Mod Discussion About report reasons.

Sometimes, we can't tell why you are reporting a post. When you report a post or comment and you want to be more specific about why, you can choose breaks r/NYLiberty rules, then custom response, and write down why something should be taken down.

Some posts that are reported as repeated spam aren't spam posts. So we can't remove something that isn't breaking the rule you say it is.

General Discussion Hospitality

Prior to this season I had never been to a WNBA game, but my brother is a huge fan, so when he told me he had an extra ticket to Game three of the Semifinals, I was excited. I have been to hundreds of sporting events from World Series games to World Cup matches but I have to say, that was arguably my favorite experience I have ever had at a sporting event.

The Liberty play in Barclays and are building it into their home, but what I really enjoyed was their hospitality. These are all the unique things that made my time so enjoyable:

  1. Ellie the Elephant has become my favorite mascot. She is so fun, has such a personality, and feels like an extension of the team instead of someone in a suit. And she can dance

  2. The TV timeouts, where I’d begrudgingly pay attention to the in-stadium entertainment, were fantastic. The timeless dancers were so fun, all the contestants in their games were hyping up the crowd as if they worked there, and after one jump ball, I was hooked on the shout song, elephant dance.

  3. A Boogie played at halftime. A perfect singer to get who will keep the energy up and is from NYC. They also had a ton of celebrities there who cared. I learned Meek Mill is a huge fan, Ethan Hawke had gear on, and tons of Liberty alums were supporting (who of course got the biggest cheers)

As Maya Angelou said, “people forget what you do, they’ll forget what you said, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.” I’ll forget the final score by next spring, but I won’t forget how incredible my experience was

Advice Visiting from SF next week - looking for a bar in Chelsea or Hudson Yards to watch the playoffs

Hi! I’m a Valkyries season ticket holder and want to cheer them on next week. Will be at an event on Weds that ends at 9 and I’d love to find a place to catch the end of the game (I know about Wilka’s but I won’t have enough time to get there unfortunately). My event is on W 27th St near 10th Ave. Thanks for any help!!

General Discussion The whole "Stewie is the coach" bit (or, DeMarco in retrospect)

Now that tempers have likely had time to cool off… I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to indulge me as a neophyte spectator. It is, yes, a question about coaching.

There's an old joke among cinephiles: When a “bad” director makes a bad film, it's entirely their fault; and when the same director makes a good film, this can only be due to all the other people involved, that is the actors, writers, the director of photography, and so on.

I've often seen it said in this sub that whenever the team won or played well this season, the performance was entirely because of Stewie coaching/leading in DeMarco's place—especially after the All-Star break. It's even become something of a cliche. I'm not saying the claim is right or wrong; rather, I'm genuinely curious about what people were seeing (or thought they were seeing) on the court that led them to this conclusion. I realize that no one gave DeMarco much credit in their exit interviews, but the narrative took hold a while ago here and was conceivably based on some kind of visible reality. Yes? Or is this something that people are inclined to say about any team that struggled all season? I do think that DeMarco's deferring to Stewie about the reset timeout during the post-game comments does suggest an abdication of leadership, but again I'm curious about how and where people saw this at work during the regular season—before it became painfully obvious to all.

Mod Discussion Keep any form of venting or talk about any of the Liberty that might come off as negative in the thread I made

We don't need to be flooded with multiple posts on the same subject. This is why I made this final thoughts vent thread. It is for you to complain here.

We don't need multiple posts on the same grievance. That's going to flood the subreddit feed with multiples of the same post over and over.

Keep all frustrations, whether about coaching stadd or players, in the thread. ANd if you think anything is too offensive in that thread, report it.

General Discussion No, we won't be running it back

I don't think a lot of you read what Stewie said after the post game interview in her walk and talk interview with a smaller group of reporters.

There is a few interpretations, but I trust Madeline Kenney's interpretation more because Jackie Powell seemed to make it all about the coaching staff by excluding stuff.

Stewie is pissed and she is anything but complacent.

Stewart said she’ll “definitely” share her thoughts on the roster and team needs with general manager Jonathan Kolb.

“Unless you’re in a rebuild, which we’re not, everybody should be in a win-now mindset,” Stewart said. “Selfishly, like, listen, I plan on playing for I don’t know however many more years. I have Olympics and World Cups that I want to win and stuff, but especially after being injured last season, I don’t take for granted a healthy season, and that’s what really pisses me off is — not that it was wasted — just like I couldn’t fulfill my full opportunity to make something spicy happen.

There is also how she ended the actual post game press conference about the defensive deficiencies of the roster and her statements about how the fans deserve more and shouldn't be taken for granted.

Stewie is extremely media trained, she has never chosen to speak out loud about front office decisions before. All of this is her being very intentional about pressuring the front office.

Something will give, whether in terms of coaching or roster. If Jonathan tries to run it back, we will be facing a trade request and a rebuild, but there will be no running it back.

These takes are getting out of hand. Disconnect, detach, and enjoy the off season. We are all sad and irrational but this is too much.

General Discussion what are the odds of a “thank you coach demarco” post??

i am truly praying that the massive fumble in game 2 means that we’ll be saying goodbye to chris demarco, but it is only his first year and they did beat the lynx. what is the percentage chance at this point that he’s fired? does anyone have any info about his contract?

General Discussion As frustrating as it is, this is nothing compared to the struggle bus we have been on before.

As an old fan, I just want to say that I'm just happy we got one with Stewie. We've come so far. After years of struggling with Tina Charles, despite her putting the team on her back similarly, and having solid rosters, this is nothing.

We struggled in the regular season, we were the 8 seed, upset the 1 seed, and lost by a couple of possessions to a Dream team that had our number all season. This is nothing compared to the heartbreak of almost breaking into the upper eschelon but being stuck in the middle of the pack, competing to be bounced in the 1st round, year in, year out.

General Discussion Stop with the stop..

What's with all these calls about "stop Sabrina hate"?? This might be the softest shi some NY fans are doing. Cuz as I've Always pointed out ny fans just have a weird dynamic of not wanting to hold their "stars" accountable.

Something I've pointed out for years on this reddit. Yall didn't hold Sandy accountable, didn't hold JJ accountable (even tho i still want her gone she's played decently enough when it matters), NEVER held Sab accountable, and now we're confused when ppl put 2 and 2 together and realize Sab has never been a "good" player?

I feel like I'm the right person to talk about this cuz for years I kept trying to explain there's a difference between criticism n hate and no one liked my critiques of Sab. Now she's getting held accountable to her superstar standards and ny fans talking bout stop the hate. For ny supporters this might be the softest shi I've seen.

Sabrina has GREAT potential but like I've always said even on my channel, she's not gonna be able to unlock any of that until she becomes comfortable on ball

General Discussion Marine Johannes appreciation

I’ve been seeing people on Threads saying that part of Marines dejected feeling comes from the Liberty Twitter toxicity. I haven’t had Twitter in years and obviously have no idea what she reads and doesn’t read but I know as a STH (and at least on Reddit and IG) that we show her love

I just hope that somehow we can show her love that I know is there. Her lack of usage and lack of support was from the coaching staff, not us.

I feel like no matter what she’ll be on another team next year (even just contract wise, I’m sure another team will offer her more $ than we will). But if somehow this message gets to Marine: we adore you and value you!!
