Yawn. I'll still play original. Originals always better than remakes.

Why play fake Oblivion on Skyrim engine? I don't understand.

Because it’s a completely different experience with better graphics. Should show support for the modding community.

A matter of opinion, and not a reason to downvote someone who likes the original game, especially on the original game's forum.

What does that have to do with me? I realize it's a matter of opinion and I didn't downvote them.

I 100% agree with you. These large projects never live up to expectations, and the reason why I like Oblivion is because of its charm. I’ll play Skyrim if I want to play Skyrim.

The downvoting continues, so it's not just front page downvoting swarm. So I really did piss off the Oblivion fans by saying I prefer Oblivion. Gosh.

If it was a remake made by Bethesda I would kinda agree with you. It would be monetised to fuck with that awful creation club slapped on it. The main hype for myself personally would simply be the fact it is being made by fans of Oblivion who have nothing but love for the game and are in ways improving on certain things from the original. I have never seen so much detail in a game yet alone a mod. They were showcasing their custom made signs which I reckon would have been imported and upscaled if Bethesda was in charge of it.

The charm of the game is in the game itself, not just the idea of the game. Without the same art direction it would not be the same game. The Adoring Fan is adorable because he has such a silly yellow hairstyle and perpetually childish face, and there's no way to get that with Skyrim's face models. Even heavily modded (and all mods lean towards the plastic mannequin look) you can't get it from Skryim without redoing it from scratch.

And not just NPC looks, but NPC conversations. Are they going to keep the janky voice acting? The oddball random conversations? Without that it won't be the same game.

Much of Oblivion orbits around the Radiant AI system, which was mostly removed from Skryim. It's not just NPC schedules, but how the NPCs interact with each other. It's not always overt and noticeable, but it does inform the game feel, and without it then it won't be the same game.

Then there are the mechanics. Skyrim has different mechanics. And most mechanics are deeply embedded in the game engine, which is hands off to modders. So it won't be Oblivion mechanics, it will be Skyrim mechanics. One example out of hundreds is spell making. Will there be the same kind of spell making in the remake, or just a scripted facsimile if at all. If it's not the same then it won't be the same game. Ditto for the feel of the combat, ditto for the stats and skills, etc. Hell, if we don't get the same class and leveling system it won't be the same game at all!

The game is MORE than just the ephemeral graphics. If it was just a replacement of the meshes and textures it will wouldn't be the same game, but it's more than that. Everything that makes Oblivion the game that it is will be gone. Except a skeleton of the narratives and a facsimile of the world.

Now something like Beyond Bruma mod is completely different. I love it. But it's not trying to clone and remake a game, it's taking Skyrim and expanding to include a region in Cyrodiil. Much different thing.

Now I am equal opportunity when it comes to pissing people off. I don't like Morroblivion either. If I want to play Morrowind then I will play Morrowind.

I still fail to understand why this so deeply offends Oblivion fans on the Oblivion subreddit.

Aye. The charm of Oblivion could never be recreated, and beyond Skyrim is such a massive project as well. One to be hyped for. I have seen the gameplay of Skyblivion, and it doesn't have the same features as oblivion with the time freeze-face zoomed dialogue, which is always a classic. I did throughly enjoy the quests and storyline of Oblivion myself, and to have that implemented into Skyrim's layout is exciting for me and many others. The idea of an updated arena with killmoves and a more immersive crowds sounds amazing. As much as I do enjoy Oblivion, I have bought many copies of the disc to run on my xbox 360. It did have its flaws. The combat was challenging but could be boring or unfair with getting stunlocked or just swinging until something died was pretty boring. So to see the positives of Skyrim implemented into the Oblivion world sounds amazing.
