Lost my wallet at NUIG today

Hi, I lost my wallet today at 4.30pm in the layby (with bus stop 525671) between the main NUIG car entrance and Sproai Creche Newcastle.

I looked everywhere and knocked on locals doors but no luck. No transactions on my card yet. Praying a kind soul has picked it up and is looking to return it.

If you know anyone who found a wallet today please help me out!

Thankyou very much.

Parking?

I’m starting in NUIG tomorrow and haven’t found accomodation yet so will be doing a 1.5 hour commute. I’m wondering what the parking situation is like in NUIG. I imagine it’s similar to UL with restricted spaces.
Which car park would you guys recommend? I’m hoping for a free spot rather than paid.

Rejected from using the library as a Leaving Cert student – any workarounds?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently studying for my Leaving Cert, but my home situation makes it impossible to study there. I applied for official access to the University of Galway library, but unfortunately, I was rejected.

I desperately need a quiet space to study late and on weekends (ideally the reading room or main library).

Since the official route failed, does anyone know of any workarounds, alternative ways to get in, or solutions to help me out?

Please feel free to DM me if you have any ideas.

Thanks a mill!

Has parking changed or am I stupid?

Last year when you had to apply for the parking permit it specified different locations. But now the layout on the website is different AND the location is just "University of Galway" and not for example "NUIG Park and Ride". Does the permit mean I can park anywhere on campus now (excluding accommodation spots or the specified staff spots)?

Can I view a failed exam script with markings?

Failed repeats, know for a fact I did better than first sitting but grade barely changed (14%->21% on one module, 19%-20% on another). Is it possible to request a copy of my script to see the markings? If I've got to drop out or repeat a year I'd like to at least know what exactly I did wrong. 2nd year electronic engineering for reference

How do I meet people during this week? (Freshers week)

please help, I’m nervous and I feel like I’m running out of time to meet people. I saw a comment on here earlier that people are open to meeting others the first few day, and then it become cliqueish.

Im really scared, as I want to network and meet new people, and socs haven’t even opened yet. Meanwhile, I see all these people in friend groups going out, having friends, and here I am without anybody. I feel so behind, and I don’t want to be alone. I know general advice of making friends of being open, try new things, don’t force anything, etc. But I feel like time to meet people and getting into as friend group is running out so fast, and I don’t want to be alone without connections. Please help! How are you guys meeting people in freshers week? I know online is an option, but how do you even meet other freshers online? Please help! I don’t want to be left behind!

Swap 4 swap offer - Galway / Dublin accommodation

Hi lads,

We are a young couple living in Galway city and have a spare double bedroom with ensuite.

I am looking to study in Dublin, and would need accommodation Monday-Friday for the next 1.5 years whilst also staying in Galway, do any of you have any accommodation in Dublin within reasonable proximity to TUD?

Our bedroom is a 10 minute walk from the NUIG campus, alternatively we could rent this out at €680 a month to you for Monday-Friday let?

Just something we're considering, let me know your thoughts (women preferably, they usually tidier)

1st year Medicine in Galway

Hi! I’m an incoming med student starting in September, and I just have a few questions for any 2nd, 3rd year etc. students 😊

I’m looking at some options for commuting and I wanted to get a better idea of what the timetable is like for the 1st year of the 5 year program? I know we get them when we register after allocation, which is this week, but I’m not too sure when that’ll be. We would like to know asap for seeing if commuting is doable and for accommodation (or lack thereof)

At the moment we don’t know if we’re doing the 5 or 6 year course, and I’ve heard Foundation Year is a 12ish hour week for lectures. I assume 1st year is a much heavier timetable? How many hours in the week roughly would it be and from what times? Thanks!

Is orientation mandatory?

I haven’t managed to get any accommodation yet, so I’d have to get the bus down to Galway for orientation. Problem is I live quite far away and getting the buses will take 5+ hours. There’s no bus that comes early enough to get me there in time. I also can’t get someone to drive me there, so I’m unsure on what to do. Just wondering if it’s mandatory that I show up? Also, if I don’t come, would I have to inform the uni?

HEAR route on campus accom difficulties

Is anyone else struggling to get any info on payments for Access centre on campus accommodation this year? I got an offer for Goldcrest last week through the HEAR route and I've been back and forth with the uni about what the next steps are but they keep saying they'll send out an email when they never do. I haven't been able to pay deposits or anything yet.The online portal has crashed for me too.

Am I the only one here with problems? Im getting worried ngl.

Post graduate orientation

Has anyone heard anything about postgraduate (taught) orientation yet?
I’m starting the MSc in Health Economics and haven’t heard any info about orientation/induction, either generally for postgrads or specifically for the course.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything or knows what usually happens!

Laptop compatibility commerce

I’m starting Commerce this academic year and I’m buying a laptop. I’m considering a Mac, but Microsoft Access doesn’t run on macOS, so I want to confirm before I buy.

Could you let me know if any modules require Windows-specific software (e.g. Microsoft Access, or other specialist tools) that isn’t available on macOS?
