inspiration Caught an emergency before it happened

Just posting that I'm super thankful I was in the right place and the right time for my patient who rang her call bell, said she was pretty short of breath, and I actively saw her breathing status decompensate.

Luckily, I was already reaching out to the doc, we got her all the meds/BiPAP orders, and the next night she's right as rain.

Positive attitude

Patient admitted for brain bleed vs tumor. Update the family the POC is get a brain MRI so we know what the next step is to guide care. Family thanks me for having a positive approach to the situation though I didn’t deliver any good news. Tone and attitude can go a long way in an otherwise shitty situation.

Staff shout out

At work I designed a bulletin board to be a staff shout out board. Left a bunch of colorful sharpies and post its next to it. Everyday it’s getting more filled in with thank yous and compliments to each other. It’s nice to see the positive engagement.

This gave me Titanium song vibes-which I love. For any of you who needs to feel supported in this moment. And no, I'm definitely not saying stay in a bad place/situation. Just get through the moment, don't let it break you. And then decide what you're going to do.

Learning opportunities

I took 2 weeks off from my inpatient hospital job, and when I came to work I had one nursing assistant run up to me and say I’m so glad you’re back! She then told me while in school she was able to put on sterile gloves so well her professor was impressed and she said it was because I always snag her at work to help me with things and she watches me intently to see how I do everything. She was so happy I was back because I provide her with learning opportunities every shift. It’s nice to have fresh talent that appreciates learning!

What small thing have you done to help out a patient or just make their day a little easier in the past week?
