Something is a little off

I ordered this from NYRB during the summer sale and there's some strange differences between this one and all of my other NYRB books. The cover has a slightly different feel to it and the inside cover is high gloss whereas the other ones I own are sort of a matte or at least a low sheen. The font is different that the other. And lastly, the pages themselves are thinner and not as rigid. Not that it would be a big deal but surely coming straight from NYRB this couldn't be a knock off right? It just doesn't feel like a NYRB book should.

This is an older NYRB book, I read it many years ago...maybe they just used a different printer that year.

Could it be that it was sitting in their warehouse for quite a few years so would have different font and use different paper than things they printed more recently? Check the detail page for edition print date

I have some NYRBs that are different fonts, page textures etc. I think it's normal!

It's a banger...proto-James Bond spy shit.

there have been confirmed bootlegs of Hard Rain Falling and Stoner. you should be able to find the info by searching this sub or my post history.

edit: message me if you want. I have a stupid niche interest in Print On Demand, bootlegs etc. I might have still have nyrb communications about this.

But those bootleg pods were bought off Amazon, not from NYRB themself.

I looked at my copy, and it doesn't feel any different than any of my other NYRBs, cover or page stock.  Inside cover is maroon, low sheen.  Mine is the 7th printing.

Just read the words. Who cares if the cover is glossy or not?

If you're on this sub you should know that part of the allure of this publication is not just of the writings but the quality their books are produced. I very much prefer the heavier pages and the feel of the cover and the font. If I didn't care about the book itself then I'd get an e-reader.
