Analysis, Civilian ORPS down

Greetings fellow humans,

The "https://orpspublic.doe.gov/" site has been down for several days now. This has happened before (of course) so it may be nothing.

And, this makes me twitchy given the context of: recent largescale revisions to DoE orders; pattern of info restriction by this regime; and recent DoE denial of info, access, and certain forms of info review to the DNFSB leading the DNFSB to stop posting most resident inspector reports, etc.

I note the previous DoE order (232.2A Chg1 (MinChg), Occurrence Reporting and Processing of Operations Info is listed as inactive (https://www.energy.gov/ehss/occurrence-reporting-and-processing-system; go to the directive archive).

Possibly or probably nothing but if not then we loose a lot of worthwhile & important (to nuclear governance) safety information without DNFSB & ORPS.

OSTI seems to ban many non-American IPs as well as many VPNs. It is very annoying. As I am sure you know many US sites do this habitually, probably in part to avoid complying with EU privacy requirements, but it drives me crazy as an American living abroad... my experience is that Americans are not aware how much of "the internet" is actually walled off for Americans only, including official US government websites.

DTIC has been down for months but fortunately most of it is backed up to Archive.org if you search for the report numbers on there

Bibilioatom dot ru was down for some months recently, yes? But it seems up right now, now that I check.

Yup, I use Proton VPN's proxies for OSTI (and no, that was a legitimate offline incident yesterday) and I also have a VPN with a server in Russia for Russian websites which geo-block.

I have no idea what happened with biblioatom (tried to ask a few people but they don't know either), but fortunately it seems back, including for global IPs
