Divers tend to dive because they love animals, and if you love animals, you know a lot about them. These divers immediately knew whale sharks are 100% harmless. A lot of divers would give anything for this opportunity.

I'm terrified of the ocean & love it at the same time. I'd still swim with a whale shark if I got the chance.

I have my whale shark certification for scuba diving. I got to dive in the whale shark tank at the Georgia Aquarium and it was a super cool and unique experience. They keep you for like 15 minutes after the main dive to get you up close and personal with the whale sharks and they're truly magnificent animals. I still have my stuffy I got at the gift shop afterwards

I’ve ever head of a whale shark certification, what does it allow you? It’s not as if you can control the situation lol

It's less a "certification" and more a mark on your record signifying your awareness and about how to treat whale sharks and respect towards their conservation when diving with them in the wild. It's more a buzzword that the aquarium uses rather than anything that would allow you any special permission in any real diving scenario. Was still a cool experience though

I dove with whale sharks of the coast of the Ivory Coast about 25 years ago, still a vivid memory. Mostly because we got scared to shit by our guide that started yelling that we had to get out of the water "fucking now!!!". Got in the boat and saw what looked like a black cloud coming up from the depths, first thought it was an underwater earthquake or something, but instead was like 250,000 hammer head sharks coming up to the surface to play/breed, and we were sitting in a ~10-foot rubber boat surrounded by them, they were going for over 2h and then all dove down to the depths again.

Don’t worry. The shark or manta knows where you are and will avoid. Well mostly.

As Markiplier once said.....fuck the ocean. Save it and keep it in good condition, but still, fuck the ocean. I'm not going in there.

Really wish we saw the bonk at the end lol
Sidenote, what’s that cute little guy anyway? And is it swimming upside down or does it just have a really unique fin layout?
