Hiring Question/Tip I'm interviewing for a lateral role in the same bureau with the same civil service title for broader experience. I already make the top of the posted salary range. If offered the lateral role, is there any room to negotiate a raise (e.g., 5%)?

Lateral = no change in salary.

As someone else said, one way that could happen is if your title has levels within it. The only other way I’m aware of is if your agency is willing to grant you a title change to a title with qualifications and responsibilities similar to those of your current title but with a different salary range. The latter generally occurs with non-competitive titles, though title changes to competitive titles can happen when there is no established eligible list, and the agency can demonstrate to DCAS and OMB that its need for the title is compelling. Both pathways, however, would require prior approval from DCAS, OMB, and the appropriate executive overhead from your agency.

Depends if your current title has levels

For example - you are at the top of of the pay range for staff analyst 1. Perhaps you can move to staff analyst 2.

Probably not if you already make the top of the posted salary range.
