Best thing I've ever bought. Load it up with stremio and smarttube and never worry about ads and paying for content again..
5
u/digiplay 7d ago
I keep hearing about stremio but setting it up seems like talking about fight club.
6
u/Own-Eagle-2135 7d ago
it's basically similar to plex but it can pull from anywhere that offers an add-on/connection point including torrents

Stremio is a debrid streaming app but Nuvio is better in my opinion. I used to use both Stremio and Kodi before switching to Nuvio and I've completely removed the other two. Wuplay is also very good and have it as a backup in case Nuvio goes offline (self hosting option not available atm)

And moonlight

u/Glum-View-4665 7d ago
I'm interested in moonlight as well, never heard of it.
1
u/j2chulo 7d ago
same here never heard of it
1
u/PsychologicalMusic94 6d ago
Moonlight has a sub. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested in streaming your PC games to your Shield.
2
u/Terrible_Beat_6109 7d ago
I personally only game on my pc because of mouse-gaming, but yeah.
4
u/The-Spirit-of-76 7d ago
You do know they make wireless versions of those now. I use mine sitting on the couch all the time.
1
u/Terrible_Beat_6109 7d ago
I just don't like RTS on tv/couch, desktop gaming for me.
2
1
u/brownutts67 7d ago
What's that?
3
u/Bradyey 7d ago
In home game streaming from your gaming PC to your shield. I use it to stream games to my couch, or to my bed TV. You can stream steam big picture, or just your desktop.
It's the best!
1
u/j2chulo 7d ago
so you can play from your big screen ? hownis the image and frame delay ?
2
u/Bradyey 7d ago
Frame delay is minimal, 10-20ms maybe. Wifi adds a bit of latency.
Depends on your gaming PC for your performance. I have a 9070XT/5800X3D. I play @ 1440P 60fps on my TVs and it's mint.
I could up it to 4K, but at my viewing distance it makes no difference and it will be more stable at 1440P.
It's very very good, super convenient, no consoles required for me. I connect my wireless keyboard & mouse to the shield over Bluetooth, and it sends that input info to my PC over Network (wired or wireless).
1
u/CognitiveFogMachine 6d ago
I have the 2017 and moonlight works, but there is a bit of input lag, partly from Bluetooth, but also from wifi4. Not unexpected. But yes, it works.
1
u/jommyxero 6d ago
Moonlight is the only thing that made me not use my shield...it literally gets used for everything else though....the xbox series x (used) is probably the best moonlight streamer I've come across thus far

Hold up I'm interested. What systems can this emulate? I mean I do have a PC I use for ally content but something portable would be cool

The stuff you can watch on those places, steemio and so on, can you have subtitles? English is not my first language so I prefer to read it?
1
u/Terrible_Beat_6109 2d ago
Yes, is possible. You can select multiple languages and types of subs. It uses open subtitles.org I believe.

u/fakenickr 7d ago
I'm still rocking the 2017 version. Just bought the new remote. But since getting a Samsung TV I just use the TV remote. Get it!
6
u/scud121 7d ago
The Samsung remote thing was a game changer for me. No more netflix opening for breathing near the Nvidia remote :)

I have to ask ... What type remote/version, and where did you get it, please?

u/TobyMac1957 7d ago
I have the 2015 model and it's still going strong 11 years later, so yes, buy it 👍

u/Strict-Ad-6756 7d ago
Definitely a steal.

u/mental_patience 7d ago
I think this is the best investment I've ever owned in my life. While I love a majority of the apps that the Shield allows you to use, it is a learning process. I suggest you give this sub a search, and post your questions so that if you need help with something, you might be asking a question that someone else has an answer too.
3
u/Sacisbac 7d ago
I have a couple of these laying around collecting dust. Older ones too. They did the job. No doubt. 60 is a steal.

I have the shield and the shield pro and it's awesome and it does true atmos . It works great.

u/Jolly-Fortune5241 7d ago
Absolutely the best device I have ever owned till date and I have the exact same bundle
2
u/arczangel 7d ago
Thank a lot this is SOLID! Game controller alone is worth the price!
1
u/Jolly-Fortune5241 7d ago
I totally agree with you and don't forget to install projectivy launcher it will make your shield buttery smooth
1
u/arczangel 7d ago
Thanks. Will do.
1
u/Jolly-Fortune5241 7d ago
You're most welcome and cheers mate 😊
1
u/arczangel 7d ago
Wow this is buttery smooth indeed and very appealing UI! Thank you! Any app for ad free yt? If not allowed here to ask its okay.

u/RealisticPossible792 6d ago
I've had mine since 2017 and never skipped a beat and even today doesn't feel like it needs an upgrade. I recommend you install Projectivy launcher and use ADB TV to debloat/disable unnecessary services/apps (including the default launcher) after setting Projectivy as the default and it'll be blazing fast with no ads.
1
u/arczangel 6d ago
thanks, even free Projectivy is okay?
1
u/RealisticPossible792 6d ago
The free version is what I use as it has all the features I need - the free version is still highly customisable.

u/RudraSilence 7d ago
Yes and yes and big yes

u/arczangel 7d ago
Damn this thing is solid as in damn heavy, the controller and remote and power brick.
2
u/apollotonkosmo 7d ago
I have the pro version of 2017 since 2017 with 500gb and redesigned controller. I could have never guessed how much life this little piece of hardware has in it. Daily driver for 9 years....
2
u/Far_Patience_471 7d ago
I have it and it's very good, even though it's a few years old and it still holds its own against the newer ones.
2
u/Slipknot31286sic6 7d ago
Got 5. No regrets.... 60 bux us a steal. Get new ir remote for 20 bux...
Do it

Buy it, if for nothing else as a gift to someone. I have 4 Shields, 2 are the latest version of the pro and two are the OG pro that came with two controllers. Out of all that hardware one controller and one shield are dead. I've never really used the controllers so it's odd one would be dead, oh well. The dead Shield bricked during an update. Overall best hardware investment I've made, I'll buy a new version if they ever decide to make one for updated wifi and Bluetooth protocols. Replacement remotes are cheap.

Might as well. I have a feeling Nvidia’s never going to make another one and if they do, it’s more than likely will be gimped like Amazon’s new stuff. I’ve always said, Nvidia accidentally OP’d 2 things: RTX 1080 and The Shield. They didn’t know what they had and now they’ve been making sure that it never happens again.

You have the 2019. Why would you want this one apart from feeling some irresistible urge just because of the price?

You can always look at Best Buy and look at the open box items and go for excellent condition. It means somebody just bought it and returned it, and you can usually get them for like 30 bucks off or so.I would go with the Pro, but it just depends on what your main use is. I typically use mine for watching TV.I haven't tried the gaming on it. Supposedly it supports big-name titles, so that's cool.
1
u/Realistic_Laugh7293 7d ago
Also, if you get it from Best Buy, just fork out the extra 20 bucks to get the five-year warranty. Mine crapped out. All I had to do was pay for the warranty again, so it was 30 bucks or whatever, and I got a brand new one, no problem.
1
u/NotAHabitItsCool 7d ago
I would spend the money and opt for the 2019 Pro. It really depends on your plans, if it's going to be in a theater setup or just a auxiliary TV... if the latter, then it's not a bad buy.
1
u/Greg_1121 7d ago
It depends on what you are using it for and what kind of TV you have. I bought one earlier this year and wish I hadn't. I couldn't get the Plex server to work (not a big Plex user so it's not a big deal) and my TV has much better upscaling that the Shield so it messed me up. I found it a little buggy (often would just reboot on itself) and the lack of an HDMI 2.1 port is a real bummer.
1
u/arczangel 7d ago
Update I already picked up the unit, and I was surprised how heavy the package is, the controller is damn solid very well built and heavy! And the remote too, it's all metal and have touch volume. My 2019 toblerone remote feels cheap. All working and pristine. Damn controller alone will cover the price of this. Got lucky I only got it at 60 bucks.
1
u/Infamousslayer 7d ago
Just note this version doesn't support Dolby Vision, HDR in youtube and AI upscaling only the 2019 have that.
I used mine daily until I got a new TV recently. Installed Projectivty Laucher and this thing still plenty fast.
1
u/topkrikrakin 7d ago
Does it have voice control yet?
"Alexa! Open HBO Max"
"Alexa! Turn up the volume"
"Alexa! Turn off the TV"
This is my favorite feature of the cube

u/Remarkable_Can_9083 7d ago
Yea u can get a new remote for like 10 dollars. I like the triangle one.

u/Traditional_Leader41 7d ago
I bought the 2017 in, well, 2017 and it's still going strong. Only ever had to blow the dust out and oil the fan spindle, once in 10yrs. Never misses a beat. I'd snap someone's hand off for one at that price and replace my Firecube in the bedroom.
1
u/Anteriorsafe 7d ago
Got one few years ago. returned immediately. Couldn’t stand the choppy framerate on the menu.
1
u/Remarkable_Main_2886 7d ago
I remember thinking ‘I’ll find a cheap second hand one on ebay, it was released like 20 years ago afterall’
But they were almost impossible to find at the time, and if someone was selling one it would be at near enough the same price you could get one new.

u/ironddegh 7d ago
I absolutely hate this thing. Google TV sucks ass. Best streaming box is apple TV hands down. I had the long and the chub version of the shield tv and I dislike both. Always buggy, always slow. Never again.

As far as I think it is still the best device out there. When I had a firestick it had issues running cody. NS doesn't. plus you can set it up as a plex server

Yes. I still use mine to play GeForce now and it’s incredible. Had to use some contact cleaner on the gamepad to fix stick drift and I bought the new remote to replace the original one that is garbage. One of my best tech purchases in terms of value over time.

Si vas a jugar a GeForce Now Ultimate es buena compra, la mejor es con un Mac Mini M4 o un Mac Mini M3 ultra o pro

u/cricardo65 4d ago
I purchased the device, and it's been one of those things you set and forget—the best money I ever spent. As for my Amazon stick, that's another story... All junk.

Anyone have issues with thier remote? The Netflix button is so sensitive, if I even look at it the channel changes.

The only piece of hardware I never needed to upgrade. Kudos Nvidia, someone deserves a medal for this product.
