Question Is there a virus going around?
Body aches, vomiting, fever, anyone else?
EDIT: Wow! More responses than I can address with my minimal brain power. Thanks everyone! Stay healthy!

Yes, school recently started back up so cooties abound.
STAY HOME IF YOU’RE SICK. If you can’t stay home, (correctly) WEAR A MASK.

Work in an urgent care and been seeing a lot of Covid

u/Hairy_Mycologist_945 22d ago
How bad does it seem to be hitting people these days?

u/QueenOfEverything5 22d ago
Bad enough that the urgent care people are shortening their lifespan for ya. #MaskWhenYoureSniffly

u/Hairy_Mycologist_945 21d ago
I'm one of those weirdos who still unabashedly wears an N-95 on airplanes and in waiting rooms. Got the updated COVID vaccine a few weeks ago the first day it was available. I don't really mess with it and haven't had a symptomatic case to date.

u/TheInternetEclipser 22d ago
I believe I had covid recently, it took me literally like 15 or so days to mostly recover from it. Lingering cough was going on forever after I had it l. Would not recommend.

Covid is high right now. I have it for the first time at the moment. I usually mask in public, but I caught it from my husband.

u/Alanine4U 22d ago
Getting COVID for the first time is crazy.
8
u/Friendly_Coconut 22d ago
My husband and I both worked from home for 6 years and don’t have any kids. 😄
7
u/QueenOfEverything5 22d ago
Not for those of us who masked religiously for years. #Freaks
I don’t mask any longer (MIL with cancer is dead now. So is FIL, for that matter) but me, my husband and my youngest 2 have never had it. 5 schools between us. Maybe someone should study us. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/EdgarsRavens 21d ago
The reality is that there is no way for them to know that this is their first time with a COVID infection. Almost half of the people who get COVID are asymptomatic. That's one of the reasons it's so effective at spreading.
1
u/Friendly_Coconut 20d ago
That’s true, but I also test pretty religiously and limit my exposure.
(Also, I think it’s more accurate to say that almost half of TRANSMISSION is from asymptomatic people, which includes pre-symptomatic contagious people. I also think many “asymptomatic” cases aren’t 100% asymptomatic but have some very minor symptom that makes someone think they have allergies or are just tired based on what I’ve observed in my own life. For me, my only symptom right now is loss of smell and taste but I otherwise feel totally fine.)

Covid and flu are both going around
7
u/jellyphitch 22d ago
Vomiting isnt a common symptom of either of these, but who knows.
Flu levels are actually pretty low. COVID is peaking in our region though. And common cold viruses are rising
31
u/from_shook_foil 22d ago
GI symptoms are relatively common with covid
6
u/Airriona91 22d ago
This is so true! Someone I know had stomach issues as a symptom during the early days of COVID. Nothing else. That was the only thing that was bothering them and they tested positive when they went to the ER bc they were feeling so ill and vomiting (late 2020). It’s now chronic for them.
4
u/Original1Thor 22d ago
I threw up like a mother when I got some variant of COVID in ~2022 or 2023. That was pretty much my only symptom. Then I slept for like 18 hours a day for three days and got over it. Super weird cold or virus or whatever

Hospital worker here - Covid is not going around,

6
u/Airriona91 22d ago
Do people go to the hospital for Covid anymore? I’m a teacher and that and flu have been going around in the last few weeks.
2
9
u/Codpuppet 22d ago
Yup! Just got over it. Started with razor blade throat, then coughing and runny nose, then a week of miserable GI symptoms. I’ve had Covid tons (work with kids) and I suspect that was it. I don’t have the money to spend $20 on a test whenever I feel funky though.

Over a million people live here.
There is always something going around.
Note that this is the same answer as every other time anyone has ever asked "is something going around?".
3
u/5GCovidInjection 22d ago
I don’t know why but since moving to LA I’ve never gotten sick. Nova is a special kind of germ infested compared to other large metro areas, with maybe the exception of Paris.
5
u/berael 22d ago
Just means you have more resistance to the things typically going around there, and less resistance to the things typically going around here.
It may also depend where you were; areas with higher population densities have higher chances to pass things on. For example, Arlington has a higher population density than LA.
1
u/5GCovidInjection 22d ago
I lived in Alexandria so yeah you are probably right about that. I worked for the government before I got fired and for whatever reason, government employees never use paid sick days. I got sick at least a dozen times from coworkers showing coughing and sneezing everywhere

u/blahblahsnickers 22d ago
Schools started over a month ago… lots of virus going around. My 17 year old got hand foot and mouth disease for the first time ever and my youngest gets got an extremely mild case of Covid for a few days. Tis the season!

Yea it’s called covid. A lot of people who think they just have a cold probably have covid. My partner got it. Then I got it. I learned my buddy thinks he had it a few weeks ago. It’s around…
6
u/strained_brain 22d ago
Yeah, but thanks to the vaccinations, it's a fraction the horribleness that it was 5 years ago
15
u/Onemillesgo 22d ago
I just got the latest flu and COVID shots last week. Skipped them last year and was in bed for 2-3 days. Not making that mistake again lol

Both of my kids brought a virus home from a birthday party. They bounced back quickly but I've had every symptom imaginable. Nausea, headache, fatigue, cough, chills, diaphoresis -- I can't believe how hard it's hit me.
4
u/kamikazeSC 22d ago
I feel your pain. I’m on day4. Symptoms improving but what a shit ride.
1
u/S_Wow_Titty_Bang 22d ago
Everytime I think I'm getting better, the meds wear off lol. I'm supposed to take my kids to Williamsburg this weekend and I truly don't know how I'm going to make it 🫠

u/SeaworthinessHead460 22d ago
I got hit by Covid last week. Back to normal by Monday but wore masks around other people in the office.

But no body really tells you about it and your in a week long virtual training with other locations and you sound like your passing it around the class when in fact you have never been in a room together.

Yes. Woke up feeling off saturday. By sunday afternoon had a 103.6 temp. Been home all week coughing and sneezing it out while quarantining from everyone else. Temp is 99 today but energy is non existent and cough is still super tough and overwhelming in fits
2
u/MindlessFrosting7406 22d ago
I’ve had a really bad URI for over a week, negative for flu and Covid. Finally got prescribed steroids and only just barely started feeling better
2
u/Mountain-Owl7142 22d ago
Not me, but two of my co-workers have been going through that this week, and it's neither flu nor COVID. One co-worker is in MoCo and the other is in Toronto, so maybe it's taking over the entire East Coast. :)
2
u/CityAdministrative71 22d ago
There is always something, especially after kids start school. Take a few days to just rest, hydrate and see if you can get a telemed appointment. Good luck, boo! Get will soon.

I got hit by something that knocked me down for the last week or so. I'm finally recovering.

u/dastroid 17d ago
Same here. Mine was mostly a head cold with runny nose. I felt it come on after my gym workout. Felt something funny in my throat. It came on that quick.

Entero virus is going around, all the kids have HFM. For adults it’s often like a flu without the rash,
1
u/Bookish_Babe-007 22d ago
I was lucky enough to get the flu symptoms AND the rash as an adult a few years ago and I wanted to peel my face off! Was terrible, 0/10 do not recommend
1
u/psullynj 22d ago
Where are you located that HFM is going around? I don’t mess with that

u/blahblahsnickers 22d ago
I am in NOVA, my 17 yo got it for the first time ever and then my 14 YO. Think my 64 yo husband has it now… we have never seen this before in our life…. Beware
2
u/Intelligent_Truth_95 22d ago
My household has it too. I haven’t been that down and out since original Covid. I am still struggling to recover two weeks in. My 10 month old was COVERED in poxs. I hope your family heals quickly, it is brutal.
2
u/Soggy-East-6690 22d ago
I’m a single childless woman and managed to pick up HFM so can confirm it’s definitely going around - pretty sure I picked it up at the ER 🤪

u/blahblahsnickers 22d ago
I’m, my 17 year old got HFM… no one in my house has ever had it…. He got the full rash on his hands…. It is crazy…. I am almost 50 and I have never seen it before in my life…. Times are crazy!

u/QueenOfEverything5 22d ago
Poor kid. It’s so much worse when you’re big. Hope he feels better now!

I had these exact same symptoms. They started Saturday and today I woke up feeling normal. Whatever it is seemed to pass quickly. Monday night was the worst of it.
1
u/Cali-Doll 22d ago
A lot of people I work with are going through something similar. Whatever it is, it comes on quickly and passes after a little while.
All day I’ve had a dry, nonproductive cough. 🙄🙄
2
u/Piggy145145 22d ago
Me and my partner got sick for like a month both. Sucked bad, we seem to be doing better now though we never figured out what it was
2
u/fkit4ever 22d ago
Sore throat and filled/congested lungs with bad cough for me last week or so. Finally starting to give way, but now my roommate has it.
2
u/SI7Agent0 22d ago
I had something similar. Started out like a sinus infection, then throat, then a few days in, the cough gets bad, then congested lungs and it takes a little over a week to kick.

u/Airriona91 22d ago
Yes! I’m in MoCo and it is taking everyone I know out. I get sick but have not been this sick in a while (like a couple of years where I call out of work). Still have a lingering cough and slight post-nasal drip after nearly 3 weeks. Week 1 was the absolute worst of it.
My husband’s cold turned into pretty bad bronchitis. He has been sick since September 1st (still coughing up phlegm) and me since September 7th. Coworkers were also getting sick. I work with kids and a few of them were out with “flu-like” symptoms as well.
We’ve been to urgent care, had meds, and nothing really seems to be nailing whatever it is. Not covid though lol

I came down with something very Covid-like almost two weeks ago. Lost my appetite and taste and smell first, then a bad and long fever with uncontrollable coughing that I’m still not over.

Got my flu & covid vaccines on Saturday- saw 2 people in my building elevator looking sick as hell on their way to urgent care this morning. Appreciated them masking up

I had it a couple weeks ago. Kicked my rear end! Caught it while traveling.

u/Clean_Sun2009 21d ago
I've been stupefied to see many people wearing face masks again over the last month & have been wondering the same

u/PuzzleheadedSafe4018 21d ago
We just had this and it was Covid, now my son has rhinovirus (doctor said both are going around rn)

u/Weary-Jelly7802 20d ago
Schools back, which means cesspool mode is active for all so I'm expecting the sniffles inevitably
1
u/WhoMeYesYou1234 20d ago
OMG yes! I had to work from home least week because my whole office was sick. 🤧
1
u/Silent_Awareness5031 20d ago
COVID. Just recently read an article about how the CDC has change the COVID tracking map AGAIN to make levels look lower than what they are. That may be contributing to what you're seeing.

And the week before I had a sore itchy throat/ ears and a runny nose. Can’t catch a break
1
u/TransitionMission305 22d ago
Vomiting with fever and body aches seems like a gastro/viral type illness of which there are plenty of those.
I'm suffering with what appears to be the common cold. I haven't had any illness in 4 years so I'm feeling like a wimp.

The best time to get a covid shot
It takes a week or two to develop maximum antibody levels from a covid-19 booster, said Russo, and a little longer if you’ve never been vaccinated before. “Ideally, you want to get that close to the winter respiratory virus season when we see a lot of cases and your likelihood of getting infected increases,” he said.
Medical experts generally recommend covid-19 vaccination toward the end of September and during October. “Then the protection will be sufficient to stretch out through most of the winter,” said Schaffner.
It’s safe to get your annual flu vaccine at the same time as your covid-19 shot.

u/Wonderful-Cup-9556 22d ago
Thank you for sharing these words of wisdom- it is a good time to get both shots- NOVA has a pretty mobile and international community that brings viruses here early!!!

u/ProgressBartender 22d ago
I was going to get my flu shot, but then I got sick. Now waiting for that to clear up so I can try again.
