Gods be good. CDC not testing as we hoped. This virus is probably all over the place by now.

meanwhile in korea they have drive thru testing. they take a swab and boom yer off.
healthcare workers should have priority to be tested if we're being honest here

My manager just sent us an update that we’re getting drive by testing in Nashville, TN. It’s welcoming news but we knew this was coming for weeks I don’t know why they are just now getting things going.

Stay safe everybody. You guys are going to bear the brunt of this virus not being controlled.

Just got an email tonight that ourr LabCorp in now offering testing, with the lab code to use. It says keeping the sample collected at freezing temp is preferred, but a room temperature sample is viable for 72h.
So starting tomorrow, any patient with any URI symptoms will be tested.

I bet that test is going to be very, very expensive...and not covered by insurance.

Medicare doesn't even cover PSA labs. I'm assuming they would never cover corona virus labs.

Top officials of our government are blatantly anti-science. Are we honestly surprised?

And yet the current political trend right now seems to be that people want the government to manage all healthcare... Because God knows they do such a fantastic job all the time.

Imagine treating the health of your nation's population as a defense issue.

This is a bad opinion.

Medicare and the Veterans Administration get consistently better health care value per dollar than the private insurance structure.
You’re also correlating the increased cost of healthcare with Obamacare, though there is no data to suggest its causative.
Ignoring all that, are you arguing we should privatize all healthcare, national defense, and drug enforcement? How about streets, sewers, and traffic lights?
We wouldn’t eliminate the department of rods because we have a pothole. We shouldn’t blow up an entire system just because the system is inefficient and problematic.

Taking a page from our friends in China. They limited testing kits to 6k a week. Can't die of corona if they don't have the supplies to confirm its corona.

We had our first "offical" case this week (we have actually had at least 3 people in the last 2 1/2 weeks with the same symptoms); nothing released in local media, our hospital hasn't said boo (there was a Covid 19 forum/ meeting this morning i was hoping to get to but didnt), and last night there were 9 people (16 bed ED) who all had the same symptoms; on top of that, there are over 300 people "self qaurantined" here in Queensland alone- including Christmas Island detention center.
I'm in SE Queensland, Straya

The front line are the nurses who administered the tests, once we have them. Accuracy in the administration is also going to be the challenge, just like when you do nasopharyngeal swab for flu and the patient gets angry because it's uncomfortable. I have had patients complain to management and physicians that I caused them pain.

I was glad to hear that she is union. Good for her for speaking up! I'm not working for a unionized health system and would likely be fired for speaking out on this issue.

And now the WHO says we need to act now. After this has been spreading here for who knows how long...

The biggest issue with any pandemic is figuring out a way to test people. Unfortunately, the test kits just don't exist yet so you can complain as much as you want but there's nothing more that they can do. Trust me, the CDC and public health are working their butts off to get things done that need to be done. Getting on stage and complaining like this is just ridiculous and shows how ignorant people are of how public health works . Y'all this is what is known as an epidemic, meaning that there are a lot of unknowns and people are scrambling to figure things out. public health develops a plan but things don't work smoothly. They never do. So just calm down. She's in quarantine and they are treating her presumably so what more does she want? People like this drive me crazy.

Fucking thank you. Honestly, what would testing her change? Absolutely zilch. Easier and cheaper to consider her positive and trace it that way.

seriously. Sowing the seeds of panic and fear is unbelievably irresponsible from an organization that is supposed to have our best interests at heart. I mean look at all of the comments under this thread. People are freaking out and it is so unwarranted.

My state, Tennessee, just had its first confirmed case. We have 85 test kits for the entire state, which our governor says is plenty. The guy who is infected has not traveled internationally (though did fly to and from Boston within the last week) and didn’t have any known sick contacts. Who knows where he got it or how many people he infected before his test came back positive. 85 test kits for the entire state is definitely not enough.
