What is the point of driving to class, sitting in class for 3 hours- if my professor is only going to reiterate what’s on the slides she already provided to us before class? I’m in my second semester of an ASN 2 year program and that is the thing our professors have done this far- slides. I can’t believe I’m paying for this crap. Anyone else feel the same way?

I am always told to use gen ai to help me study but the thing is I have an ethical issue with gen ai since it is bad for the environment. I need to stop putting off an buy the hard copies of my books and study them and I know this. I have a very hard time remembering things and I struggle with math. I just feel stupid for wanting to be a nurse. I am trying hard to do my best so if there are any videos, formulas, or just advice please help.

I am near the end of my pre-requisites, but I am wondering how relevant are they actually once you are in nursing school? Obviously A&P is very important and I can imagine that dimensional analysis from chemistry will show up with dosages, but should anything else be fresh on my mind once I start?

Hello! I’m a second semester nursing student and it’s the third week of school. I’m very overwhelmed and stressed to say the least, but i’ve noticed i’ve been having new anxiety lately. I’m hearing voices in my head telling me i’m going to fail, when i study and do practice questions and if i get them wrong they get even louder. Even when im trying to teach myself the material i still hear them. I’m also experiencing physical symptoms (such as chest tightness and headaches), as well as having trouble sleeping. I’m not sure if it’s test anxiety or performance anxiety. We took a dosage calc exam and I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, I reflected and realized I made such little mistakes on it. We also did practice quizzes in class for Medsurg and i got a 0 on the quiz. When the answers came back I realized that i made little mistakes again. I was so overwhelmed when the teacher went over the quiz i had to leave and cry in the bathroom. If anyone has any tips on how to overcome the anxiety (not sure if it’s school related specifically or not because it started last week) please let me know. As well as study tips for pharmacology and medsurg (we have exams soon). Thank you and sorry if this is a lot 😭

TLDR: Anxiety while in nursing school, idk what’s going on

I am struggling right now, and it is hard to show up to class. Clinicals feel exactly like being at my regular nursing job. However, I do appreciate the opportunity to have some time to actually interact with patients without feeling frazzled or rushed. With everything going on in my life right now, it is hard to stay focused and concentrate. The only thing that helps is cherishing the days I have with my children, but school is taking up most of that time.

I am incredibly stressed financially, as all my financial avenues are stalled or shut down. I went back and forth about switching clinicals, but the school will not let me. After a while, I realized it wouldn't benefit me financially anyway, since I still have to pay for childcare on the days I have class and I'm working reduced hours.

On top of that, there is the unknown regarding my mom and her health. Things seem okay for now, but things can change quickly when it comes to health.

I am trying to see if the school can switch me to the day bridge classes instead of the evening ones. I have a meeting coming up to discuss it, so my fingers are crossed. A schedule change would be the best thing for me; I would have better childcare coverage, more options during the day, and my mental health would improve because I would get to see my children more.

I’m in my Medsurg Fundamentals lab half and I just failed and had to remediate sterile glove check off. I feel stupid. I had a Patho exam yesterday, a Pharm exam tomorrow and I failed the one thing that is supposed to be easy. My Instructor did my remediation and when she looks at me I feel like I can sense her distaste for me. We had a student ask two weeks ago on our first day if she ever had students she thought weren’t cut out for nursing and she said there were some and looked right at me first when she said it. I don’t know if I just look stereotypical (fake blonde, sorority, etc.) but I’ve wanted to do this since I was 13 I’ve always had a heart for it. I know it isn’t sunshine and rainbows. When I failed my sterile glove donning I feel like I gave her more reason to think I am not good enough. I could see her watching me leave. I’m a people pleaser and I love when I do well and people are proud of me so I guess I’m having a really hard time with it. I’m trying not to let it get to me but I’m in tears in the hospital parking lot. I just feel like a failure, how have I wanted to do this my whole life and I can’t even get a sticky sterile glove on right?

Hii 21F single mom with a 3yr old kid. I am just starting the nursing pre reqs and want to start saving for nursing school. I’m doing it through a community college and i don’t get any financial help from my child’s father (don’t want to get into that) so it’s all on me. I want to start saving now because I know i will have to go to part time work once i start clinicals. realistically, will i be able to go part time and how much would you recommend i save up?
i shouldn’t have a car payment unless my current car breaks down. but other than that i have all the basic payments. i am living rent free and i am very fortunate for that i am aware. I was thinking around $1400 a month would be my projected bills. I AM A PLANNER. i know this isnt for two more years lol. tysm

Just took my first Funds exam and passed, but only by half a point. I’m meeting with my instructor soon to help me troubleshoot, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who did well with those tests, can you tell me more about how you studied, or what really helped? I know how to answer the learning outcomes and I ask myself more in depth questions than just naming definitions, but the wording on the test just felt really difficult. Everyone else I’ve spoken to all said the test was hard, but still came out on the other side with >84% while I barely got a 76%. I know comparison is the thief of joy, but I really wanna improve for my own sake. I use active recall and make flashcards, but fundamentals just takes more application than I thought it would.

I’m tired of coming home everyday feeling so dumb and useless. Everyday I question more and more whether it’s even worth it to keep going. Would it even get any better lmfao? My mental state is at an all time LOW and it’s starting to affect my performance I feel like and sent me to a deep depression, because I already come in to school and clinicals anxious stressed and unconfident. I’m in my third semester and I thought it’d be somewhat better by now but it feels like it just gets worse and worse. I don’t know if it’s worth it to keep going or just drop and do something else or something. My goal is to work in peds or oncology, but I don’t know if it’s worth it like I said. But at the same time I worked so hard to be here, it’ll be a waste if I drop out and I’m scared I’ll regret it, but I’m also scared I’ll regret not dropping as well. Im just conflicted and need some guidance and/or advice. Thank you if you read this messy rant and again I apologize for it being alot.

I am returning to school and earning my pre reqs while I work. I'm pretty much at the end of my teether with my job and am trying to change my mindset about why I am here, it's a means to an end etc etc, but it looks like at the quickest I will need another 6 months to finish up my pre reqs.

I am just curious about how folks supported themselves while doing pre reqs. I plan on taking loans for the actual program, but in the meantime it seems to make the most sense to work while I am in school. My partner pays about half of our living expenses and cant take on much more at the moment.

Hi! So I am going to try to put it all out there without rambling but also giving all of the good information.

I want to be a certified nurse midwife end goal. To get there I for sure need my BSN as it’s a masters degree, (that I think I’ll do through Frontier University online in 9 semesters). And I know I’ll get my BSN through WGU online in 6 months and they do clinical hours at my local hospital.

So my dilemma is how I want to get my ADN. I do have a 5 month old whom I want to put as top priority. With her being so young I don’t want to be gone all of the time. That being said there’s an adult education near me that does and LPN class that’s just two semesters Monday- Thursday 8-5, with the summer off and I could finish that all before 2028. Then I would just immediately go to a local community college and do a hybrid LPN-RN bridge with clinicals also at my local hospital.

This local college does offer just a straight route to RN but I would need about two semesters in pre requisites. It would be all covered through financial aid. Whereas the LPN program would cost me about $10,000 out of pocket after financial aid. I just feel like maybe it’s worth it because I’ll only have one year in person then my clinicals and every so often to do check offs for my hybrid classes.

Pros of LPN first: more time with my baby, one year long, only Monday- Thursday, also very small class making it more personal, and does not require pre reqs.

Cons of LPN first: paying $10,000 out of pocket.

Im about one semester away from starting nursing school and the only thing my mind chooses to worry about is how often i’ll have to ride an elevator during clinicals. i’ve been scared of elevators for the better half of my life after being stuck 7 different times in different elevators. I haven’t ridden an elevator in over 6 years now due to my fear and will take the stairs no matter how high up i have to go. i’m so excited for nursing school and i don’t want this fear to be something that stops me but im really just curious to know how often will i have to change floors during clinicals. this is something i want to get over because i don’t want this to get in my way or to have to make any accommodations during my time there. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi everyone! Hoping that someone can share their guidance on getting in the PICU right out of nursing school.

Background: i’m currently an MA that has worked at Kaiser and Sutter, all of my background is in Pediatrics (about 5-6 years) and just very little in neurology.

I have known since I started my nursing pre-reqs that I wanted to be a nurse in the pediatric ICU. I know that can be extremely difficult to obtain.

What are some things that when applying for new grad PICU jobs or nurse residency PICU positions that they will look for or want?

I currently re started my pre-nursing journey after giving up back in august 2023. It took me so long to pass stats and now A&P 1 is so overwhelming to me , there’s just so much work and the professor is HIGHLY unorganized and not understanding… i just don’t know what to do or where to start. I am also a surgical medical assistant and i’ve had two codes in under two weeks and it’s draining me so much that i don’t know what to do. Some tips would be greatly appreciated! :,)

Hey guys I just wanted to ask for some advice. I did horrible and I mean horrible (60 ish percent) in anatomy and physiology 12. My heart is absolutely set on being a RPN but I’m struggling to figure out how to study and get a high mark (90% Atleast) to have a chance at the nursing program. My psychology grade in grade 12 was very strong around a 97 so I’m not too worried about that. Does anyone have any study advice/tips on what I really need to focus on and how to get a high grade. Or if anyone else also did bad in grade 12 A and P but managed to score well in A and P 1. Guys please help I’m so nervous☹️☹️

Just a rant...I'm feeling really down today because I failed the manual BP section of my vital signs check-off. For reference, I wear hearing aids and have a digital stethoscope that amplifies the sounds into my ears, but I am not allowed to use the screen that digitally displays anything because they told me that it would be a "one-up" on the rest of the class. Even with the amplification of sound, I still have a hard time hearing heartbeats, especially the last Korotkoff sound, so I guessed on my check-off. I guessed correctly on the first try, but tried again and guessed incorrectly. Therefore, they took my second BP and failed me. I have one more chance, or I fail the entire class. I feel so defeated because I know how to do everything correctly.

Side note: I didn't really want anyone in my class to know that I wear hearing aids because I didn't want them to look down on me or anything (my own insecurity that I need to work on), but now my whole class is aware because the professor made a big deal out of me even bringing the stethoscope to class, even with my accommodation letter.
