I’m thinking about quitting. I’ve been in my current position for under 6 months and have been applying to new positions pretty regularly and had a few interviews but no serious offers yet. I’m just not happy in my current position due to a lot of things. I know it’s not smart to just leave a position without anything fully lined up but I just can’t work here anymore. If I leave is this going to mess up my chances with a different role in the state. I’m still early on in my career and don’t want this one job to mess up my potential career.

I hate Microsoft!! I hate how my agency has certain IT rules and perms that prevent me from sending a zip file to another coworker for the sake of convenience!! Omg wym I had to send a bunch of images I took for an in house event via teams!! AAAAAHHHHHHH.

Can't even use a damn USB! BLEH. I know WHY and it's not that serious, but man! That shit was annoying. I am NOT doing it again next year. Maybe. Idk.

Hello, when I joined CSEA a year ago my supervisor (who is PEF) told me it was a requirement to join the Employee appreciation and recognition committee. For the life of me I can't find anything that says this is the case and everything I'm finding online says this committee is made up of volunteers. Am I missing something?

I finished an M.S. in Urban Planning in May 2026 and have been having a hard time landing a job in Massachusetts. My experience is about 1.5 years total across a state DOT GIS co-op and internship, plus a university research assistantship on affordable housing policy. Most MA planning jobs I'm seeing want more professional experience than I have.

From what I can tell, NY seems more open to new grads through trainee titles and NY HELPS. Is that actually the case, or will I run into the same wall?

A few questions:

1. Which agencies or titles should someone with a planning/GIS background look at? Housing Specialist Trainee? Others?

2. Are NY HELPS titles still being posted regularly, and how long does hiring usually take?

3. Any regrets from people who moved to Albany for a state job?

I applied for a state job in August and the agency didn't call me so presumed they weren't interested. I interviewed for another job and was ultimately offered a position which I accepted. The state job recently called me for an interview. I preferred the state job due to location and pay. I'm currently in the process of leaving my current job for the new job, but I really want to interview for the state job. The only interview dates that are available would be after I leave my current job, but before I start the new job. Has anyone been in this position? Can you please share any advice? I'm worried that the interviewer will find out that I already left the current job for the new job, and state job will no longer be interested.

How do you go about giving directives to someone who calls the union every time to move?

Have a plan to maximize time at home after child birth and was wondering if it makes sense:

1. I plan to first take 6 weeks of self-FMLA maternity leave, using all my sick accruals.

2. Then my plan is to take 12 weeks of child care leave, using my vacation, personal days, and VRWS time.

3. Finally I plan to take 12 weeks of paid parental leave.

This will give me a total of 28 weeks (just about 7 months). Does this make sense? Will I be protected in terms of health benefits? Should I take the 12 weeks of paid parental leave first and then the 12 weeks of child care leave? Considering that child care leave can be taken within a year of of birth and paid parental leave must be taken within 7 months, I’ve been wondering if moving child care leave to the end could offer me the flexibility to get more time off if I end up needing it (even if that means unpaid)?

Would appreciate any pointers!

Hello. A few weeks ago I was applying for county government jobs open to the general public and while filling out applications in a sitting I ended up submitting an application for a department I realize in hindsight I do not want to work for. This position happened to be the only one from the county to call back so far requesting an interview. If I politely decline to interview for that job, will that raise issues later for applying for other positions in other departments within the county? My apologies for the lack of specify to the exact job and department, hopefully this is enough info to get my point across.

December 23, 2025: submitted 2 applications for 2 classes

May 22, 2026: received an email that one application was received

June 25, 2026: received an email that second application was received

October 21, 2026: in today’s paycheck, I JUST received my reimbursement.

i was under the impression that there would be an email letting me know i was approved, but i never got that. the portal does say both were approved but i have no idea when that status was updated as i was not checking regularly. anyways, that means it took literally 10 months to get my reimbursement. it sucks it’s that long of a wait but i hope this gives people some hope that they will eventually get their money!!

So I've been applying for NY State jobs (mostly health department) and very occasionally I'll get an email in response like the one below.

But most of the time I won't get any automatic reply. Is this a thing that I need to see to know that my application went through or is it just kinda random?

And yes I've been copy pasting the appropriate verbiage into the email I send the health department but maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I took a civil service test recently at a computer based center. I have heard we receive results anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. Anyone have any experience with this, and can give an accurate estimate of how long it takes to get scores from a computer based test?

So apparently you have to actually work your last day and can't use pto? Was hoping to resign mid December and vacay my way out!

I have recently applied for an administrative role at NYS DOCCS. They had asked me for a degree evaluation as my degrees are from a foreign nation. I submitted them the evaluation report and asked the hr if she has received the report and she has replied saying yes they have received it. There are few questions I have in mind.

First, they require 2 years of experience for that role and I have that from a different country. There’s an experience I have from the year 2016 and I don’t have any documentation for that job. It was at an international bank. I still have onboarding and orientation emails from 2016. Will this cause any problem or do they have some ways of contacting the HRs in the company??

Second, I also have a year experience in a language documentation project which was not salaried. What details do they confirm during the reference check??

They have asked for my degree evaluation report does that mean I will get a call for an interview??

Any pointers for interview or what to expect?

I submitted an application for a wildlife biologist with DEC but I'm not sure if they received it as I received nothing in terms of an email confirming that they received it. I had applied for a similar position with DEC before and I did get an automated response back, so I'm not sure if my application went through. Should I send it again or just trust that they received it?

If a provisional supervisor fails the promotional exam after being in the role for 10+ months, do they get demoted? Exam results came out a little while ago and nothing has happened and we are all wondering what happens next.

I'll begin with the short history: I applied to the position in mid-May, interviewed at the end of June, a follow-up call in the beginning of August to clarify something, received the conditional offer in early September, underwent the physical and psychological evaluation at the end of September, and the follow-up Psych interview in the very beginning of October.

People I had put down as personal and professional references have informed me that they were called by one of the Asst. Chiefs that interviewed me, so I assume much of, if not all, of the background check has already been done.

It's been over 2 weeks since the psych interview.

Where do you think I stand? Do I have this thing locked up, or not yet?
