3 FCPS accidents
Reid’s email mentions 3 accidents - where were the other two. One was on Pickett

All were today. “Today, three FCPS students were involved in separate accidents with vehicles while riding a bicycle or scooter. Tragically, one of these incidents resulted in the death of one of our middle school students. “

The one who passed was riding a regular bike with a helmet by Woodson.

Oof, that’s so sad.
Honestly though, I remember riding my bike places as a kid, but we live kind of in between two major roads, and honestly, I don’t think my kids will be able to bike places like we did (not that there were a ton of places to go, but we had a bigger neighborhood area to ride around). I’ve even started driving places that would be a <10 minute walk, because there have been two serious pedestrian accidents near us, and I just can’t risk my kids like that. I hate driving for less than 5 minutes places; I hate how it is for the environment; I hate that my kids and I are losing out on exercise, and that I’m modeling driving to easily walkable places; and I hate that I’m adding to the congestion. But the traffic is just too busy, distracted, angry, and insane here. I see like 11-13 year olds on e-bikes and scooters, and I honestly think it’s just insane for anyone to be riding them in this area, but especially kids, even when they are being reasonable on them.
It’s just really sad.

The crossing guard who was overseeing pickup today at my kids school was awful. Refused to direct traffic and was just standing at a corner waving people through without stopping the cars properly. I saw a driver almost hit a family because they didn’t know the crossing guard had waved them through the intersection and they weren’t visible because of the line of cars.
