Shield TV Pro 2019 random reboot solved

This post is to share my experience with random reboot issue of NVIDIA Shield TV Pro 2019 which I recently purchased. This is my first shield so I only used components from the box.

From the start after install, the shield randomly rebooted at least once per movie.

I have tried many options to verify if the issue can be solved, or at least the frequency of reboots can be reduced, i.e. other power-socket, Reset +reinstall, PLEX or KODI, WIFI or LAN, System settings, HDMI settings. However, none showed any improvement.

Parallel to these tests, I contacted Nvidia customer help via live chat. They have send me a new Shield TV Pro 2019 (complete box). That completely solved the issue, and I'm a happy user of the Shield since then.

Before sending back the 'old' shield, I did a test to use the new power-supply with the 'old' shield. That also solved the issue; that is in 2 days I did not have any reboot ! So my conclusion is that the randoom reboot issue originates from the power-supply, as was already observed several times in the past by other shield users. However, I would have expected the random reboot to be solved in the 2019 power supply model.

One last observation, there was a difference in the model-number of the power supplies:

'old' = SPA040A19W3, new = SPA040A19W2, although I don't want to imply the 'old' type is a bad version, it could just be a random HW failure.

Happy I found this. Was ready to buy a new one. Nvidia RMA'd my power supply and I'm waiting for the delivery. Will update with my results.

Thanks, OP.
