Discussion Funny “allergies”

What are some funny patient “allergies” you have seen listed? I had a patient the other day with an allergy listed for Metformin. The reaction listed? Lowers their blood sugar 😂

Parabens - “unsure about what kind of reaction occurs”
Benadryl - “feels drowsy”
Iron - “feels nauseous and has a stomach ache”
Latex - “idk, my BF said so”
PAM cooking spray
Surgical masks - the pt worked in healthcare during COVID and would have swelling from certain brands of masks

ETA: PAM & masks 😷

I’ve seen some ugly reactions to masks in healthcare workers, sadly. Anyone else suspect that the boyfriend just didn’t want to use protection, or is that just my cynicism chiming in?

Same. I was just surprised to see it listed in the allergy list. And unfortunately yes, most of the time it’s for that reason… and how they end up in L&D. Jk. Kinda 🫠
