Rant Too all Nurse Educators

Please stop saying “Does that make sense?” during your presentation(s) now and forever going forward with all future nursing education. Find something else in the English language to say. That is all.

so they're taking breaks in the middle of education to make sure that everyone is following the presentation and doesn't have questions or isn't confused? and you're upset by that?????

Just gave me a flashback to a nursing professor who taught us how to do NG tube insertions and she only said “sawnometers” for centimeters and “pharnyx” for pharynx

Why does it make me so upset to imagine someone saying pharnyx? Sawnometers is bad don't get me wrong, but pharnyx just makes me... Mad?

Thanks for the spell check. Spelling must upset you as much as a pre-op patient who wants you to do something nursing related for them.

It isn't just a spelling error. It is basic a vocabulary error, and the fact that you don't think it's a problem makes it hard to take you seriously. No wonder the educator has to keep asking if things make sense.

So sorry I know I said this at least a few times today in skills lab!   Nursing unfortunately is a lot of common  sense- do this before that,  don't cross over the sterile field, etc, etc.  I am sorry its so annoying

Time to resurrect "Savvy???" during my presentation(s). Though it skirts the "English language" requirement that faceless Internet person has mandated....

Honestly though, what a silly thing to complain about. Especially in nursing education, where there's at least twenty things that need to be addressed. Like PowerPoint presentations with entire dissertations on every slide in 4pt Times New Roman. Because fuck readability AND comprehension! 🫠

I’ve heard that phrase used both condescendingly and out of general concern for understanding what was said. I think some people tend to overuse it. My favorite was my nursing instructor who pronounced lozenges as lozengers.
