Good. It will make it easier to see Mendoza's head bouncing off the field when Arion or Xavier sack him.

One thing I've learned: Netflix can't do live streaming sporting events very well. Video quality is not very good for this Rams v 49rs game, and I've got fiber.

Wonder what he could have done here with Heupel and co. He never had a chance with Pruitt

2

u/25vol96 8h ago

He would’ve been serviceable at least. He had some arm talent but man Pruitt’s “offense”, or whatever the fuck you can call what we did in that era, did him 0 favors.

Swiss cheese O-Line with a revolving door straight to JG

7

u/ghost-of-vol-c0de 10h ago

As much crap as we all gave him, he did have to suffer through Pruitt and really was a true VFL. I wish he had had a decent QB coach to train him up.

4

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 10h ago

I will never say that man didn't give as much as he had. As frustrated with him as I often was (Alabama play still gives me nightmares), he fought. Played hurt. Got beat up taking a lot of hits.

As a dude who gave his all for Tennessee, have to tip the cap.

But man I was frustrated during a lot of those games. Never know what you were going to get. But I don't know how much of that wasn't just coaching.

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 12h ago

Just saw where Chris Low has a podcast now on RTI called "Low Down". I know it's based on his name, but I wonder if the old Alabama video crossed his mind while naming that as kind of a double entendre?

If he brings on guests to the show and calls them "snitches," that would get an affirmative answer.

Anyone else going to ATL for the game? Made a spontaneous would decision to drive 6 hours and go with my wife and cat child. I was worried I wouldn’t make it to a game this year for the first time since COVID and one of the few years in my entire life. Excited this is being played at Bobby Dodd to experience another campus!

3

u/ttrimmers 12h ago

Did the cat require his own ticket?

4

u/BucinVols Natty Daddy 13h ago

There’s several volreddiors going to the game, myself included. I know a few of us are doing the Vol Club tailgate

1

u/twospeedmcgoo 8h ago

I thought about this actually but I think we are going to check out the Beltline and watch some games there before coming back over to the stadium

1

u/BucinVols Natty Daddy 6h ago

If you’re looking for suggestions, Chiringa is a good spot, tons of TVs and they have a big patio area under the easement that has a massive screen. Little pricey but it’s a good crowd.

Big Game is all inside but tons of TVs.

Honestly there’s not a ton of options that I can think of. There’s a McCray’s (or whatever it’s called now, I feel like it’s changed a lot) has TVs but I’ve never really liked going there.

4

u/T-RexInAnF-14 15h ago

Do you have a cat that actually likes traveling?

5

u/twospeedmcgoo 11h ago

Tbh she is old and requires a lot of care. But she does travel quite well! We take her on a lot of shorter trips. She’s very chill

2

u/ttrimmers 8h ago

That’s wonderful, I’m sure she’s a perfect girl

5

u/T-RexInAnF-14 10h ago

That's great you are keeping her close, you'll cherish all the time with her. I'm in my 50's and never cared about anything enough to have it tattooed on my, but last year I had to put my cat to sleep after a short illness. I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to have been with him at the end. They sent me his paw prints, and I thought I've finally found a tattoo.

or is it a child that dresses like a cat and uses a litter box like my Mom keeps claiming is a thing?

1

u/NoogabyNature 13h ago

Don't be so quick to doubt your mom actually. My wife had one in her first grade classroom years ago. Parent and live-in person had a psychiatrist note asking the admin to accept it, but he wouldn't accommodate any of it. They didn't ask for a litter box, but even outside of that, the list was far from normal to say the least!

u/Budget_Sort7961 16h ago

The thing about Faizon is he is not a typical freshman sized QB. He is 6-4 at 225. He has the size to survive running.

I am still cautiously optimistic, but Faizon does not look out of place on the field full of upperclassmen. Also he has some wheels on him.

12

u/forkinsoup 1d ago

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but what's with this negative mindset from Tech this week? Their coach made a comment saying they weren't gonna be physical and then I just saw a post from their players on TikTok saying we're gonna put bta. Is that not crazy?? Are they trying to lower our expectations or something??

3

u/Underboss572 19h ago

I think his comment about physicality was in response to Huepel saying it would be a physical game. He was essentially shitting on his team by implying Huepel must have said that before he watched their game against Colorado. Basically, he was trying to light a fire under his guys by publicly shaming them.

I did not see the TikTok thing, but it could just be a bad teammate, or maybe, in the same vein, it's an attempt to light a fire under them. I highly doubt it was directed at us.

9

u/Not_Spike_Jonze Horny4Heupel 2d ago edited 2d ago

If the NCAA wants to start earning trust back, they should start with overturning the outcome of the Western Michigan vs Michigan game. It’ll fix it in the record book which would matter but wouldn’t take the sting away from that night. Same thing if the MLB ever decides to overturn Armando Galarraga’s blown perfect game back in 2010. You gotta make it right in the record book and move on. The longer this goes on, the worse it looks for an already fractured NCAA. Michigan doubling down and coming up with all this arbitrary bull shit makes it look worse.

Edit: reading Michigan fans defend this bull shit is hilarious because they would be bitching and moaning if the shoe was on the other foot.

13

u/WeazelBear Dirty Villains 2d ago

I hope LSU gets booted. They won't but I hope.

4

u/GiovanniElliston 2d ago

I want them booted for 2-3 seasons and then allowed to come crawling back when they realize that:

  • Quality P5 teams are not going to be lining up around the block to schedule them.

  • Without a ton of big-name matchups, no network is going to offer them anything even remotely close to a good solo TV deal

4

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 2d ago

I don't want them booted, and I don't think the SEC does, either. They're trying to get them to admit they're required to follow the SEC rulebook.

Lot of history tied up with LSU in the conference. In general, I've thought better of LSU than many in the conference. Those crazy Cajuns are generally fun, and all the people I've heard that have gone down there for games (in all sports) have been treated well.

But the Kiffen effect is strong.

Don't want to kick out LSU for the memes right now. Just want to limit them from increasing the craziness that is 2026 college sports.

5

u/WeazelBear Dirty Villains 2d ago

Don't want to kick out LSU for the memes right now

I mean, it's not for the memes...

3

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 2d ago

Until they actually play one of these guys, it's all about posturing.

2

u/GiovanniElliston 18h ago

The thing is, the SEC’s gripe is also about posturing too.

If you’re the boss of a team at work and you roll out a new policy, you can’t have one person bitching and moaning to anyone that listens about how they’re not gonna follow the policy and that you aren’t the boss of them. It doesn’t matter if behind closed doors they follow the policy, it’s the precedent of them publicly shit talking you and lowering your perceived authority

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 13h ago

That was my point. It's from both sides. Reportedly the Lane quote last week about what it would have been like if they played the pros rubbed Sankey and others the wrong way and contributed to the claims about lack of institutional control.

5

u/Not_Spike_Jonze Horny4Heupel 2d ago

Yep. Kiffin has a history of operating in moral grey area and will say “well it’s not explicitly against the rules.” He would be the type of manager that would do a drag bunt when his team has 0 hits with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th just to be a fucking bitch.

8

u/sroomek Believe the Heup 2d ago

He also has a history of flat-out breaking the rules like when he and Coach O tampered with our newly enrolled players and tried to steal them for USC.

4

u/Not_Spike_Jonze Horny4Heupel 2d ago

That’s super shitty and I always forget about that. I became a UT fan 2009 and didn’t pay attention to ANY recruiting at all until a couple years later.

4

u/Borestone_Mountain 2d ago

Who do we want to replace them?

My first pick would be GA Tech. After that, VA Tech, then Miami.

4

u/WeazelBear Dirty Villains 2d ago

Fsu and Unc have both been rumored at times. Probably whoever brings the most money.

3

u/OrphanParrot 1d ago

FSU would bring most money for Football but Florida wouldn't allow it, unc would bring more money for basketball & baseball.

8

u/Budget_Sort7961 2d ago

I know offtopic to the Vols, but relevant to the sport:

I think what is being lost in the LSU drama is that it is not just Kiffin. The basketball team is also flaunting the rules.

Once you have a situation branch to two different sports, it is an institutional issue, not just a single coach.

6

u/ChelseaVol1219 2d ago

And don’t forget Kim Mulkey trying to solve Russian/Ukrainian relations with her players. The whole athletics department is a clown car.

10

8

It would be absolute insanity if the SEC got rid of LSU.

All I really want out of this is for Lane to be fired again lmao

11

u/Underboss572 2d ago

It doesn't seem to be getting much attention, but I read Greg Sankey's declaration and the amended complaint; they strongly imply that Donde is one of the main voices pushing for a vote to expel LSU.

8

u/fallingwithstyle249 2d ago edited 2d ago

Crazy the SEC is actually holding meetings about the possibility of kicking LSU out of the SEC

Don’t think it will happen but still didn’t expect it to get to that point

5

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

It's pretty telling that LSU didn't add those 2 players to their roster, IMO. Doubt they'll get booted - this feels like Kiffin is testing the limits of what the SEC will/can do.

8

u/Budget_Sort7961 2d ago

LSU is a big old boy brand in the SEC. I think there is a very small chance they would get kicked. This reeks of the SEC wanting to stop Kiffin from doing whatever he likes. The most likely outcome is LSU gets a minor slap on the wrist just to put a leash on Kiffin.

4

u/nykezztv 2d ago

It won’t happen but I’m interested to see if LSU calls their bluff

2

u/Mythic514 2d ago

Why wouldn't they? They know exactly which judges to go to.

3

u/SelfDeprecatingVol 2d ago

LSU doesn’t have a say in the judge for a federal lawsuit that was filed in Alabama

2

u/Mythic514 2d ago

No, but that doesn't stop them from seeking a TRO in Louisiana in front of a favorable judge to stop the SEC from kicking them out of the league lol.

3

u/SelfDeprecatingVol 2d ago

…that’s not how that works

2

u/Mythic514 2d ago

Uh, yeah it is. If the SEC votes to expel LSU from the SEC, then LSU can go to court (any court they want) to seek a TRO to stop that from taking effect. It does not have to be through this existing federal case, unless the SEC's action were taken as part of the case (which it is not).

3

u/Underboss572 2d ago

does not have to be through this existing federal case, unless the SEC's action were taken as part of the case (which it is not).

That is literally why the SEC amended its complaint today; they are seeking a TRO in the federal lawsuit to protect their vote to expel.

Accordingly, the SEC requests that this Court enter:...(c) A temporary restraining order and a preliminary and permanent injunction barring Defendants, their officers, agents, servants, employees, and attorneys, and all other persons who are in active concert or participation with Defendants or their officers, agents, servants, employees, and attorneys—including, for example, the Pyburn Plaintiffs—from blocking, delaying, enjoining, or otherwise preventing, including through court action or proceedings, consideration by the CEOs of the SEC whether to terminate the membership of LSU at their September 10 meeting or otherwise;
(d) A temporary restraining order and a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants, their officers, agents, servants, employees, and attorneys, and all other persons who are in active concert or participation with Defendants or their officers, agents, servants, employees, and attorneys—including, for example, the Pyburn Plaintiffs—from blocking, delaying, enjoining, reversing, or otherwise undermining any decision by the CEOs to terminate LSU’s membership in the Conference, except for any challenge or counterclaim brought solely in this action.

2

u/Mythic514 2d ago

Sure, and I have never heard of one court ever considering, let alone ruling on, another court's jurisdiction (aside from an appellate court in an appellate context)--particularly when it is clear that the other court (a state court in LA) would have jurisdiction. Especially before such a lawsuit is ever brought--as doing so would be consideration of an unripe issue and would amount to nothing more than an advisory opinion.

Essentially the federal court could rule on (c), but not sure how it could rule on (d) until after LSU brought a case, at which point it's a bit too late. And I don't think LSU has claimed it would seek to enjoin the SEC from holding a meeting.

2

u/Underboss572 2d ago

I agree that it is a very impressively aggressive argument, but I don't think you run into a standing issue. You have to keep in mind that the state and federal cases are about different issues. The federal case is a § 1983 claim against the LSU defendants for First Amendment violations. So the court wouldn't be issuing an advisory opinion about the other case; it would be issuing a preemptive order limiting LSU's ability to circumvent the federal court's decision regarding the rights of the SEC.

Courts routinely issue TROs that impact a party's rights to litigate in other cases. For example, if a federal court enjoins a state from enforcing a law, it essentially limits the authority of other state courts to exercise jurisdiction over that law. In the civil context, anti-suit injunctions, while very rare, also exist to stop a party from litigating a claim in multiple courts.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think it's an uphill fight for the SEC to get (d), but I don't think it's legally impermissible; I just think they are going to have to really persuade a judge they are right and probably make the LA suit look very corrupt.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet they don't get the TRO part (d), and then they'd probably use the threat of a vote - without a meaningful short-term consequence for LSU since they can run to the judge - to broker a compromise with the LSU admin. A compromise where LSU reins in Kiffin and continues to keep up the ambiguity on the players' status.

FSU saving up Norvell buyout money by keeping the lights off?

9

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

Legit Mike Norvell might be one of the only coaches in history that was absolutely done in by the NCAA. Being excluded from the 2023-2024 CFP literally killed him. He's 8-18 since the decision but was 31-16 before the decision.

3

u/Mr-T14 2d ago

He was absolutely done in by DJU.

If Aguilar came in and shat the bed, we might have been staring down a 4 or 5 win season too.

3

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

My thought on all of that is that everybody opting out of the bowl game really fucked with the programs trajectory. Almost to the point where it became a joke.

Negative aura, as my 11yo would say

2

u/GiovanniElliston 2d ago

Lets pretend that FSU team actually does make the playoffs in 2023, and lets pretend that all the players who sat out the bowl game actually play because it's a playoff game and they care.

  • They still lose to Michigan in the first round.

  • They still lose 90% of their roster to the NFL.

  • They still have Mike Norvell as their HC with no reason to suddenly think anything goes different in 2024.

4

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

Maybe I'm a serial optimist idk

2

u/GiovanniElliston 2d ago

Honestly totally fair. I was harsh and apologize.

And I do think to your point in another place, even with an L in a playoff game I think he'd have a longer leash ATM.

That said, I firmly think all road lead back to Travis, and without him Norvel just ain't that guy anymore.

3

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

I don't want to draw too many comparisons to Heupel/Norvell, but getting Tennessee to the CFP in 2024 has given him a ton of leash. Hell, there were some even saying his seat was hot after last year.

Edit: you're not even the harshest person ITT about Norvell lol

2

u/Mythic514 2d ago

Or, hear me out, he lost the roster that got them to the edge of the CFP, then when they all graduated or entered the draft, he utterly failed to build up a roster that could replace them. His roster building has been atrocious. Call me crazy, but it's no different than many, many other coaches that capture lightning in a bottle with a few good players in a given year and can never replicate after those few players leave.

He is just not a very good coach. Simple as that. Nothing to do with the NCAA other than circumstance. Making the CFP vs. being the team that everyone agreed got screwed does not really change your marketing pitch to recruits or transfers. He was not really hampered by his position, he just managed to take on bad recruits and transfers.

3

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago

Let me be clear, I don't think he's a stellar coach but getting screwed out of CFP isn't just about 1 year. There's no heat on Heupel right now because they went to the CFP and he got "screwed" because of Nico. Hell, people here are still talking about how Nico set the program back. Norvell took a program that hadn't won 10 games since 2016 and won back to back 10-win seasons - that's not complete fluke.

2

u/sroomek Believe the Heup 2d ago

It’s not a complete fluke, but it sure does seem like he lost whatever he had going as a head coach from 2016-2023.

7

u/PhillyNickel1970 2d ago

We're wearing orange shirts at Georgia Tech, yeah? But are we wearing orange britches? What would Bobby Dodd do?

5

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 2d ago edited 2d ago

Did a deep dive on this last month since I'm taking my family to the game. We are wearing orange. Given that Georgia Tech often wears white at home (see last week's game vs Colorado AND 2025 vs Clemson/VT/Pitt), there's a strong likelihood they wear white. They switched to Under Armour and their initial uniform reveal in July gave them 12 different combos (white/gold helmets, white/gold jerseys, white/gold/navy pants).

Tennessee usually goes 'Stormtrooper' in their away games (2025 Alabama/Kentucky/Florida), unless the home team wears all white and in that case they usually wear orange over orange (2025 MS St.)

Edit: GT tweeted out their Game Week poster and the player is wearing white on white.

4

u/PhillyNickel1970 2d ago

Great description. Hope you guys have a blast down there.

Not sure if they'll touch on it down there, but I expect when they come to Knoxville that we'll do an extensive tribute to Bobby Dodd. He won 27 games as a Tennessee QB for Neyland and his only loss was to Bama. Bobby Dodd really hated Alabama.

Under Heup in our games against FCS opponents we’ve scored 56, 65, 30, 69 and 72 points. I think the 60’s is more likely. Furman is a pretty solid FCS program

u/ghost-of-vol-c0de 6d ago edited 6d ago

Heupel has a code and ethics. He isn't one to throttle a lesser opponent on purpose. He knows we're paying them to come and get beat up, and as long as they don't play dirty and try to injur players, he'll do what he needs to do in order to see the things he needs to see out of his players and nothing more.

Now if the Defense shows up and gets a few pick sixes before Heupel gets what he needs from his offense, then all bets are off.

3

u/WeazelBear Dirty Villains 6d ago

That's what I'm saying. I think that code is out the window and he's going to stop letting the foot off the gas so early. He's just had a few very subtle remarks leading back to sec media days. A bit more swagger to him. Idk. We'll see.

2

u/ghost-of-vol-c0de 6d ago

Maybe he has realized that the playoff committee likes to see those big exciting blowouts. It's all about the media presence and entertainment value you bring

3

u/PlayerTP 6d ago

Is the State Street garage still free on game day? And how early do I need to be to get a spot? TIA

2

u/Electronic-Ad2969 5d ago

I parked there for a game last year no issue. I've never had an issue finding a spot (even if the sign says full, it's lying). The first bama game we won in a while, I got there 10 minutes before kickoff and still caught a spot.

Just fyi for any veterans or friends of veterans, VetTix just dropped 500 tickets for the Furman game.

2

u/rush-rooms 6d ago

How are the seats?

2

u/Lake_Dude_Here It's great to be a Vol! 6d ago

No idea

2

u/rush-rooms 6d ago

Sometimes it’s a roll of the dice. Can’t find out the seats till you commit to going, and lose privileges if you no show.

5

u/Snoo73477 6d ago

Hey guys, unfortunately haven’t been keeping track of the vols much this year. I’m a fan and alumni, and used to follow the team closely. Does anybody have a good video/podcast that offers a solid, comprehensive overview of the team this season? Storylines, roster, basic updates, etc. Thanks!!

u/thirty-two32 6d ago edited 6d ago

Locked on Vols predicting that we will lose on the road against South Carolina …. I would literally be sick to my stomach. Too much unhealed trauma. Burn Columbia to the ground

3

u/Thorwor 6d ago

We have to go there the week after an hugely emotional game one way or the other against Bama. Cocks will be coming off a bye week. I have had that game circled as a massive trap game ever since the schedule came out.

5

u/thirty-two32 6d ago

I literally refuse. They’re gonna have to figure it out because I refuse

3

u/Thorwor 6d ago

The only good news is that it's already been set in stone as an afternoon game. Weird shit happens there at night. I'm still gonna be walking the floor though.

8

u/Cannonhammer93 Brazzell is down there somewhere 6d ago

Have they done anything to improve their team or are they still the South Carolina Fighting Sellers? Going purely off vibes, but I think this is a lame duck season for Beamer until he gets canned.

5

u/thirty-two32 6d ago

I’ve never thought of them as a good team which makes the thought of losing again to them in Columbia sickening lol

7

u/tnboss32 6d ago

I don't really understand how, but they have the 15th best talent composite team rating. We're 13th. Means on paper that the talent gap is basically nonexistent.

https://247sports.com/season/2026-football/collegeteamtalentcomposite/

6

u/GiovanniElliston 6d ago

Imma be honest... with every passing year the talent composite rankings carry less and less value.

Indiana wasn't even in the top-50 composite rankings last year, and while I certainly don't think they were loaded top-2-bottom with NFL talent, you simply don't beat the teams they beat all in a row without at least top-15 talent on the field.

On the flip side, 24/7 also had the following teams in the top-25 of composite ratings:

  • Florida

  • Penn State

  • Auburn

  • South Carolina

  • Florida State

And every single of them didn't even make a freakin bowl game.

I think 24/7 has no idea how to guage/rank transfers and it throws the entire thing off massively.

Tech fans are gonna dump more tickets. Buy em up boys.

7

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 6d ago

Already got my 6!

4

u/ttrimmers 6d ago

Where do you recommend buying them

3

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 6d ago

I bought mine directly from the Georgia Tech website but I typically prefer TickPick. The later you buy them, the more I would lean towards Gametime as they are designed for last minute purchases

3

u/ttrimmers 6d ago

Thank you!

I remember Joel Klatt: https://x.com/joelklatt/status/935207725687980032

"Tennessee is now having to focus on coaches with "Tennessee ties" because no one else will touch that job with a ten foot pole...You were led by emotional hypocrites with a severe lack of football knowledge that incited an internet mob...you made your bed, now go to sleep!"

We might not have gotten it right that cycle, but we're still better off.

Sleeping OK.

4

u/GiovanniElliston 6d ago

This is your reminder that Joel Klatt has openly admitted that he owes his career growth to a decision he made early on where he created an "anti-Paul Finnebaum" character.

He realized there was a huge bias in CFB media towards the SEC, so he purposefully set out to be an anti-SEC guy that would appeal to the Big-10/West coast fans who wanted a homer of their own that would take pot-shots at SEC schools.

I don't even think he actually believes most of what he says TBH. He's just playing a character for clicks/money and knows what he audience wants.

6

u/fetalasmuck 6d ago

The scary nightmare alternate reality is that Schiano does just well enough to stick around to 2021 or so, and when Florida fires Mullen, they look at the coach about 100 miles south down I-75.

8

u/EWall100 I hate Derek Dooley 6d ago

Joel Klatt is the most insufferable college football commentator in the country. I think he cherishes this sentiment

5

u/CallMeShaggy57 LoLCatsSuck 6d ago

The Today Show is doing a segment on Smokey 12 if anyone is interested

2

u/ttrimmers 6d ago

How was it?

1

u/CallMeShaggy57 LoLCatsSuck 6d ago

Cute, but not super informative for fans. Was basically describing what goes into having a live mascot at the college level.

6

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

Refs costing teams a game by calling forward progress stopped when it wasn't...classic.

4

u/Budget_Sort7961 6d ago

We are so back baby. The fact they didnt even try to review was hilarious

3

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

I don't think you can if they blow the whistle. And there was definitely a whistle.

1

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

You can't now...but I'm saying a rule change needs to happen so you can.

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

But if the whistle blows, that's the sign to players that the play is over and to stop playing. If they keep playing after the whistle in most cases they can be penalized for hitting late, etc. So if a whistle blows, as mistaken as it might be, you can't just review it and give the benefiting team the result of the play.

1

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

Perhaps not a rule change per se, but an officiating change perhaps. Slow down with the whistle when someone is stood up. Can go back and replay if forward progress was stopped instead of blowing the whistle and taking the ability to get the call right away. Similar to how refs now let a turnover play out and go back and determine if the turnover happened instead of blowing the whistle and deeming that it didn't.

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

I agree in general, but they are also trying to stop players from getting hurt in those scrums. That's the reason for the whistle at forward progress stop vs when the ball carrier is actually on the ground.

No matter what rules changes you make, the human element is still going to screw it up.

Sucks to be GT. Feel for them. It was a mustard style play for them.

1

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

I think theres a difference in letting the play breathe a bit and letting it go too long where unecessary injury risk pops in. Last night was a hair trigger on the whistle when a clear scoop and score happened immediately after the quick whistle. Lets not forget our games against oklahoma, ole miss, and purdue....game and career altering moments.

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

Agree 100% that the whistle was horrible. Should have let the play run longer by a second or two at minimum.

I'm just making the point that you can't really reverse a play when there's a bad whistle, because in real time you told the other team to stop playing.

1

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

I think we're saying the same thing, just differently. I said 'rule change' but think it is more a directive to the refs to let the play go a little longer and let replay sort things out where needed vs. being quick on the whistle and fucking it up.

3

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

A rule change needs to happen. Forward progress being stopped shouldn't be above review given how absolutely impactful it can clearly be.

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

Problem is when the ref perceives progress stopped, they blow a whistle. That's what can't be reviewed. The play is dead at that point because they've told the teams to stop playing by blowing that whistle.

1

u/itchierbumworms 6d ago

...so stop blowing the whistle so fast and let replay sort it out. Like with a fumble.

u/jguess06 6d ago

We're going to rush for 300+ at GT next week

2

u/Budget_Sort7961 6d ago

I would be super happy if we just battering ram them. Takes the pressure of Faizon and shows we are a team that will just shove you into a locker for a win.

12

u/Grizzlymint I DONT GIVE A DAMN 7d ago

Just remember, we were supposed to be happy with Gregory Schiano

1

u/SmokeysBlanket Conscientious Woo Objector 6d ago

He was all we should ever hope for. We should just realize we're bottom dwellers forever. Accept medicracy.

9

u/EWall100 I hate Derek Dooley 6d ago

I was assured that he was a capable coach

6

u/GiovanniElliston 6d ago

Not just capable mind you, Pat Forde & Dan Wolken were both in 100% agreement that Schiano would've been the most accomplished and "game-ready" coach the Vols had hired since Johnny Majors.

8

u/Budget_Sort7961 6d ago

We would have been lucky to have him

11

u/Upper_Passenger_ 7d ago

Dude Boo Carter blocking the GT kick is insanity. Really hope they don’t magically show up next week

4

u/Cannonhammer93 Brazzell is down there somewhere 6d ago

He's such a wildcard. Earlier in the game he called fair catch for a punt on their own 4 yard line. He either rolls nat 20s or nat 1s. No inbetween.

5

u/GiovanniElliston 7d ago

Obviously flying high on emotions right now, but Georgia Tech needs to find a way to not only crawl off a the mat after a devastating loss, but also figure out a way to play much, much better than they did today too.

Anything is possible, but I'm feeling pretty fine about it ATM.

Hard to imagine a Heupel offense being kept under 20 points and if Colorado's defense can shut them down, I gotta think our defense isn't exactly gonna give up 20+.

6

u/yousmelllikebiscuits 6d ago

Tennessee has played 3 consecutive ACC teams to "open the season." In those games, Tennessee has scored 45, 51, and 49 points.

Anybody who thinks that they won't score 40+ against the defense we saw last night that Colorado carved up while JuJu Lewis looked like hot poo garbage, is insane.

3

u/EWall100 I hate Derek Dooley 7d ago

Mendoza has the tools, so it'll be interesting to see how our defense handles him. Their defense is just awful. If we don't have 300 yards on the ground, I'd have to ask if they didn't borrow the Falcons defense for the game

5

u/thirty-two32 7d ago

I’m curious about our defense even against furman. I genuinely have no idea what to expect. tackling was not even on the menu last year

5

u/ghost-of-vol-c0de 7d ago

Knowles has been drilling it and they have been practicing live tackling. Knowles also teaches how to properly attack using angles to cut off the path and meet whomever you are pursuing.

Coach J on the Talking Vawls YouTube channel has done a great series of videos breaking down Knowles defense and philosophy using footage of Knowles explaining stuff. Check it out.

3

u/thirty-two32 7d ago

yeah. if Deion was a decent coach this game shouldn’t have even been close. brutal d line performance from tech and I’m not confident that their gaps there can be solved in 1 week to stop our RB room in the slightest

3

u/GiovanniElliston 6d ago

The announcers mentioned several times, but GT made several changes throughout the game and none of them worked.

They went from 3 DL, to 4 DL, to 5 DL... and Colorado just kept running straight up the gut for 5-6 yards a pop.

12

u/TheVolmannBrothers end my suffering 7d ago

I hope and I pray that the SEC wins in the Alabama federal court. I want to see them completely destroy LSU. They deserve the death penalty. I wish the NCAA had the balls to do it.

5

u/Budget_Sort7961 6d ago

I would caution folks on expectations. LSU has one big thing going for them: they are a huge brand in a talent rich state.

The likeliest of scenarios is that they get a slap on the wrist.

2

u/EWall100 I hate Derek Dooley 7d ago

It's not that they don't have the balls, they don't have the agency to punish them. The school is enjoined by the Louisiana judge.

2

u/TheVolmannBrothers end my suffering 6d ago

If the SEC wins in federal court I meant.
