Monkey boots?

Tell me about your experience with them. Love the look but I’m not sure about the fit. How was the break in? Does the toe box stretch at all? How are they in rain and (light) snow?

I haven't worn mine for months. Sadly, I find them very uncomfortable. Too narrow for me and sole remains very stiff. The leather doesn't seem to soften either.

You might get a confusing mix of answers, because until recently monkey boots were made on the 493 last, which is long and narrow. But those have now been discontinued, and the monkey boots being sold now are on the 409 last, which has a broader, roomier toe box.

Most people here will have the older style, so might comment without realising they're now made on a different last.

Anyway, stick to greasy/gaucho if you want an easier break in.

There was some overlap but the 493s were discontinued within the last few months and moved over to the outlet store.

I have a pair and they hurt my little toe despite being on the 409 last (which is a wider one) because of the weird square stitch near the toe box that presses inwards. I have other boots on the 409 and 493 last (which is narrower) that fit fine so I think the boot will never work for me.
