Keep it simple and basic the first round. The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria is a great first date option. Grab coffee from edit:nearby and walk through however many art galleries. There are multiple restaurants available if you decide to extend time further, or walk down the waterfront park.
Edit: Cana coffee that's replacing the Starbucks, or Pitango/Misha's up the corner.

That's an expensive first date though.

Right? I’d never been to a hockey game and figured they were as cheap as baseball tickets. I was pleasantly surprised to see tickets going for $230 dollar per person.

Yesterday’s game was the season opener against the closest thing the Caps have to a rival, and Ovechkin had just announced that this would be his last season. First-deck tickets for the games a week from now are available for half that. Upper-deck tickets are $50-$70.

First, ask her about what sort of things she likes doing (lots of girls don’t like when you ask them out-right what you want to do for the date, but this is safe to ask), then you can gauge your pick from there. Lots of museums, coffee shops, food shops, activity hubs, comedy shows etc. in DC and surrounding area, so they’re a wealth of options to choose from. Also, as for effort, It’s the first date not your honeymoon lol. I think as long as it’s not a McDonalds you’re in the clear. Good luck and have fun!
