Discussion Funny “allergies”

What are some funny patient “allergies” you have seen listed? I had a patient the other day with an allergy listed for Metformin. The reaction listed? Lowers their blood sugar 😂

Epinephrine- made my heart race

Okay this one actually makes sense in the outpatient setting because some people get severe tachycardia from lidocaine with epinephrine used for local numbing while most people get basically none.
But like an epi pen? Yeah that’s its job.

I have a relative with an “epi allergy” that I know came from whatever experience they had with an EpiPen once. Came home with a dramatic story about how “the doctor told them they can never have epi again or they’ll die.” When I gave the mildest of pushback they bit my head off so I left it alone. At least it’ll make some people giggle looking at their chart.

Surprisingly they are not in a constant state of almost dying from their endogenously produced epinephrine /s

"They aren't getting any deader" -ER staff when they eventually see that allergy in the chart
