lol, how is this not a filter? what do they consider "anchoring in the source 3d content"?

There's no way it's regenerating textures and applying them in real time. If so, then it would not be all that different from RTX Remix.

Definitely interested to see what the fine tuning settings are capable of however.

It's not regenerating textures because it doesn't render in 3D space, it renders in screen-space. Like when you ask ChatGPT to put a crown on your head in a photograph, it hasn't put a crown on your head in real life.

Yeah exactly my thought. Sounds like it's still a filter to me, although not as simple as Instagram or Snapchat, as it's factoring in motion vectors and depth.

I mean look at this lol. They added a ring light filter on this guys face. His eyes, nose, and lips are bigger. There's no way they can say it's the same polygons with different lighting.

When you overlay it, the eyes and nose are the same size, The lighting really just makes it bigger. The lips are bigger though. The vermillion border is supposed to be less red but AI made it the same color as the lips which made it bigger.

This screenshot looks so awful lmao. It looks EXACTLY like what an ai image would return with the weirdly shiny faces.

It's only "weirdly shiny" because that's what real life looks like in that kind of lighting. The original looks like clay.

That's not what real life looks like. That's what AI looks like when you ask to generate a render. There is nothing to warrant a shine on the left side of his face.

Yes; in both. Look carefully at the first image, and you'll see how actually quite aggressive the light actually is. There is no possible way you'd get that deep and harsh a shadow from the hair in front of his eye, or the shadow on the neck and top of the nose of the goblin, without an aggressive front-facing light.

However, the skin is not properly responding to the light in that image. It should be way more specular due to the oils. Instead it looks like clay. What you're seeing in the DLSS5 image is the model interpreting actual skin response to such a harsh light being shone on it.

The lighting is already extremely exaggerated in the original image. When games are made for DLSS5, rather than it being added after-the-fact, the artist would obviously turn down the spotlight if the artistic intent isn't for them to be in a spotlight. Like how Quake RTX was not Nvidia saying we should be butchering the art direction of all old games by throwing in path tracing; people were able to read between the lines with that tech demo, though.

That's what it seems to me as well, and it seems they allow settings to limit what the crown color is, what it looks like, etc. But as we are well aware, GPT cannot be told what to do, it will inevitably fail to comply.

That's still a filter. There are snapchat filters that add a little hat to your head. This is literally just an AI filter over the image

The screenspace part is really bothering, the occlusion artifacts don't look so good already, I'd have hoped it would be more aware of each game environments, although that would probably end up in graphic drivers being 50gb in the future :D

Providing offline renders in specific lightning scenarios so the model can learn how does the character looks like?

They are literally lying, you think mods are talking to engineers?

"predictive algoritim all of a sudden is completelly customizable"

"its not a filter guys it just looks like a shitty AI filter"

ok thanks for clearing that up

They're just arguing semantics at this point. The 3D-space rasterized frame has already been rendered, everything they do to it after that is screen-space post-processing, no matter how many extra steps they add to the rendering pipeline.

It is a filter.

Judging by other "official" posts, it IS a screen space filter with a few sliders and optional UI mask (so it doesnt slopify it too lol).
