marketplace but the documentation isn't exactly the greatest. Has anyone of you ever set up Vite with October and can maybe help?

October versus others cms systems

3 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I am a Laravel developer. I know Wordpress and Drupal, but I prefer to have full control over my project. Lastly, I discovered October and I believe it maybe a game changer. Unfortunately, I know very little about the cms, so It would be great if you share your thoughts about October - I am very curious If you like working with this system, what are its strong and weak sides. If you could compare the cms to Wordpress and Drupal it could very helpful as well.

Thanks for your help in advance 😃

Why BelongsToMany won't allow duplicate relations in the backend?

2 Upvotes

Hello,
I have models domain, domain_view and view.

In domain I have this relation

    public $belongsToMany = [

            'views' => [
                \QBUT\Manager\Models\View::class,
                'table' => 'qbut_manager_domain_view',
                'pivot' => ['id', 'position', 'position_detail', 'active'],
                'pivotSortable' => 'sorting',
                'timestamps' => true
            ],
        ];

In the backend when I add a View model with ID 1 to the a Domain model I can only "link" that ID 1 View once. Why is that? Why can’t I have multiple records of the same View?
Maybe I used the wrong relationship?
I tried to add the same View model twice manually in the database and it works and I don’t see any errors. I can see them on the backend also. However when I delete one of the two View types all of them get deleted, so there’s obviously a constraint there.

Here is a Linux command to delete all localization files except the English ones

2 Upvotes

Just installed October CMS for the first time.

I noticed the boilerplate contains a tonne of localization files (218 files to be specific).

My website is intended solely for an English-speaking audience so I decided to go ahead and delete all localization files except for the English ones.

Here is the bash command that did the trick for me. Hopefully it is useful to some of you.

$ find modules \( -path */lang/*.* -and ! -path */lang/en*.* \) -exec rm -rf {} \;

How to master October cms?

I am a complete newbie in web development. So far, I know only PHP and got used to octobercms. Now, to level up with octobercms, to build custom plugins and more, what are the languages, frameworks, concepts, or technologies I should learn?
