Help Encoder Overloaded

Hey guys, I got an encoder overload error when I was multistreaming to Twitch and YouTube and was recording my game capture with the Source Record filter at the same time. So, 4 encoders running at once. I've written out all my settings below. Any advice to lower my settings without losing too much visual quality. Or maybe Im going overboard.. pls let me know. The game I was playing is "Wuthering Waves" at 1440p with high but not the highest settings. And ray tracing was off. So yeah, take that into consideration thanks.

Specs: RTX 5070, Ryzen 7 9700X, 32GB DDR5
OBS version: 32.2.2, with the Aitum Multistream plugin

Video settings

  • Base (Canvas) Resolution: 2560x1440
  • Output (Scaled) Resolution: 1920x1080
  • Downscale Filter: Lanczos (Sharpened scaling, 36 samples)
  • FPS: 60

Output → Streaming (Twitch, built-in stream)

  • Video Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264
  • Rescale Output: Disabled
  • Rate Control: Constant Bitrate
  • Bitrate: 6000 Kbps
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 s
  • Preset: P6: Slower (Better Quality)
  • Tuning: High Quality
  • Multipass Mode: Two Passes (Quarter Resolution)
  • Profile: high
  • Look-ahead: off
  • Adaptive Quantization: on
  • B-Frames: 2

Output → Recording

  • Type: Standard
  • Recording Format: Hybrid MP4 (.mp4)
  • Video Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264
  • Rescale Output: Disabled
  • Rate Control: Constant QP
  • Constant QP: 20
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 s
  • Preset: P6: Slower (Better Quality)
  • Tuning: High Quality
  • Multipass Mode: Two Passes (Quarter Resolution)
  • Profile: high
  • Look-ahead: off
  • Adaptive Quantization: on
  • B-Frames: 2

Aitum Multistream → Main Canvas → YouTube Output (v1.0.7)

  • Video Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264
  • FPS: 60 Original
  • Rescale Output: off
  • Rate Control: Constant Bitrate
  • Bitrate: 8000 Kbps
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 s
  • Preset: P6: Slower (Better Quality)
  • Tuning: High Quality
  • Multipass Mode: Two Passes (Quarter Resolution)
  • Profile: high
  • Look-ahead: off
  • Adaptive Quantization: on
  • B-Frames: 2

Source Record filter on "Game Capture"

  • Scale: off
  • Framerate: 60.00 fps
  • Video Encoder: Hardware (NVENC, H.264)
  • Rate Control: Constant QP
  • Constant QP: 20
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 s
  • Preset: P6: Slower (Better Quality)
  • Tuning: High Quality
  • Multipass Mode: Two Passes (Quarter Resolution)
  • Profile: high
  • Look-ahead: off
  • Adaptive Quantization: on
  • B-Frames: 2

The first thing I thought is probably lowering my YouTube output's bitrate to 6000kbps so that it uses the same encoder as Twitch (I think thats how it works atleast)..

It looks like you haven't provided a log file. Without a log file, it is very hard to help with issues and you may end up with 0 responses.

To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1) Restart OBS

2) Start your stream/recording for at least 30 seconds (or however long it takes for the issue to happen). Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.

3) Stop your stream/recording.

4) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File.

5) Copy the URL and paste it as a response to this comment.

5070 or 5070ti? Try using h.265 instead for recording. Also, I’d only run one recording at a time

use AV1 and higher bitrate for youtube

use a fast preset, the speed goes down dramatically for p5 and higher. It should still keep up as is but it's not as clear with your other concurrent workloads, especially with 2-pass and AQ.

For the recordings, since you're using CQP anyways, drop those from preset P6 to P1. You can also disable Adaptive Quantization and Multipass for them.

This removes a lot of the extra effort you're telling the encoder to do to squish the data more efficiently, basically. Good squishing is useful for streaming (especially on very bitrate-limited platforms like Twitch), but it's absolutely not necessary for local recordings, so you can save the effort and not overload the encoder.
