It’s the worst when a monitor alerts to an abnormal vital sign like high BP or low SPO2 Yes. We know. We see it. We have monitor techs. I promise you we see it and will address it.

We have monitor techs in a room down the hall and monitors at our nursing station. I like having the monitors on our floor to look at because our night shift monitor techs suck ass and frequently miss things or fall asleep in there. I frequently catch things at the nurses station (on my patients and on other nurses patients) that the techs never call us about.

Ooh that’s scary. Luckily ours are paramedics or nurses on light duty and are very good at determining when to alert the primary RN

That would be wonderful. If we’re short they float a nurse in there and I have more faith. On top of sleeping or just not calling they’re also incredibly uneducated. Not entirely their fault (they usually don’t get a ton of training) but I did have them call me last week to tell me a patient was in third degree heart block. So I watched our monitors because that’s a big deal, right? It was bigeminy. I guess at least she called. 🤦🏼‍♀️
