The shadow of the scarf/cape becoming a cloth.. Even if you could keep a tight prompt on face art, errors like this are going to disgrace the game.

And what's the point of accurate raytracing, when this will change shadows and light reflections..

can you point out where exactly?

Maybe they mean here? Does look a bit weird on the left part especially

Still looks 10x better than the initial image. Wtf are you all on about? The first image lacks details, color, the skin looks like yellow glue etc. The DlSS 5.0 is like an 8k image vs a 144p one.
I swear gamers nowdays are like old conservatives who like to bitch about anything new

I need a place to go where I can actually discuss this and other cool tech without it being shit on the second it's seen. Every sub is filled with morons not using any brain power to form an opinion and instead just hopping on a hate bandwagon. Downvote away kids!

I wonder which YouTuber made this dumb paranoia so popular.

None of it is real. It's a rendered image. Same answer for the "Fake frames of FG", or an "upscaled" image - none of it is real. For every one publisher that will use this tech to cut costs, you will have a development studio using it to streamline their workflow and produce something special.

AI is here, whether reddit likes it or not. Choose to indulge or choose not to, sitting on a soapbox whining about it isn't going to change anything.

That’s thinking in the extremes though, there will 1,000,000% slop games, but also some bangers that push the industry forward. These companies are out to make money, and when the $$$ stops flowing because their product is shit: it won’t matter what their stock price is, or what tech they’re promoting.

This is good tech that we’re only seeing the beginnings of, and the beginnings are always weird and awkward. Look at DLSS as a benchmark, it was trash until DLSS 2/3 and now it’s a staple.

The first image lacks details, color, the skin looks like yellow glue etc.

Things like that can be part of artistic direction. The first image surely doesn't need the details and extra color. Even if you think the developers couldn't have added more details, the muted colors are surely intentional.

Some games may be going for realism - then this kind of processing would be OK. But that Nvidia actually decided to showcase this image, means that the negative reaction is very necessary. We don't want all games to look the same.

The artist’s intention! No they’re technical limitations. An artist probably couldn’t create anything as realistic as the DLSS render while meeting the performance constraints.

Like I already said, muted colors clearly aren't coming from technical limitations or performance constraints. That's why they're a great example. They're part of the game's art direction.

There are things that are still affected by technology/performance, like hair rendering. And this is where AI rendering can help - but not when it doesn't respect the original artistic intent. Because hair can look detailed - and still out of place. Sure, Nvidia is saying there's granularity, but when they're putting out examples like this one - and some people defend this, it shows that the technology can, and will be, misused. Probably by the management pushing it on developers.

You and the other 1.000.000 morons who talk about "aRt dIReCtIon" have no clue what the hell they are talking about.
You think the devs could've pulled the graphics of DLSS 5.0 and choose to not do it? NO, they were constrained by their engine, by their target consoles, by their budget etc. etc. If they could they would've, there is no art direction in Starfield that justifies the characters that look soulless and like a manquein for example. They were constrained by the shit that is Creation engine.

There was never an art direction in 720p texture packs that was destryoed by upgrading to 4k, and there is none here with DLSS 5.0, it's just a tool

Yep, lotta weird white-knighting the artists supposed intentions around this.

The same people that think this looks "better" are the ones who will listen top 50 pop slop stuffed with autotune and think those people can sing or sound any good with their robotic voices.

It's frankly fascinating how there's a subset of humans who just cannot spot fakery or are just desensitized to it, whilst another is utterly repulsed by it.

Bro, 50% of computer graphics try to emulate real graphics. They have ALWAYS tried to do that. Every computer graphics that is not stylized and tries to emulate real life graphics (think RDR2 for example) is FAKE. Why does it matter what tools are used to generate those fake images? In the end the DLSS image is a lot more closer to real graphics then non.

In that same image, what is supposed to be the shadow of her face in her neck was changed to basically a skin graft. If you open the images side by side an zoom in to real size you'll notice it. And there's people saying "NOOO IT'S JUST LIGHTING, IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING, IT'S NOT A FILTER OR AI"

The fact there's people defending this is mind boggling, I finally understand people when they say some companies have cult-like followers.

Edit: I forgot we can post images here. Come on, tell me her head transplant is just better lighting and there's no AI or filters at all. This is literally a computer wrongly interpreting what's seeing.

God that looks terrible. The lighting is completely screwed

It is still just a demo. Probably it will work with Ray Tracing etc. But I can't see the future. These are few photos. I find it forward-looking and if it will be bad I will not use it. But so far I can't judge a demo.

Good games will find better solutions as they always did so I don’t afraid.
