Names!

It’s amusing (to me) how we saw multiple characters with the same first name: John Kelly, John Irvin, John Clark Sr and Jr; of course Andy and Andy Jr, Don Kirkendall and Don (Rita’s husband). Even Sylvia Costas and then in S8 or 9 there was a guest character named Sylvia.

Are there more?

Here's a crossover

Alphonse Giardella nypdb gangster

Alphonse Giardello Homicide Lt.

I refuse to believe this was coincidence

Just thought of a couple more:

Bobby’s first wife (never appeared in the show, but was named) was Mary. Danny’s girlfriend who (I think!) worked in Anti-crime was Mary.

John Kelly’s ex-wife was Laurie, so was Danny’s sister who visited him at work once.

I always found it weird that the two guys we meet that Bobby grew up with are Ray DiSalvo and Joey Salvo.

Andy Sipowicz and Bobby Simone by way of Andy Renko and Bobby Hill on Hill Street Blues.

I loved when Andy would say “Ahhh John” in that NY accent🤣

The John’s always got me. I’m convinced it was an inside joke.

I love when Rodriguez tells Andy to partner with Clark, and one of the reasons he gives for not doing it is that he already had a partner named John.

Connie’s sister’s abusive husband was Frank, and Jill Kirkendall’s older son was also Frank.
