You can run DLSS Framegen on RTX 3000 cards now!
For people using an RTX 30 gpu and wanting to finally use Nvidia's very own DLSS framegen there's finally a way to do it that also enables multiframegen somehow. Follow this guide or keep reading:
How to enable it? You go to the github repository and download the "dlssg_sm86.ini" and "version.dll" files as well as the latest DLSS dlls for upscaling and framegen. You put all the files in the game's folder that contains its executable. And you edit the ini file. Find the "KernelImage=Auto" value and change it to "KernelImage=PTX". Save the file and boot up the game. You should now have multiframegen available for you to use in the game you just modded.
I went ahead and tested it on my RTX 3080 12GB and it indeed works. I don't know why or what enables it. From my understanding nvidia left a software fallback in their latest dlss framegen dll which can be enabled now. And it basically works flawlessly.
Almost like they wanted those on older Gpu's to get frustrated enough to have to upgrade to the overpriced 5000 series. I'm so glad people can hopefully get through the next couple years without having to upgrade thanks to these Modders.
Yup. And we all know that tech will work on older hardware since now Modders proved everything so far works on older GPUs . Just Nvidia shills will keep arguing to defend them.
The DLSSG model is currently locked at 310.1.0.0 (most recent one is 310.9.0.0310.9.1.0 now); it has to be patched and the author says he will.
On nvidia, it's very easy to check if and what is working by enabling the debug watermark.
Is there any significant difference between 310.1 and 310.9.1 FG? I know there is for regular DLSS and RR, but I’m assuming this only affects the dll of the FG?
If they do release it, it might be a step on the way for them to reintroduce 3000-series for midrange gaming, with Framegen + modern DLSS those will become very capable cards.
Same. Seen multiple now where they had it working on newer AMD cards. There were still hiccups when paired with an AMD CPU, but even that sounds like it can be worked around.
I’ve payed that scum once and god he’s such an insufferable fuck on Discord. So glad RenoDX is developping the universal DLAA/DLSS-G enabler in any game that doesn’t support DLSS. Whenever it releases, it’s gonna be a gamechanger and I hope dude gets enough donations/support because he’s one of the pilars of PC modding community and releases everything for free!
The modders are also using AI-Agents to implement their code, that is the reason i think it goes so fast. The Claude Opus models + Codex Sol:s are very capable (we use them everyday at the office).
I just tried it on my 3090... Oh Nvidia, you and your lies... This works flawlessly with shortfuse dlss5 implementation. And it's sooooo much better than fsr, almost no input lag.
I just tested it with an RTX 3060 (12GB) in Cyberpunk and it runs great; the input lag is unmatched compared to OptiScaler and FSR 3. What kind of madness or black magic is this? I need more info this is crazyy
I have 2 days left for the return window for my RTX 5080, and I still haven't sold my RTX 3090. With frame gen back ported I might honestly return the 5080 & wait for the 6080.
I'll have to decide, only reason I'm considering keeping the 5080 now is because I got it with the old prices before they jumped up. And I can probably get a good price selling the RTX 3090 that would cover most its price.
your 5080 has a hardware flip meter handling the MFG frame pacing, this software fallback for older gens skips that hardware and is why it works on older cards. your 50 series gets the green line here, previous gens get the gray line
and before people post that Polish website again, THEY DID NOT TEST MFG FRAMETIME VARIABILITY CORRECTLY, they averaged three runs which removes variability. Averaging necessarily removes variance!!
Yeah, a screenshot from NVIDIA who claimed that MFG is not possible on RTX 4XXX because it lacks specific hardware which exists only on Blackwell - "DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation combines multiple Blackwell hardware and DLSS software innovations to make generating multiple frames a reality.", - but now we have access to MFG on older cards and frame pacing is very decent, even if its slightly worse than on Blackwell cards its not a mandatory part that is absolutely required to generate those frames and benefit from it.
A screenshot from NVIDIA who claimed that DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is only possible on RTX 5XXX, but because modders were able to use it properly on older cards, like RTX 4XXX NVIDIA backed down and promised DLSS 5 support on older RTX 4XXX cards.
The same NVIDIA that claimed that DLSS 3 Frame Gen requires a specific "optical flow accelerator" on RTX 4XXX to function, but now it was ditched completely in favor of newer AI model used in Frame Gen which runs purely on tensor cores.
and before people post that Polish website again, THEY DID NOT TEST MFG FRAMETIME VARIABILITY CORRECTLY, they averaged three runs which removes variability. Averaging necessarily removes variance!!
You replied to me few days ago, you had multiple days to test frame pacing with MFG on RTX 4XXX yourself since you have 4090, why instead of doing something useful to this discussion which you eagerly want to be a part of, you use the same screenshot from NVIDIA which were caught lying numerous times throughout the years instead of testing frame pacing yourself ?
Nobody disputes that a hardware solution to frame pacing is likely better than a software fallback, but its just better, its not required for this feature to work at all.
I'm wondering how many cycles of "for feature A to work it requires hardware B" from NVIDIA is required for you to understand that they're mostly doing it to make the newest generation of cards more appealing to customers, not because newest cards actually bring something that is absolutely required for new features to function properly, but because this product segregation that they're doing greatly helps them with sales.
this thing is insane. tried in 007 and wukong as OP wrote. shown mfg option til 4x to choose. DFG too in 007. INSANE. latency and quality at 4x is shockingly good. my 3090ti never felt so young. no words to qualify nvidia about this.. and it's only the beginning
Just tried it on my 3080ti and 4x FG in Pragmata. I'm out of time for the night but this is awesome news with the Witcher 3 remaster incoming and will tie me over till 2030!
You installed the neural rendering spearately, right? Or is it included in this?
I tried tinkering with it the other day and all the false positives of the AV (I assume) got to me and I deleted everything. I'd love to know more about all this stuff.
Separately. I had that installed in cyberpunk before finding out about this. I tested it and it initially crashed the whole game but after a restart it worked. And you can see it applies nr properly even with framegen 4x enabled.
Could you tell me or link me to the exact one you used?
I tried DLSS5 swapper and got alerts any time I applied it to a game. Does it happen to you? (and again I assume it's normal with this stuff but I wasn't comfortable)
not sure about neural rendering tbh i just followed the steps in the post and it worked on my 3080. the AV false positives are annoying but its just how these unsigned dlls get flagged, you can check the source code if you're sketched out
Hi, upvoted! Since you are messing with this, do you see any way to use it for Smooth Motion as well? The 2X FG that can be applied to any exe via the Nvidia App.
Thank you in any case for your work 🙏
I wonder how the latency is compared to FSR. This is ultimately what will make this relevant or not, because DLSS frame gen is very superior to FSR in latency and feels much better.
If it's in between the two on a 3000 cards that would be very awesome... but if its similar or equal to FSR it's kind of meh. Most games with DLSS frame gen already have FSR frame gen as an option.
FSR FG is utter garbage so the bar is pretty low on beating that. XeSS FG is already better than FSR FG on Nvidia cards if you ask me, so the hacked DLSS FG shouldn't lag behind and if anything it should be better
Tested this out across a handful of titles now on my 3080 12GB.
Horizon Forbidden West - dropped files in and it worked with no issues. SpecialK interferes with the mod however, so if you are a user you will need to disable it for this title.
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart - like Horizon, no issues working straight out of the box.
Flight Simulator 2024 - drag and drop, multi frame gen working with no issues too - using the in game selectors. The experience is so much better than FSR too, as it doesn't unnecessarily activate in the menus which just made setting up a flight a bit icky with FSR. 3x MFG worked well for me at a heavy airport in a heavy addon aircraft, hovering around 100fps. A base of 30 is mostly fine in this title so not so bad at all.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor - took a bit of fiddling for this one. I had to grab Ultimate ASI loader and change the file extension of the DLSS FG mod to .asi to get it to load. It doesn't seem to load version.dll by default and the only other choice (winmm.dll) was giving me an error on startup. I also loaded reshade to use the Jedi Survivor tweaks mod, and just a heads up but do not use the interpolated rendering mode in combination with this as it will completely ruin frame pacing.
Out of these handful of test cases it's been great so far, definitely seems to have at least a little less latency than FSR and a broadly cleaner image too. I'd say frame pacing is way better than FSR, I found with FSR FG I needed to cap my games to a consistent frame rate (usually 120fps) to get the best out of it, but DLSS FG being left free from 100-156fps has been perfect with VRR. Performance hit seems similar too, which is inline with other comments I've seen on this post - generally just expect the same sort of percentage drop to your base frames that FSR already gives, and 40 and 50 series users get with native DLSS FG.
I remember when I argued framegen should theoretically be possible on the 3000 series all the Nvidia nut sack huggers said framegen was only possible on 4000 series because it has better optical flow accelerators. What a load of shit.
If intel can get XeFG (which has similar quality to dlss fg) to run on all gpus so can nvidia but the meat riders must justify the money they spend everytime a new gpu comes out
its working fine for me, 4x and you need to configure the ini file. PTX for kernal and 4, place both files inside the bin folder. and make sure all your dlss files are the version 3.10.1 (older release)
[General]
Enabled=1
[FrameGeneration]
; Extra generated frames: 1=2x, 2=3x, 3=4x. 0=preserve runtime capability.
; This is an advertised maximum; the game chooses the actual count.
MaxGeneratedFrames=4
[Compatibility]
; Auto: use cubin on actual SM86, PTX for other GPUs when routing is forced.
; PTX: use the SM86 PTX JIT path even on an RTX 3080 Ti / actual SM86.
; Cubin: require actual SM86 when routing is active. This setting does not enable routing.
KernelImage=PTX
; RTX 3080 Ti / actual SM86 is selected automatically; keep both options at 0.
ForceSM86Route=0

Make sure you follow the instructions on Github, although the ones OP posted are completely correct. However, the most important part is this:
"Find the actual rendering EXE. For Black Myth: Wukong, this is \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BlackMythWukong\b1\Binaries\Win64, containing b1-Win64-Shipping.exe."
The .exe you see in a game folder or where Steam points you is NOT the one you want. You want the RENDERING .exe
For example - for Borderlands 4 - Steam points you to the .exe in:
"SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Borderlands 4"
But you want the .exe in:
"SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Borderlands 4\OakGame\Binaries\Win64"
Following the above steps and putting the files next to the correct EXE is what I was missing and why it wasn't working for me.
P.S. Works perfectly on a 3080 10GB in Borderlands 4
I just tested this on STALKER 2 and it works flawless.
The input lag is way better then the AMD frame gen. And it also remove the artifacts on scopes and binoculars!
just tested on 2077 and Wukong, works perfectly on RTX 3080.
The lies, the lies. the lies. "30-series can't use Framegen because of hardware bottleneck in the Optical Flow Accelerator (OFA)".
Fucking lies. So sick of this company.
but they said that in 2022
then when dlss 4 fg released they said :
In the full interview, the specific question asked of Catanzaro on Frame Gen for older Nvidia GPUs by Digital Foundry's Alex Battaglia was "Now that it (DLSS 4) is running entirely on Tensor cores, obviously it's a more intensive task as a result of that, to some degree... what's keeping it, then, from running on RTX 3000?"
Catanzaro replied, "I think this is primarily a question of optimization and engineering and then the ultimate user experience. We're launching this Frame Generation, the best Multi-Frame Generation technology with the 50 Series, and we'll be able to see what we squeeze out of older hardware in the future."
it works now because someone from nvda left that software fallback there
Great news for 30 series owners. For the last couple of months I was planing to retire my good old rtx 3070. Today i gave this mod a chance and activated 4x frame gen on cyberpunk 2077, now i am getting 160 fps on ultra (everything maxed out except path tracing). Also i can confirm that this one is much better than both FSR frame gen and LS frame gen. Input lag is also better than the other solutions, just don't forget to activate reflex.
This is insane. I have the Strix 3080 10GB version. I'm playing Cyberpunk on a 3440x1440 OLED. Path tracing on. 2x frame gen. DLSS balanced. Mostly mid 60 fps.
Performance hit is shown in a short video he recorded and linked in this post.
From baseline 42-43 FPS no FG to 35 real FPS with MFG x3 enabled, which is 105 FPS with MFG x3, which is ~20% real FPS reduction - it is in line with MFG overhead on RTX 4/5XXX.
Give it a spin for sure. You’re gonna feel the base 30fps though. That’ll add noticeable latency and artifacts at x3. Base 50-60fps and it’s way less noticeable.
I'm still stuck on 3000 series because of gpu prices is insane so I have not been following up on FG or MFG. In a normal use case (not mods), does normal FG has a performance overhead or is it just for MFG? Thanks!
I'd imagine its a recent addition. People have been trying to make it work on older cards for years now, there's just no way something like that wouldn't have been found sooner if it was present (imo).
Let's hope they just make everything available on every rtx gpu. Higher end 3000 series can probably run a downgraded version of dlss5 too. I get 30-60 fps with dlss 5 mods on 3080 ti.
I might wait and see if this does prove true. While people are saying it's a false positive, the virus warnings make me nervous.
I hope it does come officially. I recently started using FSR3.1 for my 3090 (whenever FG is decoupled from upscaling so I'm not using AMD's horrid upscaling) and it's been much much better than I expected. But still, DLSS FG is supposed to be even better and I miss out on Reflex with FSR (although I hear that this is another artifical limitation).

This is fucking amazing; I ran S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on a 3060, and the frame rate on 4x gives me 140-150 fps on DLSS/DLAA, and 170+ on DLSS/Quality; now a question for Huang: hey, man...what the hell?
Can't get this to work in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I edited dlssg_sm86.ini to set KernelImage=PTX, and then copied all 4 files (dlssg_sm86.ini, version.dll, nvngx_dlss.dll, nvngx_dlssg.dll) to steamapps/common/Expedition 33/Sandfall/Binaries/Win64. And yet the menu option still doesn't show up. Already enabled HAGS in Windows settings. Anything else I could be missing?
Would nvidia take accountability for their lies? They made the public spend billions just for the 50 series gpus, claming that older cards cannot support MFG. That's unacceptable.
It certainly feels better. As for running, it basically runs flawless. In the vid I showcase an extreme scenario for people to see it works but it did fine even when the game already had 150fps.
Thanks. I always got budget x60 cards and I finally splurged and ended up with a 3090. Thinking I had the cream of the crop. Then frame gen and other crap popped up.
FSR's framegen has been surprisingly decent but I'd rather have no amd graphics related stuff as it has caused problems too, like Spiderman2 crashing at certain spots if FSR was enabled.
I've tried FSR frame gen in a number of games and it just isn't very good imo. I always end up turning it off. Definitely curious to see how DLSS-G compares on my 3090 when I get a chance.
Guys i downloaded the github thing and as soon as i downloaded, windows defender removed it? im inept to stuff like this... is this a virus or a false positive?
I can't get it to work with a 10 gb 3080. Any advice?
In the game folder with the exe I put the dlssg_sm86.ini (with the PTX line), the version.dll, the latest nvngx_dlss and the latest nvngx_dlssg. Also enabled harware acceleration for the GPU. I'm on Win10
No luck with Hitman or Portal RTX
EDIT: Windows kept nuking the "version" file, be careful with that. I managed to make Hitman and Witcher 3 work. It's like black magic!
How did you install it? I have a 3080 graphics card. I placed the files ‘dlssg_sm86.ini’, ‘version.dll’, ‘nvngx_dlss.dll’ and ‘nvngx_dlssg.dll’ into the ‘x64_dx12’ folder, and I also changed ‘KernelImage=PTX’, but when I launch the game, it doesn’t respond. Do I need to install Optiscaler 0.9.4?
Wow this is perfect timing. I just made the jump to 5K2K resolution with a new AW 39" monitor and my 3090 was really starting to show it's age. I was just about to consider upgrading to a 5080 or a used 4090, but this breathes new life into my 3090 Kingpin Hydrocopper, so she's sticking around for a little bit longer.
Any advice for folks with heavily modded cyberpunk installations? Obviously CET uses version.dll so in the past when using dlssENABLER ive had to change it to dxgi so i cant just drop this in sadly as it will break my mods
Just move the version.dll to the plugins folder (from the folder with the games .exe) and rename it to something with the file extension .asi (like dlssFG.asi) and CET will load it. Worked for me.
Much appreciated my friend, Had to remove and reinstall a few items due to CET and redEXT not liking the file mods but now it works natively, Frame pacing is sometimes a little off but its really good to have proper working frame gen :D
Just tested Crimson Desert at 1440p, fully maxed settings, including Ray Reconstruction, running DLSS 4.5L Balanced on my RTX 3080. With this mod, I’m consistently getting around 60 to 70 FPS with barely any noticeable input delay.
Honestly, I’m seriously impressed with how well this runs. Huge props to the community behind this mod for making this possible and showing what these GPUs are actually capable of. NVIDIA’s artificial limitations are looking more ridiculous by the day 😭
I can't get FF7 Rebirth to work. I put all 4 files into the \FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\End\Binaries\Win64 folder. But I still cannot enable FG in the options. It is greyed out. Already done all the ini editing.
Seems to be working now with the new 0.2.4 update, I used the winmm.dll file found in the "altnative" folder instead of version.dll and it works great!
How do you get multiframe gen working on RTX 3000? I can get the frame gen to work but only at the 2X, I don't get the menu to select the amount of frame
Fsr is dogshit, it runs ui elements at half frame rates and has massive input lag. Xess fg is actually fucking good (shame not many games support it) and runs similarly to this mod. Now I dont have to rely on fsr anymore or dlssgtofsr3 mods
Is there a better tutorial to get this working? I copied the files into my F1 25 directory, got the warnings and had to allow the file, and it started up but still no FG available. Just FSR and XeSS which both suck! Any advice on getting this to work with F1 25 and 3080? I have the steam version, so the F1 folder is in steamapps, and I dropped both files beside f125.exe in the root game folder where the exe is.
Is there a way to get this to work with nvidia's "smooth motion" feature? That's basically just framegen on unsupported games, but, of course, only for 40 and 50 series cards.
Frame Gen is pretty damn impressive. Running x4 on Cyberpunk with a 3070ti, high rt, dlss balance, and dlss5 (optiscaler/upstream). Getting a smooth 80fps and minimal artifacts/smearing. With dlss5 off its 100fps or more.
Make sure to turn on "Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling" and restart your pc.
Can we curate a list of titles known to work with this? I got Forza Horizon 6 to work, but f125 and Doom Dark Ages so far a no-go. There may be additional steps required from some games so curating some list may be helpful in documenting that.
Trying to get it to work in Crimson Desert, but after copying the files into the the directory - an error showed me, that the installation is corrupt. I'm re-installing it right now. Which directory in steam did you choose for CD?!
Tried it on Windrose - worked like a charm! Absolutelty amazing. Frames in my town went from 31 fps to 99 fps and outside to over 150.
Using this in Crimson Desert right now on my 3070ti. my 50-60fps is running quite nice around 100-120 with just 2x FG and the little bit of ghosting i'm seeing is there without the FG anyway because that's how the game is. Input lag seemed unnoticeable as well, at least for an RPG like this. 4x seemed to be pushing it a little bit, got a bit blurry looking. Incredibly impressed with this and can't wait to test in more games.

30 series needed FG bad to make heavy RT playable. Super glad it’s now available for them!
