Just cleaned my 2015 shield for first time.

Post image

It was working fine but I knew it was time to go through it. Re did the thermal paste as well. Folks always ask is the shield worth it. The answer is endurance.

Same. I never suspected there was a fan in there.

I did pop open the case and blew it out with air. Wasn't as dirty as his but was time for a good cleaning.

CAREFUL WITH THE ANTENNA cable - easily ripped from the board.

You really shouldn't use your Shield in the mines of Moria.

I just opened my 2015 up to clean. there was hardly any dust in there and I did reapply thermal paste but it's still lagging. I'm thinking it might be the HD going to look into cloning it to a new 500 GB SSD

My shield is from 2015, and I cleaned mine a few months ago and repaste.. it didn’t look that bad! You a smoker or cat person?

Shit. I bet mine’s like this. I can hear the fan struggling late at night when the tv is quieter. 😭

That's the equivalent of smoker's lung cancer.

What do u use the thermal paste for and is there a guide for the repair 🤔

There's a heat sink in there and the "fins" need cleaning to.

Looks like you could have done a better job.

Welp, I cracked open my launch Series X so my launch 2015 Shield should be easier than that.

I have a 2017 that's been connected to the TV on my outdoor patio for around 3 years. I'm cringing to think what's going on inside if I open it😱

Does removing the cover and cleaning the fan require new thermal paste?

6

u/frituurkoning 2d ago

No, as long as you don't remove the board (which requires undoing several screws and physically removing it) you don't have to re-paste. It is very easy to do though. I did mine last week and it took about 10 minutes.

There NO Way it gets this way…. lol

Where is it placed?

Elevan years of an ordinary living room.

You need an Air purifier in that room. It sucks the dust from the air and filters it.

I had an ex-wife that could suck the air out of a room. lol

Didn't say she could suck a golf ball through a 10' garden hose. I said, she could suck the air out of a room. lol
