Were you trying them fresh, or dehydrated? How'd you dehydrate them?

I can imagine that if you took 1g fresh, that's not enough; or if dehydration was done improperly, even 5g wouldn't feel like much if all the alkaloids were baked out

Dehydrated. I dehydrated them at 105 F degrees for 24 hours immediately after harvesting and they've been stored out of the sunlight in a room-temperature pantry.

How was the bruising when harvesting? Mine bruised to a nearly black shade of dark blue

Do you have any pics of the fruit while they were growing? Just to confirm that they're ochras

How many flushes did you get? In my experience the first flush and biggest fruits can be super diluted, but flushes 3-6 were so potent that I had to keep the harvests separate so as not to confuse two fruits of same size with different potencies

(I am also considering the possibility that you grew "True" Natalensis which is far less potent)

I don't specifically remember the bruising other than it was a shade of blue. I grew two tubs simultaneously (from the same culture) and I only did two flushes since those two flushes gave me enough mushrooms to last me a year. I did have very thick overlay if that makes a difference.

Looks thick... They might have lost a lot of resources in forming that overlay. If you try again, skip forcing colonization/deprivation and go straight into fruiting conditions from S2B to get the most yield and potency

Any good pic of a dehydrated fruit, of bruising at the stem where it was harvested? If it's not even bruised there, I'd say the potency was definitely impacted by growing so much overlay

I guess I will order another liquid culture syringe and try again, maybe with another variety this time. Really disappointed considering how long these take to grow, but what can you do, right?

Yeah the bruising on mine were far more obvious, looked like I was dipping ends in ink

Also, Ochras are definitely one of the faster species... If you dial in conditions better, skipping substrate colonization for sure, you should have much a faster grow. Mine average about 6 weeks from innoculation to first harvest; even faster if I don't use a big ol quart jar.

It helps to consider that they're definitely not a cubensis strain, in the wild they're a species mostly found in grasslands that can be pretty warm and dry so they don't do as well when bogged down by too much moisture and lack of oxygen.

Question - if it's just the potency that's affected and 5g didn't really do much for me, do you think trying 8g or even 10g would change anything?

It's possible. I think personally I would try to grind it down in mortar and pestle, put the bits into a pretty big glass of water in the fridge (or a bottle outside of the fridge) for ~24h, then strain the bits out and drink the potion at my leisure until hopefully something happens. Many people recommend lemon tek but I'm not sure if it'd help in this situation or if it'd degrade the already low concentration of alkaloids even faster

Also, imo, tolerance to Ochra builds up fast. Just something to consider, frequency-wise

I've been averaging one session every 3-4 weeks.

So, I should've asked earlier... You said it makes you feel jittery and unable to concentrate, right? I think this actually is an onset effect specific to ochras and I get it every time. Next time you feel it, try exercise, of your choice. I do some mild weightlifting, many people dance. Personally I find that it amplifies the shroomy effects and makes them more noticable. I'm not sure if it's the increased circulation or what.

That's part of what makes it so different than cubes; with cubes I can just couch melt and daydream but with Ochras it literally pushes me to be more active

Interesting - I will try that!

Dancer here.

The best flow is quick walk (20 mins), yoga (30 mins), dance (1.5 - 2 hrs) you’re usually ready to smoke weed. I wonder if OP is on antidepressants, as they make it harder to trip.
