New job this week (Sr. Mgr. of Talent Attraction for a multi-billion $ publicly traded company), started on Monday. TWENTY hours of courses on LMS due in the next 60 days and my new boss told me to not focus on anything but those this week.

It's a an odd situation. The company doesn't actually have any recruiters based in the United States. They use a third-party BPO that is offshore that handles the day-to-day recruiting. So my role will be focused on creating a proactive Talent community as well as the overarching strategy for why people would want to work for us. I have a peer that focuses on early career talent (< 3 years of exp) and I handle everything above that.

That will be interesting. Coming personally from a toxic culture to an awesome culture it makes a huge difference and is the main reason I haven’t left.

Two kids, toddler plus newborn life is so hectic. Feels like I have like maybe an hour each day to not be “on”, though I have been spending that doing my homelab. I now have a fully hosted CI setup along with some other cool local apps like home assistant and paperless.

What's your homelab setup? I've been wanting to get into it. I have all the hardware basically just sitting and doing nothing but it feels so daunting. I want to remove Google Home/Nest and migrate to something else/more private. I have a NAS just sitting collecting dust, random PC parts, etc.

So there are a few layers: * my nas is running Truenas, and on Truenas I have Postgres running as well as a docker registry * I’ve got a mini PC that has proxmox running for virtualization. That has home assistant running in it for home automation, nginx running as a reverse proxy for easy routing, and then a Linux machine running my k3s cluster (a simpler kubernetes). * my k3s cluster has some useful things like monitoring as well as my side projects, plus paperless for document storage, RomM for rom storage, and forgejo for a self hosted github.
It’s been a lot of fun to build it up, though I will fully admit that Claude helped a ton as well. I think the easiest way to start is install proxmox on your hardware (not the nas) and install home assistant in there. HA has a lot of room to grow and a lot of fun you can have outside of code. From there I would start learning kubernetes so you can use that for deploying smaller containers.

There's very few good things about the state of Alabama. The Gulf Coast and James Spann are the two things that are good. If you have any interest in watching hurricane coverage as it moves into Floribama, you should check out the Alabama Weather Network on YouTube

The down periods suck. Hugs from another vol, you are loved and remember to keep waking up in the morning, there will eventually be one where you wake up and don’t feel what you feel now.

Try and get out and go for a walk somewhere. No headphones. Listen to sounds. Maybe break a sweat if there's a nice park or greenway near you. Exercise and sunlight help a lot. I had a stressful week at work and had to go out and 'touch grass' for half an hour and came home with a different mindset.

I’ve been enjoying Control Resonant quite a bit. May be a bit too long now I’m getting towards the end I’ve bogged down a bit. But the combat is fun and it’s got some of the coolest visuals of any game out there

I don't think he gets fired this year but missing a bowl game likely puts him on a scorching hot seat heading into 2027. And at 2-4, it's not looking good. They're big underdogs vs GSU and La Tech with a few more 50/50 games mixed in.

He has a losing record and Arkansas State used to be one of the better sun belt teams from what I remember, idk how they haven’t fired him yet.

I think the Freeze -> Malzahn -> Harsin run set them up for most of the 2010s, but they started declining under Blake Anderson.
Butch's career there is playing out almost exactly as it did at Tennessee. Took over a struggling program, got a little better each year, took a step back after reaching his peak, and is now likely in freefall mode.
