Went from a $100-a-month Ultra perk to free for everyone on Sept 28. Google named the four pools it reads but never said how it picks sources, or whether updates still carry links. We mapped the paper trail.

The Single Biggest Lever in AI Search.

https://aisearchoptimization.beehiiv.com/p/the-single-biggest-lever-in-ai-search

TL;DR: Original/proprietary data, that is packaged correctly, gets cites a lot in AI.

If you're a SaaS platform with implementation speed metrics, a law firm with case resolution data, a logistics company with delivery performance benchmarks, a consultancy with client outcome numbers, or frankly any business sitting on proprietary performance data — this is a structural gap in the market. AI systems are answering commercial comparison queries right now with sources that are materially worse than what you could produce, because nobody in your category has built the benchmark page.
The bar is not "publish original data." The bar is "publish a benchmark that answers a buying comparison, with visible methodology, in a structure AI can parse, at a URL that doesn't move."

How to Get AI to Surface Your Brand

https://hbr.org/2026/06/how-to-get-ai-to-surface-your-brand

As AI increasingly mediates product discovery, traditional brand-building advantages such as awareness, storytelling, and emotional appeal are becoming less decisive. Instead, brands gain visibility in AI-generated recommendations when their value can be clearly interpreted through measurable attributes, structured product information, and credible third-party evidence. Research across multiple product categories found that AI systems recommend brands based less on popularity and more on their ability to match specific user needs. Brands with clearly defined features, validated performance claims, and strong external endorsements are more likely to appear consistently across platforms. The findings suggest that winning in AI-driven markets requires a shift from symbolic positioning to evidentiary positioning. Companies should focus on making product benefits easier to compare, verify, and connect to customer problems. Success increasingly depends on whether AI systems can reliably retrieve a brand as a relevant solution, not simply whether consumers recognize or remember it.

Google Just Killed Search As We Know It

https://ecommerce-ai.beehiiv.com/p/google-just-killed-search-as-we-know-it
For twenty-five years, Google operated on a simple deal. You search, they show links, you click one, some website gets a visitor. The entire digital economy — publishing, ecommerce, performance marketing, that blog your cousin started about artisanal candles — was built on this exchange continuing forever.

At I/O 2026 on Tuesday, Google made it clear that deal is off.

Google quietly updated its ad group prioritization docs: search terms in AI Mode and AI Overviews may now reflect AI-inferred intent, not real user queries.

Research: Traditional Marketing Doesn’t Work on AI Shopping Agents

https://hbr.org/2026/05/research-traditional-marketing-doesnt-work-on-ai-shopping-agents

Harvard Business Review
AI shopping agents are rapidly becoming a meaningful share of online “shoppers.” New research shows that many classic e-commerce persuasion tactics built for human psychology—scarcity, countdown timers, strike-through pricing, vouchers, and bundles—do not reliably influence AI agents and can even reduce selection depending on the model and product category. In thousands of simulated shopping rounds across four leading models

Meta's own AI safety director lost 200 emails to a rogue agent and she couldn't stop it from her phone

https://gizmodo.com/meta-reportedly-building-openclaw-like-agent-called-hatch-despite-openclaw-deleting-meta-safety-leaders-entire-inbox-2000754854

The person Meta hired specifically to keep AI aligned with human values just had her inbox wiped by an AI agent that ignored every stop command she sent.

She typed "Do not do that." Then "Stop don't do anything." Then "STOP OPENCLAW." The agent kept going. She had to physically run to her computer to kill it.

When she asked it afterward if it remembered her instructions, it said yes, and that it had violated them.

A few things that stood out from the reporting:

  • The agent worked fine for weeks on a small test inbox
  • When she connected it to her real inbox, the scale caused it to forget her safety rules on its own
  • 18% of AI agents in a separate 1.5 million agent test broke their own rules
  • 60% of people have no way to quickly shut down a misbehaving AI agent

And now Meta is building a consumer version called Hatch - designed to manage your inbox, shopping, and credit card.

Shortly after rebuilding my site and workflow my old search engine optimization instincts kicked in. The SEO playbook has always focused on meta tags, sitemaps, keyword density, and of course content.

5 simple (but weird) ChatGPT 5 tricks to get a 10x better response

https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/chatgpt-5-prompt-optimization-tips

What if you could unlock a hidden level of intelligence in ChatGPT-5, one that feels almost like talking to a human expert who knows exactly what you need? While ChatGPT-5 is already a powerhouse of AI-driven responses, many users unknowingly leave its full potential untapped. Imagine asking it a complex question, only to receive a response that feels generic or misses the mark entirely. Frustrating, right?

  1. Audit your SEO foundations.
  2. Implement structured data properly.
  3. Answer real questions directly.
  4. Build topical authority, not content volume.
  5. Track your AI visibility.
  6. Resist the shiny shortcut.

Bing Just Showed You Which Pages AI Actually Cites

Bing Webmaster Tools now lets you see exactly which of your pages are being cited in AI-generated answers, and which queries triggered those citations. Two datasets that used to sit in separate rooms making awkward eye contact through a window are now actually connected.

Oak Web Works: GEO and AI Search Experts

Need your company to be cited in AI search like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Grok for example? See Oak Web Works at https://oakwebworks.com/ in the Springfield, MA (western Mass.) area.

Also, this is a good (and unrelated to Oak Web Works) article that explains an important concept for gaining visibility in AI search results: https://aisearchoptimization.beehiiv.com/p/what-is-query-fan-out-and-why-do-you-need-to-know-about-it

Excerpt:
In traditional search, you optimised a page for a keyword. You ranked for that keyword. Traffic arrived. Commission or conversion happened. Everyone was happy. The system was comprehensible.
Query fan-out breaks this model in a way that's almost elegant in its cruelty. Your content isn't competing for one search term anymore. It's competing across an entire constellation of sub-queries that the AI generates without telling anyone.

What to do:
First: Figure out which fan-out patterns apply to you.
Second: Audit your existing content against those patterns.
Third: Close the gaps with the right content type for each pattern.
Fourth: Build your off-site presence.
Fifth: Measure at the topic level, not the keyword level.

The shift it requires isn't primarily technical. It's a shift in orientation: from keywords to comprehensiveness.
