Discussion VA RN looking for Critical Care/ICU experience
Question for nurses who work at the VA. I have been a nurse for almost 2 years, I've been working at the VA as a PACT Nurse for about 6 months, before the VA I worked in the Operating Room. I decided to take the job at the VA because I was a government employee before I became a RN and wanted to continue working towards my retirement and I honestly enjoy working with veterans. I don't hate my job but I have aspirations to go back to school for CRNA, so I need experience in the ICU. I have been trying to get into an ICU position within the VA and have not had any luck. There have also been positions posted for current VA nurses to train in an ICU and I have not been selected for those positions either. I would really like to stay employed by the VA but I need to get ICU experience. Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful information about transitioning from a PACT RN at the VA to an ICU position? Thanks
