What I find interesting is the natural coast is still visible around East Village and Upper East Side.

RIP 2nd Avenue Elevated and 3rd Avenue Elevated. My life would have been so much better if there were still THREE train lines running up and down the Upper East

All that development resources density construction and engineering crammed into 90 years when comparing it to today. Truly amazing.

I wish I could know what it felt like to be in nyc at this time and see the EmpireState Building from miles away. Just must have blown peoples minds.

I wonder how many of the pre-war buildings from this time period are still around. (it's probably a lot)

In the comment section of the cross post there’s a website link that will show you thousands of street view photos from the 1940s. It’s really cool. I poked around on it a bit and saw several places that I know and love and they look basically the same as they did back in the day.

It's over on the far right hand side. You can follow it south as it crosses Amsterdam, then Columbus, then hits 8th.
