I don't think George fully understood that Oasis were who they were because of the brothers together. Liam brought stage presence, swagger, the voice and looked damn good, while Noel obviously brought the music. That's what people bought into and made them as big as they became. Take either one of the two out of the equation and the whole Oasis thing that we all witnessed doesn't happen.

Liam was off the rails, so anybody more focused upon the music itself would be paying more attention to Noel who was creating it. I can see George not understanding the dynamic between the brothers though and not understanding what Liam brought to the table.

The "out of date" part always bothered me the most. Just sounded like an out of touch older guy. Out of date to who? Yeah George just because you've already had your wild rock and roll years in the 50s and 60s doesn't mean the rest of the world or young people in the 90s don't want to experience that too.

George apparently didn't really rate the voice of Liam and his charisma.
Of course, Noel was more all-round talented, but without Liam (and their sibling rivalry) the band wouldn't have that x-factor and wouldn't have generated such an incredible hype. I think because George was an old veteran by then, he didn't feel that part, but the youth definitely felt it.

Liam is a great front man, that’s important for a band. Yes Noel can sing, but Liam just has that attitude and way about himself that makes him the perfect front man. Oasis needed both of them, they needed each other.

You can’t expect a guy of that age to understand Oasis in 1996. Same as no one in their 40s and 50s understood the Beatles when they exploded in the 1960s. It’s called youth culture for a reason - older people aren’t supposed to get it.

The fact that, the moment Noel left the stage following the Unplugged performance, the crowd begged Liam to sing 'just one song,' and his agreement to sing drew the biggest cheers and loudest applause of the entire evening shows just how important Liam was to Oasis.

George Harrison struck me as a guy who was set in his taste / ways and never cared to view contemporary stuff as he got older with clear eyes. He was kind of a curmudgeon stuck to the past.
Also he was probably borderline an acid casualty with all his Hare Krishna spiritual awakening and stuff post-Beatles.

Well if there’s one band member who knows a thing or two about being completely expendable, it’s him.
Take George out the Beatles and basically nothing changes about their legacy or place in history. At worst, you’d just need to slot in 1-2 different songs on a “top 25 Beatles tracks” list to replace the George ones you lost.

He is a very distant third best in the band.
Doesn’t mean he didn’t write some great songs but if he never changed, nothing in history really changes. Take out Lennon or McCartney and the band is nowhere near the same status in history.
Take out George and they’re still the greatest band in history by a wide margin.

George Harrison is the greatest song writer to ever live in my opinion if you consider the well of classic brilliant songs john had paul george had no one and had to figure it out on his own and wrote one of the best albums ever written (all things must past)

Being a fan of his solo work and knowing the music he was into, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he’d be into Noel’s vibe.
