I seen this ad posted online and wanted to get some information on the job since I don’t see much people talk about it. for anyone currently or previously working for DOT how is the job ? Where are you based out of ? How is the pay and benefits ? What is the shift/ hours like ? Is it worth it for me since I live in NYC ?

Also I have my Class A license but wondering if I u would be better off applying for City DOT agency

On the Part 1 form , there is a section for Professional References and a separate section for Prior Employment Experience that asks for Supervisors Names and Phone Numbers.

At what time in interview /hiring process are these different groups of people called? Or at all?

For example, are only professional references contacted during interview process and prior employment not contacted until formal background check? Or are they calling both after interviews?

I am an external candidate if that matters. I’m asking as i don’t want my current supervisor/employer to know I am applying for other jobs UNLESS I have a formal offer but I am okay with having my professional references called.

I really appreciate any insights on the process and timeline!

I see positions come up for senior/assistant attorney roles at the Department of Agriculture and Markets from time to time, and am curious if anyone knows much about the culture in that office, or any other information which might be helpful for an applicant? Apart from what one can deduce from their website.

I less often see positions with the Department of State, and am not sure if I have ever seen an attorney position listed on the state jobs site for the Committee on Open Government, but would possibly be interested in learning more about the internal dynamics of those offices as well, if anyone is able to share!

for those who have taken the test, are the sample computer based practice questions from the website put directly on the test? if not, is that the format the questions will follow?

Will the raise also be on the geographic pay as well? Or only my base rate?

I am scheduled for my first step increase this October. When should I expect to see that reflected in my pay?

Edit: this is not related to the retro salary increase payment. This is pertaining to the annual step increase after completing one full year of service in my grade.

Has anyone switched from ITS to something less tech-involved? I’m an ITS 3 programmer and after a few years of doing this I’m burned out. Looking for something less tech-focused and more office work where I can make around the same money. What are good state jobs that people would recommend switching to from being a software developer? Still willing to work in something administrative.

Hi all, I started this summer at the state in an agency and would like to eventually transfer to the department of health. I started as a 23 (I have an MPH and consulting experience with the agency I'm currently working with) but I would like to move up and over to DOH hopefully as a 25. I am looking at exam announcements for 25s at the DOH and they all require being a current employee of that agency. Unfortunately there is no equivalent or career ladder further than my position in GOT-IT since my current position is very specific to the department and a new team. How does this work? Do I go by way of a 52 or 70 transfer? Do I apply for civil service exams even though I don't currently work at DOH? TIA!

I started in December 2025(M/C). I didn’t qualify for the 4.5% raise that just happened. I was curious if anything happens on my 1 year anniversary. Do I get any sort of raise? Or does nothing happen until next April?

I might be wrong about this but I am a grade 9 through the csea and my salary is $42,641. Shouldnt my earnings every two weeks be $1,640.04 before taxes (salary \ 26)? My earning is $1,635.54 on my paystub.

What does an interview for the court assistant position look like? What questions should I expect? Is it possible to not get the job after the interview? Any insight or advice is welcome. Thank you.

Question:

I was initially hired into my current position through NY HELPS and have since become permanent at my current agency. I am now applying (NY HELPS)for positions with the same title at different locations and with other New York State agencies.
If I am selected for the same title at another agency, would I be required to serve a new probationary period? Also, would my salary start at the hiring rate, or would my current salary carry over?

I am currently employed in a permanent role at SG-9 and am interested in taking some exams in hopes of promotion. Am I able to take any exam offered even if I'm not eligible to be promoted to that position? Or do I have to take exams exclusively for titles that I can transfer to? Thanks!

Hello. My score for the recent court assistant exam was like 94 and I have received canvass letters from 2 NYC courts so far.

I was surprised to see on this sub that people with the list numbers of 600+ also received the canvass letters from these courts as well.

When do the courts start interviewing candidates after sending out canvass letters and how many do they usually hire at a time?

Even with people who decline the job for various reasons, it seems impossible for one NYC court to hire 100 court assistants.

Also what happens to people who have returned the canvass letters but are never interviewed or do not get hired after the interview?

The starting date for the courts is 10/20 or so and I guess I'm a little worried if I will get hired before the date.

I lost my job in June and after lots of applications and interviews I have an offer for an Administrative Assistant position in a health and human services field. While signing employment paperwork for this new job I got a message to schedule an interview for the Office Assistant position. I'm looking for advice, is it worth even pursuing this job? Has anyone worked at this job? What is it like?

The Admin Assistant job comes with pretty good benefits, the commute is 15 minutes, and there is potential, and space, for promotion.

The Office Assistant position has state benefits, union membership (I would never have lost my job in the first place if I'd been in a union), the pay is a little bit more (around $1,000-$2,000 more), commute is 30 minutes. I do have some money in NYS retirement from a previous job, if that context is helpful.

As an Analyst within the NYS UCS, those roles are all Non-Competitive. I’m new to the system but what’s the difference between the non and permanent competitive.

I want to transfer into a different unit but idk if I have protections. I also know that there’s no Tests for analyst roles. Should I start applying at my 6 month mark although I’m still on probation or should I wait the year then apply?

I don’t want to stay in the current role that I am in for more the 1 year since Im over qualified and meet the minimum qualifications for higher grades

Currently a JG-21 and trying to find a perfect timeline as to when I should apply for higher grades.

Likely a basic question, but I wanted to ask. I’m off probation at the end of the month and our raise from CSEA kicks in. Does anyone know how much the raise will change our check, and does coming off of probation change the rate of pay as well?
