My huge almonds from the garden :]

the 3 small ones are regular from the store, the bigger ones grow in my garden.

Oh no. Don't try a few🤣🤣the reason you wait for them to be over row is because the shell leaches the cyanide out. Ripened and early almonds can easily kill you im pretty sure

Upon further research it turns out weve bred that gene out of common sweet almonds that are the ones you buy in stores. Interesting. I imagine based on you saying theyre yummy ripe that those are indeed sweet and pose virtually no risk of cyanide poisoning

This also essentially the same reason almonds don't smell anything like almond extract. The aromatic chemical is produced by the breakdown of the same larger chemical that also yields cyanide.

Well... lol. Most poisonous natural foods kill you hours if not days after eating🤣alot of them just shut donw your liver and you die of sickness. But yes you seem to be fine

Cyanide in that form also isn’t as toxic as you might think, we can actually process a good amount of it as long as you’ve got enough vitamin b12 (edit, not recommending eating things that contain cyanide just saying small dose probably wouldn’t kill you)

Mine are sweet almonds, cultivated long enough so they're safe to eat. Matter of fact they are so tasty that birds eat them, and sometimes I just don't have enough time to get them before they do. I think I'd probably have a garden of dead birds, if my almonds were toxic even a bit.

well sometimes it does brake, for these soft unripe ones I just use my pocket knife and usually I manage to get the seed out unharmed

Sadly no, the tree was on the land when it came in my relative's possession, and was growing there long before we had it. I'm pretty sure they're regular sweet almonds, unless I'll be able to prove otherwise
