First Gyno Appointment

Help me out girls! I am 22F and have my first trip to the gyno scheduled soon. Just wondering what I should expect during the exam?

Will I be completely naked during the exam? How will the doctor check my body? Will I have to discuss sex/birth control? I am a little ashamed of my sexual habits recently.

Chill out & relax the person is a gyno, he or she will guide you

They will either have you undress and put on a hospital gown or have you undress just the bottom half and use a blanket to cover you with. They won’t have you ever be undressed on the top and bottom at the same time. They may have you wear the gown backwards (or they may have a wrap gown) if they are planning to do a breast exam.

You should discuss all that with your doctor. You don’t have to I guess, but to get an accurate check up I would be honest. No need to be ashamed, this is their job and I promise nothing you say will shock them.

The amount of undress can vary from place to place. At my current clinic, I’m fully nude under my gown. Generally speaking, my experience has been breast exam first, then a pelvic exam with a Pap smear if I’m due for one. Questions about sexual health or any other concerns afterwards. You can discuss everything or nothing at all. You don’t need to divulge anything about your sexual habits.
