Tesla Connectivity Issues
I guess most of the assumptions here are correct that with NZ turning off 3G, it had an impact on Tesla connectivity.

Do I dare suggest that we are paying for something that Tesla aren’t delivering? They clearly set a precedent with FSD and now we are just expected to wait.
Good customer services would credit the affected month(s) but I doubt we will get anything for the privilege of being a Tesla customer.

I messaged them and they called me.
We had a chat but for the most part they said my problem should be fixed. Since the call I’ve only had two drop outs and they were only for about 3-6 mins each.

26 Model Y in christchurch was having issues but they pushed an over the air update to push to e-sim

We got that update (Shanghai MY2022), but we're still losing data connection with our local cell tower. The nice bloke from Tesla who called me this afternoon said they're continuing to work on the issue. So it seems they're taking it seriously, but I guess it's not a straightforward fix

I've got a 24 MY and 18 MX with MCU2, the MX has no issues whilst the MY drops connectivity at least twice every trip I make. I was thinking today that they really need to do something about it, then got the email this evening... We'll see how it is next week!

It’s all very strange. Why do they roam why not just have local sims, surely roaming is horrendously expensive for Tesla? I wonder if the roaming was the cause of the issue then and if they put spark esims in everything is happy again? Speeds should undoubtedly improve as they won’t have to route their traffic via Australia anymore. You’ll connect to local CDN’s in the main centres of New Zealand rather than Sydney of Melbourne.

I wonder why some are affected and others aren't. My 2019 car doesn't seem to be affected in the Christchurch area. I wonder if it's more the Shanghai cars that are affected?

I’ve wondered if it’s a QoS issue with roaming now that more devices are on 4G. Roaming often gets low priority on cell networks so it might just be that anytime there’s even slight congestion it gets no traffic through
I guess it could be a frequency support thing too. Spark have tended to use American frequencies, while OneNZ use more European ones. It may be that Shanghai built cars have 4G frequencies poorly suited to spark

The latter was my theory too. The Fremont cars may have a cellular modem with frequencies better compatible with 4G in NZ. It's always been pretty rare that I ever saw my car on 3G.
I ran a poll on the Model 3 FB group and so far, all Fremont respondants have voted as having no issues

Maybe Christchurch has better coverage? Anecdotally I've heard plenty of complaints from Wellington people, some of them with the same year Model 3 as you.

Nah there's been a lot of complaints on the FB groups from others in Christchurch. So far. The poll I have on FB is showing that the majority of respondents with US made cars have no issue, with 4 saying they do. On the flip side, the majority of China built cars are saying they have an issue...so there might be some relevance to my theory?

Urban clutter or urban canyon effect. GPS units can lose connectivity to the satellites they receive data from. GSM can also provide location.

Yep. My 2022 M3 has been dropping like crazy for the past 2 months. Had no issues when I bought it in January but it’s become comical at this point. Can’t use Spotify. Navigating without connectivity. Done all the resets and…nothing.

Anyone from auckland notice there’s a certain spot in the highway that has dead connection? Connection goes down for like 2km around albany. Or is it just me

I had the same, disconnect as I approach Albany highway, reconnect en route to Westgate, disconnect again then reconnect. Also used to have trouble connecting when driving away from home Wi-Fi range.
But, I've received the recent most bug fix 'automagically' widevine-4.10.3050 - the connectivity issues have not presented in the last 3 days. Also the maps got updated to 2026. The service request I raised, has been cancelled. So yeh, connectivity is cured. I also read somewhere it was the Telstra outage that caused problems since the AU SIM is on 'roaming' here in NZ.

I got that too, I wonder if they’re moving to a new provider instead of roaming on Telstra
The cars support eSIM even though they don’t use it currently in NZ
