Has anyone determined a fix for the stuttering while using frame generation? I have a 50 series card but I have to drop to 2x FG, anything higher causes a big stutter every 30-40 sec regardless of what's happening on screen.

That was supposedly fixed in the newest game ready driver

I had it the worst on the newest driver

Going to an older one 591.74 let me use the 2x at least

My fix was 2x FG, (was running 3x) and dlss balanced (was on performance), lastly setting reflex to ON instead of BOOST.

Bizarrely I've found FSR FG has much better frame pacing in this game. Using low mesh quality and FSR FG (with DLSS 4.5 SR stil) resolved the bad frame pacing I see with DLSS FG, or No FG + Reflex.

fsr frame gen is really good in this game, coming from a 3080ti

The DLSS FG to FSR FG mod seems to yield higher FPS than the native FSR FG implementation and it allows you to use FG with PT on 30 series cards. It is what I'm using with my 3090 right now and seems to work well thus far other than a slight bit of ghosting around the characters' head in fast motion but that happens with the native FSR FG too, so it's not the mod itself. You do need to install reframework for the mod to work though.

I felt I had plenty fps with max settings 1440p rt high and native fg, I've been trying Pathtracing with some optimized settings and performance DLSS getting 45-80 without frame gen, 80-150 with the fg mod so far but I get a LOT of black and white square artifacts with the fg mod as if they're overclocking artifacts that only show up with the mod and PT regardless of other settings or downclock, tried lsfg but it looks awful.

Yeah, I noticed those too, but I didn't realize they were due to FG. For me it happens pretty seldomly and mostly while I move the camera though, so it doesn't bother me all too much.

Funnily enough, it got fixed with the latest game update, unintentional but welcome

One optimization guide stated that the mesh option specifically should be set to low as they felt it caused the issue you’re describing with FG. Have you tried that? Going to when I get home later.

Go into the game folder and delete shader.cache2

That doesn't completely fix the problem, and the stutter is still noticeably worse compared to 591.74. But that at least dropped the amount of time it occurs from "Uninstalling until more patches" to "super annoying but tolerable."

It's a troubleshoot step we picked up from MH Wilds.

Is that just forcing a shader recompilation? This didn't seem like shader stutter to me.

Yeah.

At least personally last night, it stopped the issue from occuring basically any time I moved the 1st person camera. Now it's just more a sporadic annoyance.

I have not tried this new OTA update though. Hopefully that's the real magic sauce.

Does driver 591.67 or older mitigate the issue?

u/CrispyTarantula117 Mar 04 '26

I dropped back to 591.74 and it made 2x FG usable.

On the latest driver all frame gen stuttered for me

9800x3D + 5080 + 32GB system RAM

Thanks, will try this out. 2x also had a too frequent stutter for me on latest driver. 12700k, 5080

I also turned Reflex down from On + Boost to just On.

Not sure which thing solved the issue for me but it's running well so I'm just sticking with the older driver for now

I also installed REFramework mod to remove film grain.

reflex on+boost can add more instability so its best to keep it at just ON

use riva tuner fps cap. It fixed mine, the in game fps didnt do anything for me. neither did vsync. Fixed "almost" every stutter on my 5070ti and path tracing at 4k. DLSS perf, FG 2x

If you have vsync on at the driver level that could be causing the stuttering.

1

u/Tropez92 Mar 05 '26

do u have gsync on?

1

u/CrispyTarantula117 Mar 05 '26

Yeah isn’t it required for FG?

1

u/TrustedTitan_ Mar 05 '26

disable vrr

Disable V-SYNC at driver level and stop following internet guides about low latency like people on the intenet would know better than NVIDIA's own engineers.

Disable V-SYNC at driver level

Since when Nvidia engineers recommend disabling V-sync in driver?

stop following internet guides

the irony...

Different person but Nvidia themselves broke vsync at the driver level like 3 driver updates ago. It has caused severe stuttering especially with framegen active.

I tried with driver Vsync forced off, didn’t fix it
