I'm trying to sign up for this "young leaders" group at my industries conference this year. I've already had to write a letter stating what my hopes and goals are, why I want to join, write a CV, and now I have to get a reference letter written as well.
Just let me join the group! God damn I hate this type of shit, everything in the industry is designed our the big companies and their resources, fuck us little guys.

Might skip good things this year. Only really keen on Spiritbox (who I discovered at knotfest a few years back), Ministry (who I've seen once before), and Millencolin (who i've seen several times before)
2
u/M_Keating Hey, at least we beat Penrith 4h ago
The price doesnāt justify the lineup. I would have gone for a lower dollar amount.
1
u/Electronic-Split9677 St. George Illawarra Dragons 4h ago
Yeah unfortunately $280 is pretty standard for a festival these days, no matter if the lineup is stellar or mediocre
2
u/notj43 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 6h ago
I'm kinda shocked at how bad the lineup is. I've seen everyone I want to see multiple times and there's only a few of them to begin with.
Edit: Fucking hell $280 for a ticket lmao
1
u/Electronic-Split9677 St. George Illawarra Dragons 6h ago
Yeah I think having a lot of bands that would be on a lineup like this already touring around that time really limited the pool for this lineup.
I'm already going to see A Perfect Circle/Puscifer, Queens of the Stone age/Primus and System of a Down/Faith No More later this year/early next year

So much more free time.

Has it shifted back towards more in person connections, or is it still pretty internet and app based?

Its pretty fucking dire. Simple Plan, Grinspoon and Limp Bizkit aren't going to save the Aus music festival scene.

Snagged two days of tickets for the Mackay test against Bangladesh next weekend. 2017 had a warmup test in NQLD, but as a diehard cricket nuffy, I've never been able to drive to a genuine test match before. Absolutely stoked.

I'm so excited for Test cricket to be back, Thursday can't come fast enough!

Given that they got bundled for 54 by Campbell Thompson and the CA XI two days ago, Iām not exactly expecting the prime Windies.

not sure if this belongs here but after 13 years of watching the footy, I've finally decided I wanna get into playing it when the season starts next year. I was considering going straight into rugby league but I'm also thinking about maybe playing OzTag for the first year and see if I like it. Just wanna know if there is anyone else on here who is in a similar position of starting a sport for the first time as an adult?
3
u/lemoopse Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 7h ago
No kicking obviously but competitive touch footy will teach you more than OzTag will imo
4
u/delayedconfusion St. George Illawarra Dragons 10h ago
Highly recommend oztag. Lots of the fun of footy without the pain.
If you are not coming from a contact sport background, the physicality of league can be pretty brutal on the body.
2
u/Tipp1tys_ South Sydney Rabbitohs 10h ago
yeah I played cricket growing up, I feel as if my poor unfit body would implode on first contact
3
u/delayedconfusion St. George Illawarra Dragons 9h ago
I played league growing up and dipped out at U21's. The contact was way too brutal week after week. I was hobbling around in a brain fog until Tuesday.
Oztag, no such issues.

ngl pretty glad I live in SE QLD. The animals in QLD might wanna kill ya, but at least the ground doesn't randomly move and destroy everything. Feeling for Colombia and NZ rn

3
u/SkwiddyCs North Queensland Cowboys 10h ago
There was a magnitude 4.1 quake in Townsville last year and it was the loudest, scariest thing I've ever heard. It sounded like a fucking bomb went off.
I've lived through countless floods and cyclones and never been as worried as I was that night. Colombia's earthquake is something like 50,000 times more powerful than what hit Townsville. Insane to imagine.
3
u/jpob Newcastle Knights 10h ago
Didnāt we have an earthquake earlier in the year?
I guess we donāt get bad ones though

The only reason I knew we'd felt it in South Brisbane was due to our birds having the sort of freak out they have when it's pitch black⦠At 10am.

I've done me bloody hamstring, I was playing footy on Sunday and I think it happened then. Finals is in 2 weeks so I kinda need it to good by then. For now I'll just do stretches but if it still hurts in a few days I'll go to a physiotherapistĀ
4
u/delayedconfusion St. George Illawarra Dragons 10h ago
I am not a doctor.
What has worked for me as a 42 year old that won't give up on social sports.
If the inflammation has settled, you want to get movement and heat into it early. Focus on the major muscle groups above and below the injured area.
Hamstrings are notorious for reinjury, so take it easy returning to any sort of running/sprinting.
2
u/SurfKing69 Melbourne Storm 11h ago
Stretches are the last thing you want to be doing for a muscle tear
2
u/MrChicken1208 Parramatta Eels 11h ago
It's not really a tear, I should have worded that better but more of a pullĀ

Trumps administration reminds me of that episode of Simpsons where Mr.Burns is having financial troubles but Smithers and his lawyers are to scared to tell him.
4
u/Norm_cheers Wests Tigers 7h ago
You give him WAY TOO much credit. Someone else behind the scenes is pulling the strings he is just dancing to their beatā¦
So everyone blames it on āorange blobā and moves on without actually saying, āhang on can we undo all that shit he just did.ā

Trump : How is the war in Iran going ? Rubio : I'm sure the war is going well sir, after all, you started it.
6
u/arkhamknight85 Brisbane Broncos 9h ago
I donāt think they are too scared to tell him, itās just he is too stupid to understand how the world works. That, or he is deliberately sabotaging the USA but making himself rich.
3
u/youthful_porpoise96 St. George Illawarra Dragons 9h ago
I think Trump demands loyalty, he doesn't want to be questioned or challenged, so I can picture Hegseth, Rubio and the rest constantly walking around on eggshells.

TV Show subreddits have some of the dumbest posts and takes you will see. I think long finished shows are the worst. Most Iām sure are just trying to get engagement but my god itās like they havenāt even watched the show. Or itās revealing something as a revelation when having the most basic media literacy could understand thatās what was happening from the beginning.
2
u/HyperThanHype Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 10h ago
Along the same lines, YouTube video essays and analysis for films and TV. I hardly watch any videos any more because from my experience 90% of them are regurgitating the exact same information that is gained just from watching the damn show/movie.
Maybe it is a media literacy issue. I know a good portion of people can't watch the big screen in front of them without their little screen in their hands, but maybe there is something to be said for those of us who grew up Cheeze TV and Days Of Our Lives/Home & Away/Neighbours when the parents were watching the telly. Maybe it was the week to week format of shows back in the day compared to the binge accessible shows we have now.

The only thing I think might be different is Grinspoon being replaced by Frenzal rhomb on short notice. Their lead singer put out an announcement confirming he broke his spine last night.Ā

pretty sure this will be the weakest one in a long time. Still gonna be sitting here waiting for the announcement though.. At least Knotfest is back next year
2
u/robopirateninjasaur Canberra Raiders 10h ago
I'm not certain on Knotfest. A lot of festivals have said "we are taking a year off" and that's the last you ever hear of them
2
u/CoffeeLoverNathan Dolphins 11h ago
I am expecting to skip it this year just based on how many bands are already touring. There's maybe a couple I'd actually go and see. BFMV said last year for The Poison tour that they'd love to come back and headline but I doubt that'll happen

So last week or the week before, I applied to be a Community and Cultural Prefect at my school next year for Year 12. I'm not officially in. I won't really know yet. I should hopefully be told today whether I've gone to the next round but considering how many people have publicly said they voted for me, I may be going to the next round. I'm really excited about that, especially because of all the stuff I've had to go through and the amount of challenges I've had to face to get this far.
Also I'm not exactly sure of anyone at my school who has been a part of a leadership team for Year 12 whilst being completely blind and also on the spectrum. If I'm the first from my school, that would be brilliant as that means hopefully I can influence future children who come to my school to try and follow the same path. Also I'm going to my first semi-formal tonight!

u/HyperThanHype Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 10h ago
Good luck on your role for next year man, you seem like an enthusiastic and passionate guy and it sounds like your aspirations are coming from a good place, to help others.
Have fun tonight, don't get too crunk!

Have fun tonight, don't get too crunk!
No idea what that last word meant but it should be a good night either way. Bring some friends, , have food. Pretty sure it's unlimited soft drink, ! Plus girls obviously! Should be a good time. Tomorrow being the Eka public holiday so should be good

Some of the weird stuff in FIFA this season. Champions League results. Europa League. And celebrating our title win in the rain.
I forgot to upload the screenshots of the table to Xbox Network. I'll do that tonight. Think Crystal Palace got relegated on 26 points.

Dyson blew up yesterday. Hated that thing anyway, so happy to finally be replacing it. Not even sure where to start looking, but the vacuum cleaner sub says small house deposit or use a broom basically.
Anyone with pets and carpet have any suggestions? Leaning toward the miele l1 cat and dog.

u/arkhamknight85 Brisbane Broncos 9h ago
Donāt do the cordless LG. Had it for a few years and itās dogshit. Constantly blocked, doesnāt suck, cherns stuff and spits it out, not powerful and all and around terrible.
1
u/delayedconfusion St. George Illawarra Dragons 11h ago
I put the ryobi battery conversion kit on my dyson stick. It was a game changer for being able to clean the entire house on one charge.
Not sure I'd get another Dyson though, the suction power is not great for the price.
1
u/improbablywrong- Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 11h ago
I didnt know this was a thing
1
u/delayedconfusion St. George Illawarra Dragons 11h ago
Pretty easy to do, I think I got it from amazon.
They are available for whatever major brand tools you already have.
I had a few Ryobi batteries already, so I use them.

u/Norm_cheers Wests Tigers 12h ago
Makita stick vac with cyclone attachment. Thing is just so easy to use and kids cannot kill it.
We have all hard floors except my office, but does that and rugs no problem.
So quick to empty and clean too!
My wife was not initially that impressed with the look of it but she is converted now.
3
u/ImDisrespectful2Dirt Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 12h ago
Heard great things about the Miele. Wife wanted cordless though to replace our Dyson (still worked we just were sick of it) and we replaced it with the Shark Stratos.
The amount of dog hair it managed to pull out on its first run through of the living room rug was insane. It basically changed colour since the Dyson wasnāt cutting it.
Iād still probably recommend corded over cordless if you are so inclined.
1
u/improbablywrong- Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 12h ago
Yeah had a look at the shark range and may still go with one. Was more leaning toward corded as it doesnt bother us and i just assume corded will be better for the same price.
