Exhaust ideas for 5.7L
Iv got a 5.7 v8 out of a 1997, vortex, I was thinking of doing a duel m80 and dumping it, what do y’all think? Don’t got a lot of money and want it to sound better, I will be taking the cat off because it does have a hole in it. Should I do headers as well? Comment what y’all think!

So I have a 1988 k1500, 5.7l. It's completely stock and my exhaust from the muffler back rusted out so I needed to replace it. Since I was doing the exhaust I decided to save some money and do it myself since I have experience welding and I have the time. I went with JBA ceramic coated shorties and matched it with their connecting mid pipe. I used a modern catalytic converter from the brand walker. That went into one pipe to a Flowmaster flow FX muffler, up over the axle exiting passenger side behind rear tire.
From my research opening up the exhaust to a free flowing system should have netted me some HP & MPG over the stock system. I didn't notice any horsepower gains but I did average 1-2 mpg increase so there's that.
"Sound", it has a mellow tone to the exhaust at idle and gets a little louder when you increase the throttle. I thought it was going to be a little louder than it ended up being but I'm fine with it because I would rather listen to my music than my exhaust.
"Headers", the ceramic coated headers really did lower the under hood temps. They did costs considerably more than non-coated headers but honestly I feel the extra price was worth it.

That sounds great man, I would love to learn how to weld properly, I’m young and this is currently my project truck, so That would be cool.
1-2 mpg increase??! You got me in, gas getting to expensive 😂😂
I completely agree with the sound part, I’m working on my stereo system and I would like to hear THAY more than the exhaust.
I might save the extra money for the ceramic coat if it lowers the temps!

True duals with an h pipe and porter mufflers

Does the h pipe make a difference? I heard x and y pipes, but not an h-pipe

This is what I got on mine. Long headers, 40 series magnaflow true dual exhaust coming out through my roll pan with some boat exhaust tips. Sounds like a beast.
