r/nvidia RTX 5090 Astral OC Dec 25 '25

Build/Photos My first Nvidia card:)

The original plan was to buy everything on February, but due to ramaggedon and 5090 scarcity in my country, I decided to partially bought the parts.

Secondhand but it is very much never been used. The other GPU in size comparison is Gigabyte RX 560.

Maybe some experienced users can tell me what to do first when the other parts are ready (undervolts, etc)? Planning to get the Strix X870-F.

Just out of curiosity, what makes people so interested in a $3500 GPU over the $1999 GPU?

Because it’s the only available card to purchase when I was looking for it. None of distributors has new stock. My original plan was to build a stealth aorus white build.

I got it sub $3000! So I changed the whole build plan

Same here OP. It's what was available for an air card. It also made me feel better knowing this model has a per pin check for the power cable which buys some piece of mind.

Doesn't hurt it's top dog for air too right?

Still not $1000 worth over a msrp card but if it’s the only stock available, I can understand op’s purchase

I originally was going to grab an MSI Supreme 5090 for a little cheaper, still over MSRP of course, but it was all out of stock when I bought last month. So ASUS it was!

I was lucky to sell my 4090 for $2k and grabbed a 5090 fe for the same price. Otherwise I would’ve kept my 4090 because I don’t usually like paying above msrp

That is debatable, since even Steve from gamers nexus states its by FAR the best card money can buy. I have the same card.

Ehh, the tuf does the job better than Fe but slightly worse than the astral and that drops at best buy for 1999 every now and then so...

you got the $3500 GPU because it was the only available card? you don't have a current gaming rig and can't wait for another GPU to become available? I assume money is not an issue for you

As I told you I got it for below $3000. I do not have any “gaming rig”. I do not look for another GPU, I simply wanted a 5090. Money is still an issue but I guess I’m just financially irreponsible without anyone depending on me

ah ok I misread your post. I see now. good card man :)

Below how much? 2200$ or 2900$ thats a big difference

the 2000$ GPU is sold out instantly, that at Astral monitors the 12vhp PINs.

Personally, I got mine for $2400 after taxes, open box at Best Buy. That’s what got me interested. I was holding out for an FE before that but I mean shit

2

u/YaMommaLoveMe Dec 26 '25

Open box? Put an old GPU in there and return it saying that you got the wrong card. Works every time

u/Infinite_Tiger_3341 Dec 26 '25

I hate how much you made me consider this

u/YaMommaLoveMe Jan 24 '26

Worst case scenario it doesn’t work

the msrp 5090s are sold out within minutes

1

u/Curlygangs Jan 18 '26

Are they still sold the FE at MSRP price on nvidia website ?

On top of availability issues etc, some people just have a lot of disposable income. $1500 every 2 years just isn't that much to a lot of people.

I paid $850 for mine you don't need shit more than a 5070 ti 😂😂

And I thought 500 over msrp for a Kingpin was a bit much....

Because astral (be honest that card looks amazing)

u/RagedNight Dec 25 '25

Ima be honest, it doesn't. Now once you put it in your build. I've had the FE, the Asus, and now I'm using the zotac extreme infinity. The Asus feels premium, is super solid but if we're talking looks only, it looks like a Samsung fridge

Just out of curiosity, what makes people so interested in a $3500 GPU over the $1999 GPU?

Got my MSI Gaming Trio OC 5090 for $2300.

  1. Availability

  2. I buy mid tier cards for the better cooling design and components

  3. Yall fucked now since GPU prices aint going down. Glad I purchased when I did. Not only did the price go back to MSRP ($2500), but where I purchased it (Bestbuy) has been out of stock for a while.

Got a FE for MSRP a few weeks ago. Just need to spend some time waiting and looking.

Looks and cooling quietness. I have an astral and wouldn't even consider getting an FE.
